“Served it's purpose and was adequate for our visit.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2009

We were visiting the UAlbany campus. This is right across the street and very convenient. While not the greatest motel we've stayed in, it served it's purpose. The place was quiet. The bathroom was clean, the beds were comfortable and the room was more than adequate. The breakfast buffet was a little lacking (cereal, juices, coffee, muffins, fruit), my son was looking for something a little heartier. But again, saved us from going out to hunt around before our tour. On a scale of 1-5, I'd give it a three. The price was right. If my son ends up attending UAlbany, I'm sure we'll be regulars.

We stayed here overnight (Saturday to Sunday) to attend an event at SUNY across the street. Day's Inn renovated an older motel, cleaned and updated the rooms and offers them for a fair price. The bathroom is rather small but big enough. This is, after all, a two-star accommodation. Gone is the hotel bathtub, replaced by a good-sized shower stall. Water was hot on request, with good pressure. Towels were soft, and there were enough of them for the two of us. The sinktop is new, with one basin, and there is sufficient space for basic toiletries. Shampoo and soap and an ice bucket with plastic cups are provided. There is a large mirror. The room itself was large enough to accommodate a King bed with an end table and lamp on both sides. A small table and two chairs were relegated to a corner. No flat screens here, but the television provided was large enough and had good color, although it was precariously perched on the edge of the long dresser (large mirror over that, too). Furnishings are basic motel-room quality, but not overly worn. Five pillows were provided with the King, but two together was a bit of a strain on the neck. I found the bed a bit soft for my comfort, but my husband slept fine on it. Temperature controls were easily adjusted. A one-cup-at-a-time coffee set-up with pods and supplies are provided. The only noise we heard was the slight murmur of a television in an adjacent room. Otherwise, the building was very quiet, even in the morning when rooms next door were being cleaned. There is a dining room adjacent to the office where a continental breakfast is available from 6-10 a.m. Selections are limited to coffee, tea, cereal, fruits, plain bagels, English muffins (toaster available), apple or orange juice, and small danish. Coffee, which ran out before 9 a.m., was not replenished, and nothing to write home about anyway. There were plenty of condiments, though, including milk, half&half packets, butter and cream cheese, and a microwave is available as well. There is a television in the dining area,. Check-in and check-out were quick. Ice and soda machines are located near a side entrance. Outside maintenance could use some help. A trash can next to the same side entrance, full on Saturday afternoon, was absolutely stuffed when we left 24 hours later. Also, snow run-off from the roof feeds directly across the walkway, so there were many puddles along it. In icing conditions, these areas could be hazardous. The hotel is literally across the street from SUNY Albany. It shares a parking lot with another hotel which has a restaurant attached (a Ground Round in earlier days). There is a Dunkin' Donuts right next door, where several guests purchased breakfats rather than depend on the continental offerings at the Day's Inn. Overall, for the price charged, and for a single night, this was a fair transaction, and we would probably stay there again.

We had a power outage in the area and we were without lights and heat. We were blessed with a wonderful person (David Quadrini) who got us a room that was beautiful , warm, with a great bed, a good breakfast and cleanliness beyond expectations. We were allowed to stay as long as the power was out. Mr. Quadrina was hospitable., kind and provided us with all the comforts of home. I highly recommend this Days Inn .

A great budget hotel. Stayed there several times over the years. Excellent rooms and baths, clean, good beds. Wonderful free breakfast. Dedicated long-time staff. What's not to like?

We just needed a place to stay overnight while en route to Cooperstown, and this was perfect as it didn't make sense to pay $130 for what was only needed for a place to lay our heads. Big room with two double beds and perfectly clean. Due to a combination of glitches, we got in verrrry late (4 in the morning) and there was someone to greet us and get us in quickly, and even offered to let us stay in past checkout time. We still roused ourselves at 9:30 a.m. and got our rudimentary continental breakfast (sweet rolls, coffee and juice) and on our way. It's right (about 3/4 of a mile) off the freeway, so we were on our way quickly. But, it was about 60% of the price of any other place we'd trust sight unseen.

  • Liked — Convenient, cheap
  • Disliked — Continental breakfast choices were sparse

I'm not very particular about hotels... I expect a clean room for a good price, extras like a pool are nice but not essential. As this hotel didn't have any amenities like that, I booked it for the price and location. The hotel shares a parking lot with another, surely better, hotel -- The Best Western Sovereign Inn. Immediately you look at it, and at the Day's Inn, and question your reservation. The Day's Inn is not a horrible place, but plain and a little run down. The room was very small, the bathroom just had a stand-up shower, and my view was of another section of the hotel. Couldn't get wi-fi. Breakfast was bagels and cereal. As other reviewers have said, and I agree, all this can be overlooked for the low price for a standard room. So I wouldn't write this review if I wasn't charged an extra $26 for my stay a few days following my visit, for no reason. I contacted management twice and never heard back. If the surly teenager who minds the front desk is the manager, I know why. Bottom line is stay here ONLY if you get a great deal on a room. And, it turns out, even that's not a sure bet they won't rip you off after you leave. Try the Best Western.
