“Terrific old building”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

Very large building with a variety of types of seating that can accommodate large groups.
It is on the National Register of Historic Places built in the 1870's to pump water out of the Hudson. Food is good and offers casual pub fare as well as dinners. Probably best to stick with the pub fare. Service was good after 2 hours wait for table. MAKE reservations if you are going with a group.

“Decent food. Decent service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013 via mobile

Food is good, in house brews are tasty. Sometimes the service can be a little so-so but all around a nice place to eat.

“Good beer but some of the worst food I've ever eaten”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

Stopped in (our first visit) for dinner on Sunday. Ordered (as did the previoos reviewer - wish I'd read their review first) the Chicken/Ribs/Wurst combo. Let me say our waiter was excellent and the beer is indeed very good (has the cask-conditioned IPA).

My calamari appetizer arrived - big pile but many pieces we so big they had to be cut with a knife. Sauce was great but the miniscule amount in the bottom of the bowl wasn't enough for the mass of calamari.

Chicken and ribs are described as "dry rubbed" but instead were covered with sickly-sweet BBQ sauce and no sign of any dry rub under it. Meat had been pre-cooked long before and heated up to serve resulting in tough, dry chicken that was hot on top but cold on the bottom (but cooked through). Potatoes in the salad on the side were so undrecooked they were crunchy. Baked beans were tasty but also sickly sweet from too much added BBQ sauce.

Desert of 'Blueberry Cobbler' was a sort of sponge cake and what seemed to be canned berries - also ungodly sweet - perhaps the chef should check his blood sugar levels.

I can see that this would be a good place for drinks and snacks and perhaps the sandwiches are good but our experience means we probably won't be back.

“Not what we expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

Took this recommendation from the hotel shuttle driver. I had soup, my husband ordered one of the specials...chiken, wurst and rib sampler platter. It came smothered in BBQ sauce, not described that way. Sent it back, and the next order the ribs were charred. By now the hungry man was an angry man! He sent just the ribs back so he coild begin eating. The chicken was underdone (still pink) and the wurst was dry. The ribs returned, but by then we were ready to leave. I woild recommend this place for the ambiance and the microbrews. I think it was just an off night. The manager comped his meal.

“Great Food and Fun Atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Last evening was my first visit to the Albany Pump Station. My family had eaten there before and highly recommended it. The burgers are great, and the service was very good. It is a fun atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable. I will definitely go back.
