The hotel had been open less than a month when we arrived. We were charmed with the personal service and loved being in the old city. Tourist have not really "discovered" the old city. We ate in the little cafes - and had amazing hummus and other local foods. The hotel's rooftop cafe was scheduled to open in December 2007, but their breakfast were very good. The rooms are large, and once we discovered the soundproofing blinds, we slept like infants. This hotel not only very comfortable, but also is unique. The family has worked hard to preserve the building's history. This is the only hotel in the old part of Akko.
Akko is amazing - read the 1st review. I would also recommend a boat cruise on a Sat afternoon. We were the only tourist, and had a great time watching locals as they folk danced around the Bay. As we headed back at dusk, the view was a perfect finale.

If you go to Israel, don't skip Akko. Great, old historical town with much of its history well-preserved and surprisingly under utilized by tourists. And if you go to Akko, don't miss staying at Akkotel.

This hotel was loving renovated by a long-established family in Akko. Once a great courthouse, the hotel is literally built inside the great wall that for centuries defended Akko against invaders.

The renovation is incredible. Much of the original stonework is still left, creating fabulous walls and archways. The rooms are immaculate, modern, tasteful, with great mattresses, internet, good water pressure...wonderful.

The family that runs the place is warm and inviting...they actually drove us to a restaurant one evening, to save us cab fare. The breakfast they serve is quite nice, VERY filling. They are in the process of building a larger restaurant on the roof of the building...it should be incredible. The views from there over the ancient city and the Mediterranean are amazing.

Staying at this hotel is like staying in a a museum...and I mean this in the best sense. The place feels like you are staying in a piece of history...and you are...but it has all the comforts of home.

Amazing place, not to be missed. We loved it.

  • Liked — The beauty and history of the place
  • Disliked — It was flawless. Nothing I can knock.
