This hotel probably has the best view of the beach in Busan. The Westin Chosun Busan is also very popular among the locals. I was at a customer meeting in town, and we had already booked the Lotte Hotel in Busan, when she suggested we book here for the view. She was correct!
I have to point out that this has been my second trip to Korea, and this hotel was my third hotel experience. So far it's been stellar. Korea rocks when it comes to cleanliness and efficiency of service. One can really get spoiled here from hotels.
The Westin Chosun Busan is no different. It actually felt more like a "W" than a Westin, because the lobby cafe was ultra chic, and deliciously beautiful looking out over the ocean, and the long row of delicate fish tanks. The night I was there, they had live music in the lobby bar.
I had their dessert buffet for high tea, and it wasn't very good, which is unusual for Korean standards. There is an on-site bakery that seems to do a much better job for breads. I suggest going there in the morning for a quick breakfast. They can also make espresso, but you won't be able to sit by the ocean view. There's still seating for this bakery directly outside.
I didn't eat room service or try any of the restaurants. Mainly because I try to avoid eating at the hotel when in Korea. I have found hotel food extremely expensive. A tip for coffee lovers. If you love coffee, especially espressos, Korean lattes are especially yummie. I am not a huge Starbuck fan because I find SB a little acidic and bitter. Korean coffee is rich, strong, minus the acid and bitterness. The milk is really good, which is probably one secret ingredient. The milk tastes like cream to me. I had to splurge on lattes inside the lobby bar. It's costs $10US dollars a cup. Outrageous but delicious. You'll have to judge on how much you really like coffee.
The food outside the hotel is fantastic. Busan is famous for the Korean pancake, called "Pan Jun." There's a famous or original Pan Jun house in the main restaurant district of Busan. The hotel can give you directions and the name. Everyone in town including the taxi drivers know about it. Actually, this whole area near the Pan Jun restaurant is filled with tiny street markets, eating stalls, and restaurants. I suggest going there early evening, and taking stroll along the streets. The food displays are amazing, and there's a lot of new aromas to experience. Cabs are very inexpensive in Korea, so even if you're driving, splurge and take a cab.
The hotel room was very basic. I didn't get upgraded to the executive level, and I nearly walked out when I realized I was given a smoking room. They cleaned the smoking room so well, that it was hardly noticeable...even for me. So if you get a choice for a ocean view that only has smoking, and not having an ocean view...take the ocean view. The TV is smaller than the usual large flat screens. I think you're supposed to look out the window for your real entertainment.
The bathroom is smallish, and I did have some difficulty maneuver around. It's one of those situations where the door hits the toilet when entering. The isn't very much space for toiletries either...so if it's a couple traveling...the space is tight. The shower doesn't have the wide "U" shaped shower curtain...so again, less elbow room. If your very large framed or tall, you might feel cramped in the bathroom. I am not very tall myself, and I felt a little claustrophobic. The executive rooms might have a larger bathroom...check with hotel desk.
The bed is fine. Linens were sparkling clean and comfortable pillows. The "Heavenly Beds" in Korea are not the regular US pillowtops.. They're much firmer, but still fine overall. There's complimentary tea and coffee. Internet fee is high, about 22US per day...normal cost for nice hotels in Korea. Expect to pay this kind of rate everywhere unless you buy a package. Packages are common in Korea, and good deals if they give you access to Club Lounge services and meals. Westin Chosun allows guests to use the fitness facilities without a fee. This includes the one in Seoul. So if you don't care about the food, then maybe a package isn't necessary. I saved a lot of money by buying a package in Seoul. The food was convenient for my busy work schedule.
This is a great hotel to unwind and splurge on. It's expensive, but probably worth the location and ambiance. I would come back here again, even with my family. It also does a nice job servicing business travelers. I only rated it a four star because of the cost for food and other items in the hotel. It's not the best value, but still a great place to stay.
