“Friendly staff and nice view, but barely average rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2009

Stayed here in Dec '08 and Mar '09. Large welcoming lobby area bar with an excellent view of the valley. Good breakfast spread. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The place feels safe and welcoming.
Rooms are barely average. Beds are OK. Showers work but are crammed. Sparse furnishings and decoration, but the balconies in every upper floor room add positive ambience.
Pool looks nice, but didn't use it, so no opinion.
The 4:30am call to prayers can disturb sleep.
Recommended for those who want a place to rest up and get a good start to the day.

The Nazareth Golden Crown was absolutely filthy. The carpets were old, musty, smelly, dirty and stained. When we walked through the hallways, there were carcasses of dead waterbugs. The manager informed us that they had bombed the place a few days earlier. I can not believe that they exposed us to those fumes. It takes at least a week or two after a bombing for the toxic fumes to dissipate. One member of the tour group had a terrible time with his allergies. There was also cat poop in the hallway from some stray cats that were roaming the hallways. I saw bloodstains on one of the lampshades. I did not complain
because I did not want to be changed to a room that was more filthy.

The elevators were not working so we walked to the back of the building to take the service elevator. The inside of the hotel (the part that the staff used) was absolutely filthy and disgusting.
The elevator, floors and doors were covered with dirt, grime and sludge that had not been cleaned in decades.

However, the breakfast and dinner buffets were really good. There was a great view of the valley from our room and balcony.

  • Liked — the views and the food
  • Disliked — the room, and the hallways

We planned a pleasant family vacation at the Golden Crown. The first impression of the hotel was very good, but all the rest was very bad; the room with old and broken furniture, stained carpet and the bathroom smelled very bad, fridge not working.

The swimming pool was closed for the day, although it was mid-summar vacaction and a very hot day. We were told that the pool will be closed also on the next day due to a private party. The snack bar closed as well.

We decided to go to the SPA and the gym, but guess what, both closed...We then sat in the lobby (where the airconditioner barely worked) and waited for the single waiter who was there, but he ignored us. The other staff not much better, they wouldn't even raise their heads when talking to us, and never tried to help.

We were very disappointed, and on the next morning we checked-out and cancelled the rest of the vacation.

We were part of a Holy Land tour and were told that we would have a view of the valley.... NOPE. Infact they didn't even have our name on the rooming list. Our room (3rd Floor) looked out at a patio that was for the ballroom and the prayer tower... So at sunrise we heard the call to prayer.. no need for a wake-up call. Watch out for Thursday night parties in the ballroom that can last to midnight. The noise can be heard by MANY rooms on that side of the hotel.
Housekeeping was very lacking.
For Americans, don't expect to find coffee served with dinner. There is a bar on the 5th floor... (Lobby Level) and they serve coffee there. The food was very good, the pool area are very nice even though we didn't get a chance to use it.
