“Definitely worth visiting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

This is my wife's favourite temple. She is Buddhist and when in Korea, this is a stop we have to make. It is unique in that it is on the ocean front, has a beautiful Avolokitesvara (Godess of the Sea) overlooking the ocean. Try and get there before 11:00 a.m. for morning services. There are numerous steps up to the temple grounds. We have seen Haedong Yonggugsa evolve from a small temple to a somewhat larger place. Very popular with Korean Buddhists and tourists alike.

“Beautiful located complex”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

The Haedong Yonggungsa temple is a small gem. Subwaystation 107 (Line 1 station 7) and bus 181 brings you to this site. Located at the cliffs overlooking the sea, a small but unique complex can be found. It is popular, so it can be a little crowded, but its still worth the visit. Checkout the views from the seaside facing the temple. Impressive. Be aware that you have to climb some stairs...

“Superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

This is THE best temple in Korea I have ever seen.....!
View of the sea, temple location, architecture too good. It is a very peaceful place and worth visiting Busan only for this place (if need be). We could easily spend around 2~2.5 hours at this place. There are steep stairways you need to go through, but the effort is worth it!
It is advisable to take a taxi from Haeundae subway station exit 3 or 5 since the cost will be just around 7000 won ~ 7500 won. The ride is around half an hour (maximum) and the best part is that taxi can take you till the temple's vehicle parking lot.
There is just 1 bus which goes near the temple which is bus no 181. Time between 2 buses is around 40 min and it drops you on the main road where you need to walk a hillock (with road and a pavement carved). Taking a taxi from Haeundae station will easily save a lot of your time.
There are a few shops outside the temple selling snacks, coffee, juice, beads, lucky charms, etc. Going back from this place can be a problem considering that taxis are few and far between........ But we were lucky that 2 people offered to share a taxi with us.

The only negatives are surely the toilets. They stink a lot.... :( With so many visitors to the temple, I dont find a reason why the toilets shouldn't be cleaned. Except for that, I would call it THE place to visit in Busan ON PRIORITY.
