“Our First Kibbutz”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013

This was our first exposure to Kibbutz life and hotel. Not a 5 star facility but not a bad choice. Room was very modern and clean. Shower was great. Food was surprisingly good and plentiful. The people were quite accommodating too. We saw a mongoose outside on the breakfast patio ( which makes one wonder what he was eating....) Lots of kids running amok while we were there.

Room Tip: Ask for a "new" room - preferably a quiet location.

I stayed at the Kibbutz Lavi Hotel recently, for 2 nights. Lovely decor, very comfortable, and friendly staff. An early morning walk to see the sunrise is an absolute must! I recommend this hotel highly, if anyone is in the Lower Galilee region.

I stayed here as part of a tour, so I didn't specifically select this hotel. It was basically fine, but a little boring compared to other places I stayed on this trip. My room (selected by the tour operator, who did not alert me that there were different wings available) was in the basement, which was musty and had some bugs. On the plus side, there was wifi.

The food was strictly kosher and a little bland, and didn't appeal to me. And, again, this is just my personal opinion, and I'm putting this in the context of some really excellent Israeli food I had elsewhere. However I will say that the cafeteria workers went to EXTRAORDINARY lengths to work with a person in our tour group who needed to avoid gluten; they were SO nice to her, and provided special breads and other foods. In general the workers (kibbutz members?) in the hotel were very nice and helpful, and they even had a free talk one night. The only exception were the reception staff, who didn't go out of their way to be friendly.

Finally, I had to pay extra to make local (within Israel) calls from my hotel phone. Not a big deal, but this surprised me because they had been free of charge in my previous hotel, and I didn't find out there was a fee until checkout.

So, all in all, this hotel was fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way to choose it. I realize that it is very popular with Israelis as a vacation spot, and it all depends on your personal preferences. The experience might also be different if you stay in one of the newer rooms.

We have no complaints about our stay at Lavi. But, rather a tip for those debating whether Lavi or their closest competitor for value in the area. The Friday night meal and most of the Shabbat morning meal was served to the table...no waiting in line like at the other place.

Other than that the view of the Galilee, the Kineret, and the surrounding country bespeak themselves. The atmosphere is invigorating ahead the pool delightful.

Ok so we didn't know what to expect when we were told we were staying at a Kibbutz. Upon our arrival we were pleasantly surprised, until we got to reception. For some reason the woman on the desk was rude and impatient and that was just the start. Our TRIPLE room was only made up for two, which is very inconvenient when you've been travelling all day and just want to rest before dinner! Eventually someone came up and made up the final bed, and then we asked for an extra glass/mug etc and that never happened. Upon our leaving, we were told to leave our suitcases outside our door at 7am, which we did. Every suitcase on our level but OURS had been taken to the bus, so we had to haul them down. When we went to the reception to settle our bill, the same heinour woman was there being less than welcoming again. I liked the Kibbutz, and the communal dining room, however your receptionist needs to learn to smile, say Shalom and mean it!

Room Tip: Just get used to the rooster crowing at 4.30-5am - better than a minaret!

We stayed in the Kibbutz Lavi Hotel in October 2013.
The room was very large spacious and clean and so was the bathroom.
The dining room was so very noisy, and like an over sized canteen. There were no individual table's but all long table's and it reminded us of sitting for school dinners!!
The breakfasts and dinners were very average.
In general the staff on reception were not very friendly.
There was free Wi-Fi in the room which was very useful
Our stay was adequate for the two days we were there.

My true rating for Kibbutz Lavi Hotel is GOOD, but TripAdvisor does not have a GOOD rating, skipping from AVERAGE to VERY GOOD. I used the AVERAGE rating because what we experienced is closer to AVERAGE than VERY GOOD.

Consisting of 700 residents, the kibbutz's main industries are farming, tourism and furniture making. Lavi Furniture Industries is the world's largest manufacturer of synagogue furnishings, providing their products to more than 4,500 synagogues during the last 45 years.

Because the Lavi Hotel is part of the kibbutz our expectations were relatively low. We stayed at the hotel two nights. Check-in was efficient and friendly. We got a real room key, not a card key; that's an atavism. The twin beds were mediocre (read: functional).

We ate two dinners in the dining room (which can also be described as functional).
the meals were good, with plenty of vegetables, and everyone was pleased, except vegans. (Minimal vegan protein sources were provided.) The two breakfast buffets were good, but they offered no fresh fruit. soy milk is available on request.

Overall, the experience exceeded our expectations.
