“Appalling, atrocious, absolutely awful hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2011

We chose this particular hotel, despite the high cost, as it's a member of the Dan chain, which had heard has a good reputation, plus it appeared to have good facilities for children.
What a terrible, bitter mistake!
Rooms were very low standard (similar to cheap American motels you see in t.v. series and films), bathtubs with chipped re-enamelling, public areas with huge stains on carpets and cracked mirrors, staff attitude (particularly reception staff) obtuse, unhelpful, morose, staff service - "what service? never heard of it..."
The only bright spots in the stay were the hours we spent at the pool (in need of complete refurbishment but....) and in the childrens' play areas, which are suitable for small kids. Bigger kids would probably be bored stiff.
On the whole we'd have been better off going to a local pool - it certainly would have been a LOT cheaper and a lot less stressful.
Bottom line - steer very very clear of this hotel. Spend your money elsewhere. Don't be fooled, as we were, that a being member of the Dan Chain equals meets certain standards - it doesn't.

Sometimes you have to escape the summer from Tel - Aviv. And I thought Ashkelon City is a good idea. And that's just an hour's drive south. The last time we visit Ashkelon city was 15 years ago. So we stayed at "Shulamit Gardens". Today it has been changed to Dan gardens. And I chose to stay there again. Dan Hotel group is very high-level brand in all cities in Israel but is a little different. I think there is a special hotel for Israelis there are lots of small children. Everywhere a lot of kids everywhere. Children have lots of activities and attractions in the area of the hotel, and if you are looking for quiet, not here. Has a large pool with grass is always noise. There is also a sauna and gym but I give up. The hotel has two elevators that constantly goes up and down and bring more children. The room is outdated and needs rejuvenation and it is definitely not the standard of Dan Hotels. The food at the morning and evening is fine. I love breakfast in Israel is very good and has everything you only can think of. Always a great lobby and a lot of families shout. The team always wants to help but he looked tired during the summer. So I've missed the previous time was "Shulamit Gardens," and was quiet and I could hear the noise of the sea is 300 meters from the hotel. If you are an Israeli and a lot of kids I recommend - but if you're a tourist looking for a quiet time to go anywhere else

This hotel in in major need of renovations. It appears to have the original furnishings-1970's???. The standards are low-the hotel is dirty ie. elevators, light fixture in room has an accumulation of insects/flies etc.
Would not stay here again. It is not a hotel for the international traveller. It caters to Israeli families seeking a good deal for a weekend with their kids (gymboree), pool , children's program at decent rates.

we visited for one night and regretted not staying longer. our toddler loved the huge playground. lots of activities and even a cinema included. breakfast was very good. the pool has a section for babies and the lifeguard was very caring and involved. the hotel is located very close to the beach and also a walking distance fron the city center. we visited during a holiday and enjoyed the festivities. 2 things should be improved: we wanted to stay an extra hour because our baby slept and we didn't want to wake him. they didn't agree. secondly, the beds are of a good size but the mattresses should be changed. i think they're too old. we didn't sleep well. all in all, a great place for families. great value for your money.

Room Tip: ask in advance to delay check out time if needed.
