“Extremely Rude Owners / Staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2010

When arriving at this hotel you are immediately stuck with how pretty this hotel is with vast amounts of colours & smells from the flowers that lead you up the steps or slope to the main reception area.

From then on you are struck by how rude the staff really are. From then on it seems to go down hill on numerous occasions.

First when checking in we asked about the safe in the room. This hotel has no safes in the rooms which we find very unusual. We were advised that there is only one safe which everyone shares & only the owner (the extremely rude lady) has access to it. The owner was not available at the time & therefore we would not be able to deposit our processions into it for another 3 -4 hours & once we had done this would not be allowed to access the safe again until we checked out. What kind of hotel does this we ask?

The rooms were small & a little tired but pretty much as expected & bathrooms very small. The air con worked fine & a good choice of TV channels.

There were cups & a kettle to make tea or coffee in the rooms however it would be nice if they supplied enough sachets of coffee or tea bags with some milk for the two of us. A trip downstairs to the barman did solve this problem however this happened on a daily basis despite our complaints & on one occasion we were not even given clean cups by the person that cleaned the rooms.

The swimming pool was lovely however closing at 5pm on a boiling hot day is ludicrous & having a lifeguard sit virtually on top of you when sunbathing is very unpleasant. I am sure there could be other jobs they could be doing whilst keeping an eye on the pool area. After all we were the only people sitting by the pool on each occasion & there were no children staying at the hotel whilst we were there.

Breakfast was very good............but when they say breakfast is served from 8:00am then it should be ready at this time........each morning we had to wait for them to finish laying the table with food before we could eat........filter coffee was not ready on time ......... coffee machine was a joke as well as not working properly.

We did not eat any evening meals at the hotel & recommend going to Rosh Pinner where there are numerous restaurants to choose from.

We also asked for some maps of the local area but they were unable to supply any in English to us.

On returning one evening to the hotel we went to ask a question at reception but the staff who on duty was unable to speak any English.

We were pleased to return to a much nicer hotel in Tel Aviv with extremely pleasant staff.

We first chose to stay at the Villa Galilee as it seemed to offer much better value than the larger hotels by the seashore in Tiberias. This turned out to be a very lucky choice, as Tiberias doesn't seem a particularly pleasant town, whereas Safed up in the hills, is lovely.

The hotel has a slightly quaint Swiss chalet feel to it, which is a slight culture shock if arriving from Tel Aviv, but it is very tastefully done and the staff were very friendly and helpful indeed.

The on-site spa is a welcome bonus and the hotel restaurant was very good, so much so that we ate there 4 times in 24 hours!

I would heartily recommend this hotel.

The Villa Galilee is a charming hotel near Safed with a most delicious breakfast including home made breads and jams. This small hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, lovely gardens, and beautiful views of surrounding mountains. We spent our days with a truly amazing guide (originally from Great Britain). Richard Woolf, who lives in the area. He was exceptionally knowledgeable and a very charming and delightful person. We spent three days with him and my teenage son said he learned more in those three days about Israeli history than he learned in three years in Hebrew school.

Beautiful rooms, very good restaurant and breakfast, charmy....
It is not in the old city, so you need to move by car or taxi..
We had a last minute price arriving during the evening, so it is better to verify the rates before.

We were travelling in Israel for three weeks and wanted a quiet spot for three nights in the Galil to chill, lie at a pool during the day, have massages and be close enough to visit Sefad and surrounds ,and drive to restaurants at night if we didnt feel like eating in the hotel .Villa Galilee was the perfect choice! Pool /garden gorgeous, lovely surrounds, delish breakfasts and very good value for money. We ate in Rosh Pina twice as there is virtually nowhere in Sefad and found it an easy drive .

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2009

Let's start with what this hotel is not. It is not a full service 5 star hotel. It's a little hotel with 17 rooms located in a residential area of Zefat, a little out of the way and not within walking distance to anything but a small commercial center with a gas station, small grocery store and a local restaurant. The hotel has a very small parking lot that fits up to 8 cars but there is plenty of street parking around the place. From the street entrance it is a steep uphill climb (about 30 stairs or long route that goes around the stairs for those with rolloer bags) and as mentioned about not a full service hotel, people expecting help from the bell boy with their luggage will be disappointed as there is no such position in this place ... :-)

Once inside, it is a gem. 17 rooms divided into 4 categories (as explained by the front desk lady) - classic (smallest rooms), Superior (larger room with seating area), Deluxe (even larger room with seating area) and suite (room about the size of Deluxe but with a large balcony and a outdoor hot tub). Classic and Superior rooms have stand-in showers, Deluxe and Suites have a full bath tub.

We were check-in into our 2 Superior rooms - one was much larger than the other but both were great rooms. The smaller room (104) had a great view to the south (Sea of Galilee) and the larger room (102) had view to the mountain side but had seating space for 4 (sofa + 2 arm chairs).

Every room in the hotel has a 32" wall mounted LCD screen and a satellite connection. It also has a DVD player and there is a closet in the main hall with plenty of movies they give out for free to see in room. The room also has a small fridge with 2 water bottles and a small milk container - courtesy of the hotel. The beds are extremely comfortable.

Breakfast is under par for Israeli hotel standards but the quality of the products they serve is excellent. The hotel is not Kosher but does not serve meats on breakfast. They do however serve cooked to order eggs and freshly brewed espresso on Saturday mornings - something you will not find in Kosher hotels.

The hotel has an outdoor pool but this is not applicable for January. On a wintry weekend, your options are limited to the extra comfortable sofas in the small lobby or the seating area of your room. The spa of the hotel has a Sauna but to public hot tub - indoor or out.

The hotel's restaurant offers a very limited menu (3 appetizers, 4 main courses) and does not operate on Saturday evenings. We did not eat dinners there so cannot comment on it.

All in all, it is great little hotel. It is not in the same league as nearby "Mitzpe Hayamim" but is a great alternative to the B&Bs and hotels of the area.

When I read the critical reviews of Villa Galilee, I had to wonder if some people can ever be satisfied! The Villa Galilee is a charming, small hotel with lovely gardens and beautiful views. You have a choice of climbing steps or walking a ramp to climb to the main entrance. Within the building, there is an elevator. This is not a fancy, doorman-style establishment but I'm sure if you need help with your luggage, they will find someone to help you, with a smile. The breakfast may not be as extensive as those in large hotels, but there are only 21 rooms, so how much of a selection can one expect? It was more than adequate. I assure you it was more than you eat at home! The spa treatment (I had a hot stone massage) was superb and the menu of services extensive. We took the penthouse, a large room with a huge terrace, two lounge chairs, hot tub, and an additional table and chairs outdoors. We had dinner in the restaurant and found it delicious but you should note that it is not kosher. They do tend to cater more to Israeli guests but almost everyone spoke English well and was very helpful. It's a wonderful respite from the big cities.

  • Liked — Charming decor and views
  • Disliked — The shower soaked the whole room.
