“History abounds in old cemetery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

President Chester Arthur's grave was the icing on the cake! It is a glorious tribute to the man, his family and his era. The cemetery is full of history. Many senators, congressmen, mayors and other New York statesmen are buried here. The cemetery is 460-plus acres and still has vacancies. Take time to wander around and read the headstones. They are remarkable. Some of the headstones are so unique, I've never seen them anywhere ele -- and I tend to frequent old cemeteries wherever we travel~!

“Alb Rural Cemetary”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

This is a very nicely crafted tomb, as tombs go. Look into the cemetary tour given sometime in October ever year. It gives you alot of info on the famous people buried at Albany Rural. Also a few ghost stories! Good time of the year for that!

“Lovely, Well Maintained Cemetery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

This was our 3rd cemetery stop on a 4 day road trip & I was not disappointed.

Although we came to see President Arthur's final resting place, I was surprised & charmed by the "soldier's lot" - very well maintained & visually striking (small white stones & lots of flags) - impressive considering these stones are for Civil War casualties & the last burial here was in 1897.

President Arthur's monument was a surprise & a lot larger than I anticipated - a granite sarcophagus & 15' bronze angel - definitely worth a look.

The entrance to the cemetery has a large map for navigating the cemetery, however, the office (although closed) also had hand-maps available that were most helpful.

Definitely a nice place for a quiet walk.

“President's tomb in an historic cemetery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

While the tomb is small and for a not so famous president, it is well worth the visit. Be sure to drive around to see graves and monuments of famous personages from NYS history. There are many veterans, including a number of generals, of the Revolution, Mexican War, Civil War, and all following wars. It's well laid out and a great place to take a good walk while adding to your knowledge of history at the same time.

“Very Beautiful Cemetery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

Chester A. Arthur the 21st President is buried in this huge and old cemetery named Albany Rural Cemetery. This is a very nice and peaceful cemetery. Not a lot of information on how to find the grave though. You just have to look it up online at their website at www.albanyruralcemetery.org and it gives you a location. But no directions. It was easy enough to find and fun driving in the cemetery. A lot of dignataries buried here.
Quite a different grave for Chester Arthur with a huge memorial concrete casket above ground and an angel standing and overlooking the tomb. If you are in the area it is worth the visit.
