Over the course of many years, periodically I dine at Jack's in Albany. Frankly, I don't know why I keep going back...I guess I am waiting for that one meal that lives up to the many great reviews I have read on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately, that just doesn't seem to happen. Most recently I dined there with a group of friends. Yes, it is cold in Albany in February, but it felt like there was absolutely no heat on in the restaurant. I was tempted to dine with my coat on! I was colder when I Ieft than when I arrived! I will say the wait staff did a decent job, but it was downhill from there. I ordered the "skillet seared sea scallops"... obviously the chef doesn't know what "seared" means. There was absolutely no "sear" on any of the scallops. If you have ever seen or eaten a micro-waved scallop, then you have a good idea of what mine looked like. They were rubbery, no color, and not even hot... (barely room temperature in fact,) and neither were the accompaniements on the plate. My guess is the plate had been sitting somewhere in this freezing cold restaurant for a time before it made it to our table. By the time the waiter came back to check on us, everyone else was well through their meals so there was no point in sending my meal back. There are so many really good "fine dining" restaurants with atmosphere in Albany, there is no reason for me to return to Jack's.
