“Stay this hotel in Daegu if you can't speak korean.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

Me & my wife stayed in this hotel for 3 nights.
Moving around in Korea without knowing the language is tough.
It is even tougher in Daegu, compare to Seoul.

Luckily the hotel staff are well-versed in English.
They have also been very helpful to provide us with directions and recommendations in and around Daegu.

Location wise is fantastic for this hotel.
Opposite the main road is the main shopping district in Daegu, Dongseongno Street.
The equivalent to Myeondong in Seoul in my opinion.
Other than shopping, you will no problem looking for eateries, cafe and pub around this area.

If you like hiking, you can just go to the bus stop opposite the hotel and take the red Rapid Bus No.1. This bus can bring you to Palgongsan in about 50min.

If you like to even venture further, you can go to the Dong Daegu Express Bus Terminal and take Bus 46 to Andong. It takes around 1hr & 20min.
Please do not miss out on the Hahoe Village, which Queen Elizabeth visited when she visited Korea in 1999.

I will be backed again and will definitely stay in this hotel next time I visit Daegu.

Dear Kenneth L,

We would like to thank you, you and your wife, for choosing Novotel Ambassador Daegu and for taking the time to write such a positive (and well documented) review about our hotel and city.

As you mentioned in your message, there are many things to do in Daegu but we have to admit that English communication can be slightly more challenging than in Seoul.

As international hotelier, one of our main objective is to make our feel welcomed and give them all the information they would need to enjoy their stay to the fullest either they are looking for food, shopping or sightseeing and even if they do not speak Korean.

On that aspect, reading your comment was a real pleasure and you can be sure it will be shared to our staff to strive them to continue in this way.

One more time, thank you for your warm comment and your loyalty toward our hotel. It will be an honor to welcome you again in our facilities.

Best regards,

Mr Steve CHOI, General Manager of Novotel Ambassador Daegu

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in last week. Rooms are pretty nicely setup but not much choices for food, especially for lunch. Though staff was very friendly, they really failed when it comes to telling the real truth. During or stay, the air conditioning was not working at all. Even though the temperature was around 17-24 Deg, it was still very stuffy in the room with the small window sill opened. When I asked about this to the staff, all I got was this that there was a change of season and they are trying to get the system up. After 2 nights, It became unbearable that I had to sleep on the couch by the window with the windows (small) wide opened. I asked to speak to the Manager about the problem but no one really bothered to call me back. I was only told by (at least) an honest staff upon check out that the air conditioning was under repair.... So all this while the Air conditioning was down, but the hotel never informed the guest.....

Dear Antz69,

First of all, we would like to apology for the time we took to reply to your review.

We wanted to investigate on that case to know exactly what happened and why you didn't receive answers to your questions when you asked them.

Also, as sleeping quality of our guests is our top priority, we feel really sorry to read we fell bellow your expectations and that your stay with us was not as comfortable as it should have been.

Our AC System is a centralized system which "switches On" automatically when outside temperature goes over 23 degrees Celsius. We think that the staff(s) who told you it was broken made a confusion.

Once again, we apology for all the inconveniences you faced during your stay and we assure you that we will improve our communication and staff's training to avoid the same confusion in the future.

Best regards,

Simon KIM, Novotel Ambassador Daegu Executive Assistant Manager

I stay at the Novotel whenever I stay overnight in Daegu, and it is a very solid hotel - extremely convenient in its downtown location and just a 4,000 won taxi ride to the KTX station. It is great to just step outside and have lots of shopping and restaurants to choose from. The entrance to the underground shopping mall is right outside the front doors (down the stairs), and you can browse all the way to the CGV or Lotte Young Plaza. There is also a Family Mart right next door or a 7-11 in the underground mall for last-minute necessities or snacks. There is a fun pedestrian-only street about 10 minutes away by foot.

The rooms are also spacious, comfortable, and stylishly appointed, with birds-eye views of Daegu. Rates are very affordable for this class of hotel. There is no pool, but there is a gym and Korean-style spa. Breakfast is fine, but maybe a little expensive unless if not included in your room rate.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for both business travelers and tourists.

My organization has also done many conferences here, with great results.

The elevators can be slow, and the room can be a bit dark at night if you like bright lights, and this hotel probably won't "wow" you, but you won't go wrong.

Very nice location, with a very nice view to the whole daegu city. Rooms were nice&comfortable and their amenity also very delightful. The staff was friendly&efficient and spoke a decent level of english. Also I loved experience of dinning at The Square, dishes are good and even for the wine. In this hotel everything is impeccably prepared and graciously served. So Just go!

Novotel Daegu is located in the downtown. There are so many shops and restaurants nearby. Hotel facilities, cleanliness and service were fine. There were two critical problems during my stay. One was the noise from the main road. I can frequently hear car horns all night long. The other was the temperature of the room. They said that the air-conditioner is not working in the spring. So the room was really hot, especially in the afternoon. The thermometer in the room pointed 29℃(84.2℉). It was also hot during the sleep. They recommended to open the windows, so I did it. But the air was not circulating and the noise became more louder.

You might think I'm crazy. "Gyeongju?! But this is Daegu!" I never planned to visit Daegu until I had to leave my unpleasant Gyeongju accommodation partway through - and the Novotel showed up as the nearest available hotel. The city's only 20 minutes from Gyeongju on the KTX (about $8)m - so you can go back for the day easily - but Daegu more than holds up itself as an interesting and enjoyable destination.

The hotel is in a sensational location in the shopping district. The room I had was clean, spacious and comfortable, with a wonderful view over the city. Breakfast had a huge variety of options. Staff were friendly and a pleasure to deal with. If I came back to Daegu I'd definitely stay here again.

I have now stayed twice at the Novotel City Center and enjoyed both times. The rooms are spacious and clean. There are many selections at the breakfast buffet for both western and eastern pallettes. They also have very good massage services on the 7th floor. The location is also very convenient to the train station and the airport.

The only complaint I have is that they have centrally controlled heating/ac and they like it on the warm side. Each night regardless of the temperature outside it has been considently in the low 80s in the room....much higher than my norm.
