“Fawlty Towers”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

We have recently returned from a stay at the King Solomon Hotel which is listed as four stars, and we can only assume that these stars are in the sky!

The outside of the hotel looks as if it is stuck in a 70's time warp and when you enter the hotel it is confirmed. The furniture looks like it has come from Habitat and is clearly very old and tired.

We were given a key yes a real key not a security card to enter our room and that is when we decided that we simply couldnt stay in this hotel. The furniture was white mdf with the carpet not quite fitting properly and we had a small balcony (with a wonderful view of Netanya) but both of the chairs on the balcony where broken and we were unable to sit on them. They were replaced but the chairs they gave us where not suitable for a balcony.

The tv which was on the wall was an old computer screen!

The bathroom was so small that only one of us could go in there at any one time. It was decorated with small mosaic tiles that were cracked and clearly had been decorated back in the 1970's. One night because there were a lot of people staying and using the hot water when we returned from the beach we had no hot water and so couldnt shower that night.

The staff we believe have been employed since the 1970's and were old and had an attitude that to us was unacceptable. However the hotel manager, did try very hard to help us and he gave us a basket of fruit and a box of chocolates to say sorry.

We spoke to a number of guests staying at the hotel and without any doubt they told us it was probably the worst hotel that they had ever stayed in.

The position of the hotel is fantastic very near to everything and the building itself has great potential. It does have a swimming pool, that had all black bits on the bottom and all of the furniture was broken and soiled. The bedchairs were heavily stained and for that reason we did not use this facility. Also the pool closes at 6pm sharp.

We would therefore suggest if you are thinking of going to Netanya to either go to the Seasons hotel which is very near to King Solomon or hire an apartment.

We arrived 11/4 having transfered from the Blue Bay Hotel because pool was closed until the end of May. The Hotel is in a very good position facing the sea, with beautiful views from the rooms and front of the hotel. There is a slip road in front of the hotel which only services the hotel bringing taxis and coaches to the hotel, and is quiet at night. It is a five minute walk to the main centre with a good choice of restaurants, supermarkets and shops. Would highly recommend 'The Scotsman' and the 'London' on the left of the Main Street. The swimming pool has one side facing the sea and through some patio doors to the back of the hotel facing high rise apartments. This is not particularly attractive, but you have to sit this side to get the sun in the morning. There is a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. As this time of year is out of season, there is no bar or refreshments by the pool and you have to go the main bar one floor down to get drinks. We were fortunate to be part of the Memorial Day and also Independence Day. Both events held at the town square. Memorial Day 14/4 everything closes, only the hotel was available for dinner. As there were so few guests, we did wonder what the food would be like. We were pleasantly surprised. Breakfast typical, pancakes, eggs, herring, tuna, salads, cheese, etc. The bar did close early 10.30 but this may not be the case in high season.
We found the Staff friendly, helpful and courteous with a good sense of humour. Literal translation of languages may not include pleasantries which may come across as abrupt. The rooms are not huge but adequate, with good storage, coffee/tea corner, fridge. . Bathroom small, take hairdryer and toiletries. If you look VERY carefully there may be some paint work that needs doing, but for its position and overall standard for a medium priced hotel, it does the job. It is about 40 minutes from Tel Aviv (£50 taxi ride). European plug adapter (two round pins). At this time of year, (temp 22-25c) although we sunbathed during the day, you needed a light jacket, long sleeve top at night, not skimpy sundresses!

Hotel looks a bit worn from the outside, with outside paint fading unevenly.
Reception OK'ish, and receptionist moderately helpful...
Very, very small bathrooms in rooms. Very nice view over the ocean.
Room itself is a bit barren, and not very comfy - but clean.
Training facilities not open when you need them! Opens at 9.30 am and closes at 6 pm, so closed before you leave and before you come back. Useless!

Comfortable hotel over-looking the Mediterranean. Quiet bedroom so wewere able to sleep well .Good breakfasts and dinners.
The salads were especially good.
The staff coped very well with large groups and made us welcome.

Just returned from 3 weeks at the King Solomon Hotel in Netanya, Israel. This is the 4 year that I have returned to this hotel. All rooms have great views of the sea and wonderful sunsets. The staff is always the same every year and very friendly. They are willing to go out of their way to make the guests comfortable. It is also within walking distance of all shopping in town, and the huge promenade along the sea is just across the street. Would definitely recommend this hotel if anyone plans to go to Netanya. The King Solomon Hotel combines an array of different experiences: besides the breath taking view of the Mediterranean sea and the pleasant sea air, the hotel staff was very pleasant and gave us warm and courteous service, excellent food especially the breakfasts. Comfortable facilities, proximity to the center of the city and reasonable prices. My experience with all other hotels in Netannya found this hotel to be the best value for money in the entire area!

The welcome and efficiency on arrival at King Solomon Hotel was much appreciated after a long transatlantic flight from Montreal via Zurich to Tel Aviv. It is a family-owned hotel and you get an immediate sense of caring unlike the plastic smiles at chain hotels. The room was very clean but utilitarian. There is a coffee maker and supplies in the room but no iron. Then I walked out onto the balcony and I could have spent the rest of my trip there ! Before me was a panoramic and fabulous view of the beach and the blue Mediterranean as far as the eye could see. Absolutely breath-taking ! Our trip included breakfast and supper and both were ample and delicious. The choices were fresh and plentiful. The service in the dining room was very friendly and attentive. Ask for directions at the front desk for the walk to the beach as it is not as close as it seems from the balcony view, but its worth the walk. The hotel is in a safe, clean and friendly neighborhood and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to relax and be taken care of. I look forward to going back again someday.
