“Good location, exceptional amenities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

This hotel is close to Colonie Mall, convenient to highways, and just a short trip to downtown. It has great amenities, including a nice indoor pool, a game room, a snack shop, free computers, a restaurant on site, and a friendly staff. The rooms are clean -- not fancy but not expensive either. We recommend getting a room in the tower. They're newer and not so close to the pool, which smells of chlorine and can be noisy at times. We love Professor Java, which is a cozy coffee shop just next door with a large choice of delicious breakfast items and sandwiches. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Tower room are newer and not so close to the pool, which can small of chlorine and be noisy.

“Very good stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Hotel Staff were very nice and a nice room we stayed in. It is best to bring your own snacks and drinks as a bit pricy to buy at the hotel. We ate at 2 of the restaurants ,one a bit to fancy for us but the buffet at breakfast was very good. The hotel itself was built very nice and worth staying in just to look around. The hotel website is very accurate with their room descriptions, some of the nicest in the area. All staff that we encountered where very friendly.

“Dirty room”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

Had reservations for 4 nights but just stayed one night. Stayed in RM 308, which was originally a conference room made into a "suite." The carpeting was dirty, lipstick on the bathroom door and what was really disgusting was the thick black soap scum around the bathtub drain.
As a platinum club member, which wasn't acknowledged at check in, this is the first and only Holiday Inn we have checked out early due to a dirty room.
While checking in the clerk was distracted by a young man worried that the swimming pool was closing early and he ordered pizza for his party with his friends. Well, they did have the beer and pizza party. While trying to check us in she stopped to call the manager about the pool party.

“Excellent Location, Friendly & Helpful Staff. Good amenities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

Though a bit dated in some of the decor (felt a bit 70's ish in the pool atrium area), this hotel boasts a friendly, helpful staff with an excellent location to many shops (and mall), activities and with the help of a GPS, you are a short ride away from downtown albany and an additional great mall. I found the room to be very clean and spacious, as well as amenities in order. Though a microwave does not come standard with the room, it can be requested and one will be brought in and placed in the "wet bar" area. Room wise, I had a small problem with my desk and chair and it was immediately rectified by staff. Internet service was fine and free and on site was a lounge and restaurant, which all seemed reasonably priced (I viewed the in room menu but did not utilize the service). About a minute away by car was a supermarket (Hannafords), which, when used in conjunction with the microwave and fridge offered reasonably cheap and healthy fare.

Word to the wise, however: Do not eat or purchase fare from the Fish Fry (that is within the parking lot). The food was expensive and for the price worthy of what you would find in the Arthur Treacher's in the mall.

I found the exercise facility and pool to be good shape (the electrically powered equipment was in working and good order) and the lifeguard at the pool provided towels, when there were none in the workout area. Note, that the workout equipment was limited to a couple of treadmills, an elliptical (I recall) and a stationary bike.

This hotel is a great place to take a mental breather, if you need one. I would have to differ with some of the reviews that have recently preceeded mine. I was pleased overall with the hotel, the efficiency and responsiveness of the staff and the overall feel of the place. Note, I have high expectations as a DVC member and owner and would not rate a place meritorious, unless it so deserved such a rating, especially in comparison to other vetted Disney properties that I have stayed at.

I would reccomend this place to others and will likely return next year.

Room Tip: Take a higher floor and also request a microwave upon check-in.

“Good experience if you can speak up for yourself.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

I have stayed here 3 different times in the past 4 years and always found it very nice. This time there was a shocking contrast to previous stays. Stayed here for a 5 day work trip and requested a room with a fridge. Was given a tower room that smelled like someone had smoked in it, the lamp shades were not matching and had huge brown stains. The fridge in the room was not working and had mold growing. Called desk and they offered to switch rooms and I met the bellman with the new keys to the new room. The new room was much better clean , odor free, but only had 2 towels was not a surprise until when I used on the next morning and they cleanig lady took it but never replaced it. When I took out the iron and board the next morning I found a couple old pool towels tossed in the bottom of the closet, I assume from a previous guest. I left them there to see if anyone would notice. They did notice and picked them up 3 days later.
THe strange thing about this trip was the minute you voiced a concern or complaint the staff could not do enough to take care of it and they would apologize and make it better than you ask for. My question is why does the place not just do it right the first time? I do not know but wonder if this is a corporate or upper management issue because some of the desk and cleaning staff I remembered from previous stays. Hope the place staightens out because the beds are awesome and the location is great. Close to numerous dining choices and a couple malls.

Room Tip: Make sure you are not shy about expressing concerns and they will be addressed promptly. Other peop...
