“Nightmare on Watervilet Street”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012 via mobile

Website claims amenities include airport shuttle. Don't be swayed by the need for a shuttle, it is "availability shuttle" only due to contract w/ the Railroad workers. It was only after demanding a shuttle or paid taxi for us to stay. It is an older hotel in need of repair. No resturant service at time of my stay. Fortunately, thanks to Larry the bartender we we had great service and Brent the supervisor who arranged out shuttle. Too far from anything worth seeing.

Stopped here for a night stop enroute on USA road trip. Hotel is very dated and in need of a full refurbishment and deep clean as it felt very grubby. Rooms large but old, beds ok but would not want to spend anymore time here than we absolutely had to. Offered complimentary breakfast but breakfast area also very old and we didn't feel like we wanted to eat anything in case it made us ill. Poor show for a large brand like Ramada and has out us off staying in one of their hotels again - would choose an alternative brand.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel that is newer or recently refurbished.

Nice and clean rooms, not all Ramadas can say that. Nice Breakfast, Front desk was helpful.Found a great deal on Hotwire! They even have an airport shuttle if you get in late & car rentals are closed. Safe location.

Room Tip: all rooms pretty much the same

We stayed at this Ramada inn on a Friday night prior to a flight from Albany, New York.

Pros:
1.Convenient to airport for shuttle service (That’s the reason we picked it.)
2. When I asked for directions to the airport to return my rental, Eric at the front desk wrote out detailed clear instructions instead of handing me a map. I’ve never seen that before.
2. Nice, if modest breakfast.
3. Enjoyable dinner with large portions of tasty fish. Excellent service by the one server who covered the entire restaurant. Reasonable prices.
4. Timely trip to the airport for our flight.
5. Room A/C worked perfectly and quietly.
6. A working printer in the Business Center, 2 PCs.
7. Front desk cheerfully supplied us with a toothbrush when we asked.

Cons:
1. Extremely slow pickup from the airport after returning a rental car and phoning for a ride. The lady on the Inn phone said I would be cell-phoned in 15 minutes by the driver and picked up in 30. Neither happened. After 53 minutes the driver showed up with the Ramada van.
2. The shuttle van was filthy. My seat belt did not work. Also could use a step stool for an older guest to climb up and down from the shuttle.
3. Explosive toilet. We stayed on the 4th floor and the toilet “exploded” every time it was flushed. Will severely startle someone unnprepared for the “explosion.” Water pressure problem?
4. This Ramada is old and tired. Needs a makeover and update.
5. No ventilation whatsoever in the bathroom.
6. The stopper was missing from the tub/shower.
7. Only two luggage dollies in the lobby for a multi-story Ramada. Insufficient.
8. Some of the chairs in the restaurant were coming apart.
9. We were told on the phone that the restaurant served lunch, but they didn’t. Staff should be better informed.

Would we stay there again?
Only if we failed to find another convenient hotel/motel with an airport shuttle.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a quiet toilet and a working exhaust in the bathroom.

I have stayed here 5 seperate times in the last month and had 5 different room and EVERY room had the same problem. It smelled. One was musty/moldy, one was even heavy calogne, and the rest smelled like cigarettes. Even though they were "non smoking" I mentioned it to the desk and they were apologetic but couldn't do anything.
We did have windows that opened which helped for a while but due to the location you heard highway noise all night I you left it open. I did have a room I was about suffocating from the calogne but I couldn't open that window.
Airconditioners worked sporadically in each room.
Overall the rooms were clean though one was missing random decor, and photos. They had fridges, microwaves and flat screens.
Bathrooms were at par- one shower didn't work and leaked, one toilet did the same.
Beds were ok.
Overall the location is ideal, a quick hop to the main highway, malls etc but I would not recommend it. Staying somewhere else next time.
I checked out the facilities but didn't have time to use them. Same for the breakfast. It was too late for me (left before 630)

Stayed 2 nights, a week apart as part of a tour group. The first night we had many problems that were eventually fixed. They were made aware and on the second stay, they were much more attentive to our groups needs. The breakfasts were good and the gentleman in charge of the breakfasts hustled to get everything out and hot. First night had another tour group so it was rather crowded. Second stay was much nicer and more relaxing. Rooms were adequate. With a 3 shift cleaning crew, would expect cleaner ( things not dusted, refrigerator full of frost). Staff is friendly and they did try to be accommodating but just leaves a little to be desired. We travel frequently through Albany and were hoping for an alternative to our Greenbush motel. Don't think so.

Even though we picked a "non-smoking" room, our room had that heavy smoking smell which gave us a huge disgust and cigarette burns all over the carpet and bathroom tub. The next day we changed our room but the same smell seems to be stuck at every inch of this hotel. the location is terrible too.
