“Value for money and great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

We arrived at La Desirade late the firt night and were somewhat schelptical. However when the sun rose the following morning we were pleaseantly surprised. The beach is about 10m from the front door and the amazing sunrise welcomed us into paradise. La Desirate is situated a at Pointe au Sel which is not swarming with tourists and as a result we had the whole beach to ourselves the 3 days that we were there. Accross the street is a local bakery and down the road is a supermarket whch stockss all the basics that you will need for a self-catering holiday. A 20 minute walk away is Anse Royale with a beatiful beach and ATM's. If you dont feel like walking then take the local bus (there is a bus stop a few meters away) for only R5. La Desirade is a great value for money accommodation, safe and private I would recommend to anyone. They also arrange transfers on request from the airport.

We liked this place and the view! Decent towels, bed and A/C. There's security at night to keep the locals honest and a safe in the room! Rooms are decent as is the bathroom. The bed faces the sea and that wonderful sunrise! It's quiet and we were able to check in early after arriving on a 7 am flight! There's a beach right out front for swimming and there's a kitchen to make meals, serve wine etc. We had breakfast in our place everyday, that was nice! Very clean and maid service daily! They made upgrades to kitchens, bathrooms and outside wooden furniture while we were there. This happened while we were away for the day at the beach. You need a car to stay here although the bus does stop right out front. We rented a car to be able to drive around to all the nice beaches and for food. The one drawback is there aren't many decent places to eat nearby. There's a pizza place and an expensive not recommended restaurant a few doors down avoid it!

Decent place to stay for a reasonable place! Car highly recommended!

Room Tip: We liked the end unit felt more private!

The location offers 3 apartments. We had (2 adults and 2 kids) the central (the best in my opinion) with a large beedroom (open space), a kitchen and a bathroom. The view on the bay is simply unique. The room is cleaned daily (except sunday) and during the night there is a person in cherge of surveillance. The distance from main island attractions requires a car (location available onsite for good daily rate). If you like fishing this location is perfect. The only remarks is the insufficient equipment of the kitchen area.

Stayed for our Honeymoon, a really good choice. It is not luxurious or 5* but rooms are very light and spacious. There is a large modern fridge/freezer, 2 electric hobs and a small oven. Good supply of utensils (maybe take a tin opener, ours wasn't very good) and a breakfast bar. In the bathroom there is a large sink, bidet and shower. There was a double bed and a childrens single bed with another pull out bed underneath. The patio leads directly onto a beach, the view from lying on the bed is amazing, the best view we could've wished for, and you can watch the sun rise. You can climb over a small wall to get to a large stretch of sandy beach. When the tide is out, the sea is only waist deep at most for a long way out, and you can see the drop off point where there are bigger waves. The sea is not an issue being so close to the apartment, as it is so shallow. The maid is very friendly, and had her children with her a few times who were really well behaved. She let them play in the sea whilst cleaning the rooms. (It's very safe, but best to bring water shoes, as sharp coral bits) We saw the lady owner the second night to collect payment, and she didn't seem in the best of moods then - a bit unfriendly and rude! However we saw her once more when she arranged a car hire for us and was much more pleasant! The car hire cost a bit more than she quoted, 40 euros if hiring daily ,and they drop it off and pick up from apartment. Glad we hired car, you can go round the whole island in a day. You need to drive carefully, very windy roads and steep drops in parts and be aware the buses come right at you! But do not let that put you off, it is nice to be able to pull over whenever you want a better look at all the beaches etc. We did find Victoria, the capital, a bit of a nightmare- very busy and hard to park! But a good day out. ( the market stalls are excellent for buying large shells, and we got a coco de mer for 1200 SRP) One other word of warning about Mahe in general - There are Palm spiders there. I am really afraid of spiders, and they are HUGE and about 7 in a web sometimes. They are everywhere (although not in or around apartment thank heavens!) even in the cables above the roads. It unfortunately changed our plans, and we didn't visit the other islands, go to the botanical gardens or do any hiking like we would usually do. This made for a relaxing break and we were on our own beach swimming a lot. If you are as scared of spiders as I am, I really suggest going somewhere else, as we could not make the most of everything :( Also, we had 4 geckos in our room! These were of no bother, but they did wake us up with their squeaking noises!
Overall, the Seychelles is gorgeous, but don't go for the shopping! (non existent) If you like swimming, snorkling and gorgeous surroundings it is for you! (unless you don't like spiders!) And if we went back, we would definately stay at La Desirade again.

La desirade

.I can't forget my trip to mahe island and where I stayed there and of course the very kind and helpful owner of this self catering apartment. the owner Pery and wife are really pay attention of what their guests need even when we need the wine opener, Pery deliver it right away. Pery and wife came to visit us at the property in the following night to make sure everything s ok.
They inform us where to get the groceries, advised us nice places to visit and gave some ideas fr what we can do while in Mahe.

Groceries shop owned by Indian family is about 5 minutes walk. Home made bakery is the neigh board. Bus shelter is pretty close as well.

There are 3 apartments at La Desirade self catering apartment, all with sea view. All the basic stuffs u need are there. Cooking Utensils, refrigerator, land line phone (it s free,no cost at all for calling any land Lind number in the country) and TV. The property has nice and clean bathroom with hot and cold water. The staffs come every day to clean up your room.

We originally booked other hotel. At first we didnt make up our mind about La Desirade. We were considering the security at property.  On the photos we imagined that the surrounding is very very quite and we took a note that it is not a hotel complex neither a fancy resort so we will never know what will happen with us. but on the plane we've change our mind and call La Desirade once we arrived at the Mahe airport because we like the property from it look on th photos. Lucky, there was vacant room for us. In fact you don't need to worry because there is a night guard around the property. We were in love with la desirade...the location, beach front and the rate is nt so expensive if u compare with other property and with the services we got.

More luck fr us, Pery and wife allowed us to stay at their property when we extended our stay in Mahe but there was no room vacant at the apartment. The lady staff (housekeeping staff?) who took care of us in the complex of Fleur De Sel self catering apartment Was so nice as well. Fleur De Sel self catering apartment also owned by Pery.

If it was nt because of Pery n the wife's kindness we could be stranded in the island. We are eternaly thankful for them.

Travelled in August 2010 with friend.

Additional info: The owner also have Yacht and car rental. You can ask the special quotation from them.

Room Tip: The room are spacious, clean, neat, and omplete amenities. all 3 apartments are facing the ocean. The...

Things to do / to take with you:

- candles for the romantique soire :)
Enjoy your stay in the Heaven!!!

We originally booked with La Desirade for a week in December but upon arrival we were told they had overbooked and moved us to their sister property of Fleur de Sel. We were concerned until we saw the place - it was wonderful! It is a newer property than La Desirade about 2 km down the road on the same beach. A bit modern inside with concrete, tile and a rain shower. When we booked we took them up on their rental car connection and were very glad we did. While we spent a few mornings sunning at the beach outside our room, having the car was important. The service was wonderful - daily maid service, a gardener constantly making the place look wonderful, free internet (incredibly slow - so don't get your hopes up) and decent shopping/vege stand within walking distance. It is very quiet, private and relaxing. Most of the time we had the beach to ourselves.
