“Unforgettable Memories”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

I've got married in this hotel and it was absolutely fantastic.
The hotel looked after us since we arrived at the airport, the staff is very kind and anticipated our needs and the wedding was fantastic.
Hotel staff made of our wedding and honeymoon and unforgettable experience.
Totally recommend it!

We spent a week at the Banyan Tree Seychelles and, after having experienced the Banyan Tree Bintan we came with high expectations.

First the good things:
The location is absolutely amazing - it is probably the best beach in Mahe, the look from the Hillside villas into the bay are stunning and the colonial architecture was very appealing. The villas are clean and the outside terrace good to relax.

What made us unhappy:
The whole resort is not well kept and needs a major makeovers. The covers of the sun loungers are rotten, the villa outdoor Jacuzzi is scruffy and does not invite to a bath and you see the ravages of time took his toll everywhere. The beach was gorgeous but many the sun chairs where broken and thoughtlessly piled in a corner and looked like rubbish so that it was some work to set them up while the service staff was watching from a distance. The food was extremely overpriced and was max. average quality but sometimes really poor - each restaurant around the corner can do better and won't charge a fortune. The breakfast was everyday the same - no variation or special things at all - 3star standard max. After mentioning this at the reception the receptionist told us many guests have complained before but the management does not want to change it.

The staff was not very attentive (with some exceptions) but they often give you the feeling you are just disturbing and while we experienced great service in Bintan with flowers on the bed and quick response we had to ask several times for everything - basic stuff like bathrobes, towels etc. - the laundry took 3 days + 4 requests to be delivered.

The 'highlight' was when power went off several times during day time and - what was especially annoying in the evening. The hillside villas where not connected to the generator (only beach villas are) while the main buildings continued running the massive outside christmas lights we sat in the absolute dark for a couple of hours. Things can happen and Thunderstorms where announced - understandable but no candles or no flashlights have been provided at the room although power went off during the day before several times and thus management should know-but they just don't care. No excuse, nothing - the manager told us Banyan Tree has to do make over as the group just took over the resort 4 months ago - which is clearly a lie! Surprising to us also was that on a windy day the sheets with the guest details where 'flying' around in and outside the public pool area - no staff around but everyone could read who is staying where incl. all remarks. Quite shocking and I have never seen such a careless way of handling personal data!

So all in all, you don't get what you pay for - at all and the whole place is max. 3 stars. We were quite disappointed and it is sad to see how they allow the resort to degrade. A general makeover, management that cares, improvement of food quality and the place would be perfect!

Dear Guest

We would like to sincerely apologies for the short comings you experienced during your stay with us for your holiday. The power failure was not expected during this festive season.

We are indeed going to undertake renovation work soon; it is with this in mind that we extend our invitation to you to experience our new renovated hotel as soon as it is completed.

The begining of our romantic trip was dreadful as we felt fooled by a different hotel: the Meridien Fisherman's Cove.
We immdediately started looking for a different hotel and decided to visit the Banyan Tree. We went there for lunch (to test the food quality) and after eating a delicious lunch, asked reception if we could visit a free room/villa before making a decision.
It was amazing and the decision was taken on the spot. Pity we wasted 48 precious hours at the Meridien!
The beach was beautiful and even though there were high waves for a couple of days, we were still able to enjoy the beauty of it and of the general sight.
My only disappointment was the spa. Though the treatment was decent, the service and place felt fake and the location of the spa (in the hillside) lacked "a perfum of dream" I personnally enjoyed so much in the spas in the Maldives....
Staff however was very helpful and globally kind.
Finally I also regret the hassle of going diving, it is outside the hotel and although the hotel organises everything for you, I am used to showing up (at the last minute) at the diving deck, climb on a fully-equipped diving boat and leave from there..! Anyway those are rather minor drawbacks if you are there for a romantic stay! If you want to dive everyday and go to the seychelles for that only, then you are better off choosing a different hotel....

Room Tip: Beach villas are much better than hillside villas especially if you like the sand and sea....

Dear Guest

We are happy that our hotel provided a much more comfortable option for your romantic stay on mahe.

Despite all the minor drawbacks you have stated we are rather glad that did not stop you for having an overall enjoyable time with us. Even thought you had a little hassel for the diving experience we are happy that it was made possible.

Once again thank you for your kind and constructive review, we indeed look forward to see you again for another holiday.

This hotel is exceptional ! From its location to its unobtrusive yet warm service. The Spa is a dream. And the restaurants offer fantastic options. Everybody knows your name and they make sure that they remember all of your favorite things. Music and entertainment is also great in the restaurants. We had a Beach Villa which was a dream was here again with my wife and we had a fabulous time. Thank you Banyan Tree!

My husband and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon and we’re so glad we did. At the time of booking we weren’t sure if we had made the right decision due to the many negative reviews on this site. Even though we stayed here two years a go I feel compelled to write about our positive and wonderful experience.

On arrival my husband checked us in while I relaxed on the verandah overlooking the gorgeous beach and enjoyed a welcome drink. Little did I know he was arranging an upgrade as a surprise. The reception staff offered to drive him to some of the villas so he could select one. He chose the Intendance pool villa and it was amazing. Admittedly the villa itself isn’t huge, however the outdoor area makes up for this and this is where we spent most of our time. The pool jutted out towards the ocean and at the end was a double stool. Sitting in the pool sipping G&T’s while watching dolphins frolicking in the waves was very special. Near the pool was a double sun bed, a large outdoor lounge and dining pavilion and on the other side of a large granite rock was the spa. We had gorgeous 180-degree views of the ocean. In a word it was stunning.

The buffet breakfast was one of the best we’ve had, the buffet restaurant and room service were great. Privacy is ensured, reception called us to make sure it was OK for the room service to be delivered as we had left the ‘privacy’ sign on the gate.

For something extra special we also booked the Sea and Stars dining experience at the presidential suite. We felt like royalty. A lovely 5 course meal cooked by a private chef in the dining pavilion with a bottle of Dom. Followed by an overnight stay and breakfast in the morning. The day spa is not to be missed too. We never had to wait more than a few minutes for a buggy to take us to the main building. During our entire stay all the staff were friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make our stay special.

We would love to return again one day!

We were not staying here, but they do one of the best breakfasts on the island, so for a treat it's worth the drive. Not disappointed with the service or the selection and quality of food. They refresh the selections very frequently and so there's always a great choice, also the cooked English breakfast is well done too. Quite expensive for non residents, but worth the experience.
