“'Wonderful, well-located, family-run hotel near Busan waterfront.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2011

The Elysee is a very clean, well-run hotel in Busan. One of the 3 family members who own the hotel, SungHo, is available at the front desk almost 24 hrs. a day. He speaks very good English and he is totally focused on providing excellent service to his guests. Examples of this are; 1) When I enquired about the best way to go about booking a KTX train seat back to Seoul he immediately got on his computer and purchased my ticket. I paid the same price as if I had gone to the Busan Train Station (20 min. walk away) and purchased it there. He did this in about 8 minutes. 2) When I lost my reading glasses and told him about this upon returning to the hotel he asked if I was OK with riding as a passenger on the back of his scooter. When I answered, "Yes", we immediately took off for an eyeglass store where I found a pair for under C$5.00 and we were back at the hotel in 15 minutes from our departure time. 3) When I was unable to connect my laptop to the power source in my room he provided me with an adaptor for a 10,000 KRW deposit. No problem seems too great for SungHo to solve.

My stay at the hotel totalled 6 nights and I found the location very convenient to the Subway (10 min.), Busan Train Station (20min.), Lotte Department Store (15 min.), Jagalchi Fish Market (20 min.), a huge outdoor drygoods market (20 min.), Busan Tower (10 min.) and a large variety of decent restaurants and nice small specialty shops (10 - 20 min.) --- all are walking times. The short walk from the NomPoDong Subway station entails about 150 m. of steep uphill walking so if you can't handle this you can always take a taxi. SungHo has the foresight to email a sequence of photos in advance of your arrival to guide you from the Subway station to the hotel and this makes finding the place a breeze- What a great idea. He also provides detailed info on directions to the hotel from the airport, various bus stations and the train station. NOONE could get lost if you follow his directions. This concept was unique to all the budget hotels I stayed at during my 8 weeks in Vietnam, Thailand and Korea. I found my room to be quiet day and night so no problems with getting a sound sleep. For those who may be driving there is a decent sized covered parking lot under the hotel that never seemed over 1/2 full during my stay. The hotel has about 8 floors and is serviced by an elevator.

My room, #203, a STANDARD ROOM, came equipped with a large-screen TV, bar fridge, water purifier, comfortable bed and decent pillows and a large bathroom with separate shower and bathtub and tile floor. All the required toiletries are supplied such as tooth brushes, tooth paste, bath gel, shampoo and more. One hand-held unit controls the lights, TV and the temperature control.

The outer appearance of the hotel is rather unusual and it is certainly an old building but I give credit to the family owners who keep it so clean. Within a day or two any guest will feel as though they are part of the family. This place is for sure a repeat if I come back to Busan. .

The motel owner is super nice! The motel is close to Nampotung - 3-5 min walk to shopping area and 5 min to Jalgachi! 3 min & take 40 stone steps to the Tower!

10 min walk to PIFF square - lots of hawkers and food counters to experience the local food, people and culture.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in December 2010 and had a great time. The owner was very helpful, e-mailing us directions and maps and showing us the room. We stayed in the Deluxe room and it was big with a comfortable bed, jacuzzi, private sauna, free internet, huge tv and free movies. There is a full range of toiletries provided (all the way to hairspray) which were of decent quality.

The location is excellent and within 10 minutes walking distance of the main shopping street/Jagalchi market. I recommend you try the market for their excellent raw and cooked seafood. There are also plenty of food streets near the market which serve tasty (and fairly cheap) local fare.

At first we were a little concerned that this is a "love motel" but the area turned out to be good. It generally felt safe although there was one night that we saw small naked photos of women in the lobby (calling cards). The rooms have soundproof doors though so really, you won’t hear much of what happens outside your room. I’m not sure I would recommend this motel for a woman travelling alone but it should be fine for pairs and families. There are 1 or 2 tv channels which are dubious so if you’re travelling with children, you might want to keep an eye on the remote control.

On the whole, excellent value for money as it provided good service, great location and clean rooms.

Hotel Elysee was a great introduction to South Korea for us - when we arrived the owner couldn't have been more helpful and the room had everything - comfy bed, qurky lighting, fridge, water cooler, hair dryer etc..... a massive tv, under floor heating and a steam shower! Would easily recommend this place as it is in a great location near Nampo-dong metro station and the price is right! Helpful and friendly staff too!

We stayed here 2 nights in Dec 2010 because of the location and rate.
It's close to Busan port, subway station and shopping centre.
Right next to the motel is a stair to Busan tower - about 100 steps - nice place with good view at night - freezing cold in winter :)

You have to go pass the carpark to get to reception.
The owner is a very nice man. He e-mailed us the files with all instructions how to get there from subway, Busan KTX station and bus terminal.

The rooms are spacious. The bathroom has a bathtub and sauna shower - it took me minutes to know how to set the water temperature.

The remote control is amazing - you can use it to switch the light - several settings, air conditioner, TV ...

The bed is queen size without cover :)

My friend's room has a beautiful ceiling - galaxy.
I don't like the dim green light in my room.
Free cable internet - free wireless internet on level 1 only.
Free water and tea in the fridge.

I found a pubic hair on the soap in the bathroom so I used my own toiletries.

There is a porn channel on the TV and also a selection of videos next to the lift.

Because of good location and price, I will stay here again.

I stayed a night at this motel-like place while in Busan. I threw caution to the wind despite hearsay that this was a 'love motel' meaning guests come in with women and pay by the hour.

Took a cab from the airport ( best if you show the address of the hotel in Korean to the taxi drivers, for the drivers could not speak much English) and arrived in about 30 minutes. The hotel had a castle-like facade ( abit cheesy) and the lift to the front lobby was cramped for guests with luggage.

The front lobby was also abit gaudy, as those found in Asian love motels ( if you have ever been in one) but the owner could speak perfectly good English which was a bonus.

The rooms; pretty huge for Asian and Korean standards, clean and spacious with a comfy queen sized bed, huuuuge bathroom with toiletries, tub, and steam-sauna within (!!), fridge, kettle, men's toiletries such as cologne, hairspray etc ( to cater to men in covering up their tracks, if you know what I mean..) and a huuuuuuge LCD TV.

Oh by the way, they have dim purple lighting for kinky nights and in another room, spaceship lighting themed ceiling and a remote control that controls most features ( lights, TV, aircon etc). Boy, was I impressed!!!! Do Koreans live like this??

Did i fail to mention there's a free porn channel included on cable TV? Hilarious. And a huuuuge ( can't stop saying this) selection of porn and other movie DVDs outside my room.

The sleaziness aside, ( I hear noise of people walking around along the corridors at night and cards of callgirls placed prominently outside the hotel's entrance at night...) kudos to the owner, Mr Sung Ho who was very hospitable and could provide us much assistance with directions, requests ( for taxis, calls etc) and general information about Busan and attractions there. He made the stay much more memorable than the already memorable room facilities.

Locationwise, it is situated next to an attraction - Yongdusan Park and the Busan Tower. It is also a hillside escalator ride down to the bustling Busan shopping district, Jagachi Fish Market, street markets and the famous Pusan (Busan) Film square.

This is a love motel with a difference in terms of facilities, staff and location so yeah would definitely recommend it to others ( if you don't mind the red-light district factor..)

I stayed there 3 nights. It is typical for small Korean hotels, but the location is great , and the owners are what set it apart for other hotels. They when way out of their way to help me every time i had questions and even sent me info on options about how to get from Gimhae airport to their hotel. Bye the way don't bother taking transportation other that locat taxis, it is about 30 minutes and only cost less than $4 dollars. Plus there are 2 different taxi services , one is much more than the other, and i can't tel you which is which.
