Canaan Spa, Safed, Galilee, Israel
What attracted us to the Canaan Spa (for a few days r & r at the end of a business trip to Israel) was the unusual brunch concept, available 7.30 am to 3.00 pm. It was very relaxing not to have to get up by a specific time for breakfast. Another lovely feature of the place is the super indoor pool – half Olympic size –airy & light with huge windows.
It’s not a very serious spa – more like a hotel with a spa attached, although a few guests wander around in bathrobe & slippers during the day. Good value with our internet booking which included the lavish brunch (with squeeze your own grapefruit/orange juices and eggs cooked to order) and 4 course buffet dinner. Bowls of fresh fruit in the lobby and complimentary tea/coffee points around the hotel meant that one need never go hungry/thirsty, unlike certain health farms in the UK!
Our room was spacious with gorgeous views over Lake Tiberias and the Galilean hills. However, the hotel’s location is actually in a residential suburb of Safed. Not very inspiring until you are inside and can see the views. Also the “private forest” is only about an acre of woodland the other side of the car park.
Only certain floors, including ours (the 4th) have access to a separate elevator going directly to the Spa.
Access to Safed (one of the four ancient holy cities of Israel) by taxi is quick, 10 – 15 mins, & inexpensive – lots to see there including Artists’ Colony. The hotel operated a programme of workshops etc in topics like yoga, but we didn’t attend any as they were all in Hebrew. There was live musical entertainment all 3 evenings that we were there, which we enjoyed. The only thing we didn’t like was the piped background music which was occasionally intrusive.
It's not an easy place to find - not well signposted - fortunately, we arrived by taxi.
