“Great beer, service and band... Hooray!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013 via mobile

Stopped in in a Saturday and was pleasantly surprised with the live band. There was great pumpkin redhook porter on draft ( the made the pumpkin in the foam and added cinamo, yay) and great food to choose from! We got great cookie sliders for dessert ( waited fir freshly baked cookies). The waitress great and the owner made sure to greet everyone. All around good time! Will be back!

“Slipping lately!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

Wonder if it's under new management or what. Traditionally, suburban Albany's spacious home-style version of a TGIFriday's or Houlihan's or Buffalo Wild Wings (BWW) had EXCELLENT food. The rotating series of guest taps were moderately priced at Happy Hours, and relatively competitive with BWW and the other chain sports-pubs. But ... recently food ... quality has tapered off.

Some of the appetizer staples like chicken or steak quesadillas have been barely edible lately. The last steak quesadilla had too little cheese, almost raw onion, with most of the onion coming from the tough outer ring of the onion, and grisly overcooked meat. The chicken quesadilla was diced into tiny sautéed cubelets of chicken, versus long, grilled slices of chicken breast. And their French fries, once the region's BEST, and nothing like they used to be, nor are the burgers, which are now to compressed and dry rather than fluffy and juicy, or their baked potatoes, which used to be crispy and lightly chewy on the outside and steamy and soft on the inside.

Finally, it seems as if prices have gone up and that there's a nickel and dime attitude. The times I've seen a restaurant take a similar downward path, the restaurants never recovered ... and a close-down followed within 2 or 3 years. Is O'Toole's going to go that way, too?

Not predicting anything, but I have yet to see a big restaurant decline and then successfully pull out of the spiral to recover its former glory.

... Just saying.

PS: Oh, and btw, while almost NO PLACE in the Albany Capital District enjoys an inspiring view, some have patios. The hubris of the current owners was to get customers to rank their parking-lot fronting "sidewalk patio" as "The Capital Region's #1 Outdoor Patio" in the local press. Had it won, it would say less for O'Toole's than it would for the pathetic state of dining in the Capital area.

“Pour from your own kegs... great drink and food specials”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

Great place to watch a football game with friends. We got a table with 2 built in taps so we could pour our own drinks. One of the taps kicked, so we got a free "I Kicked The Tap" t-shirt from the manager. The beer prices were reasonable (bud light for $2.50 a draft) and half priced appetizers started at 9:00.

“Great "Cheers Bar" for the 40+ crowd”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

I stopped at O'toole's to play Buzztime trivia. The staff was friendly although my first bartender did not know her beers. They have about 15 on tap. I had a good hamburger and played the game with a few regulars. On a late Sunday afternoon there seemed to be about fifty people in the bar. Many were talking with friends. A large group was playing some game near the back. Lots of gambling in this bar to my out of state eyes. This place is in a suburban mall but feels friendly. If I am in the area, I will return.

“Good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

Went there for lunch. I went with a salad with chicken and dried cranberries and an apple dressing, it was really delicious. And huge! I couldn't finish the whole thing. Our waitress was nice. It felt like the food took a while even though it didn't seem too busy but maybe their kitchen is small or they don't have as many cooks on during the day. It is located in a strip mall in an area convenient to work so I will likely return.
