“Exceptional, worth a special journey”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

Actually, calling this place a "hotel" is rather disrespectful. This is the place where you arrive and don't want to leave, ever. Staff is very welcoming, warm and professional. The gentleman who brought these houses back to life treated every brick with the same respect as the fish he is cooking in his restaurant.
I also got one of the best ever massage in the hotel spa.
I spend a good third of my time in 4-5 star hotels all over the world. The Efendi is in a category of its own, it will make me travel to Israel more often. It is also the place where I would want to fall asleep for ever, watching sun set from the roof top.

inside the old city of acre you'll find an amazing boutique hotel with 24 rooms built upon the ruins of a structure from the crusaders time & the ottoman empire .
along with the amazing experience of the hotel you can get all kind of holistic therphy treatments , walk inside the old city and feel the wings of history , go down to explore The Templars Tunnel , Knights Halls , The Hospitaller Fortress and much more !in addition to that the hotel owner - one of old acre simboles as an amazing chef specialized in fish & sea food will help youy find the easy way for picking the right fish for the right meal directly from the counter .. guess what .. ther's plenty more ..

Room Tip: all rooms are Excellent !!! the view is breath taking from all around !

We stayed for one night. My husband was feeling very sick and we asked for a doctor, it was Saturday night also, Abugad at the front desk arranged for a doctor and he arrived within the hour. We had reserved dinner at Uri Buri but cancelled as my husband was unwell but the staff organised a plate of food for me which was delicious. Our room was very quiet and peaceful, the ceiling frescoes, the furniture, the little touches like the sweets in the room, help make this hotel a unique and special sanctuary. Breakfast in the dining room is a must. Thank you Abugad, and the rest of the staff, we had a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: We had the Royal room which was quiet and peaceful.

everything was taken in account and in care in the Efendi hotel in Acre.
The place was a palace and became one again. the rooms have all you look for, the restaurant and wine-bar are great. if only it wasn't that expensive...

Room Tip: the simple rooms are OK (and aren't that simple...)

From the moment you step into the Efendi Hotel, you know it is an exceptional place. The owner has pain-stakenly restored the rooms to their original elegance and grace. Once a palace, it is now the most beautiful architecture in the city. After eight years of work, sweat, artists and restoration experts, the results are breath-taking! The entry way boasts high arches and stonework that shouts, "GRANDURE!" The rooms are works of art. The murals on the walls, ceilings (yes--every ceiling!) have been restored to their original colors and designs. For a romantic overnight with a or a weekend family gathering, this is the place you will always remember!

Room Tip: Make sure you have time to tour the building and enjoy the roof-top view after sunset!

Efendi is a collection fo old houses that have been lovingly restored into an airy and sophisticated residence of charm and grace.

Every room is beautifully crafted and the common areas are quite spectacular. In the old city, it is not simple to find - but worth the effort. We parked in the adjacent square and walked along the ancient cobbles to a door marked with the most discreet sign.

the breakfast was of the highest quality - but unfinishable - just too generous

a treat is the roof terrace where at sunset you can watch the swallows scooping moisture from the air as you sip a cocktail in the cooling air

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Nestled in the picturesque narrow lanes of Acre, the Efendi Hotel overlooks the historic city walls and the magnificent Mediterranean Sea beyond. The unique structure of this hotel combines two ancient houses that have hundreds of years of history stored within their walls. These houses were meticulously reconstructed and merged into one building before being converted into a boutique hotel.. Complex preservation and restoration work over a period of eight years gave birth to a gorgeous, breathtaking pearl that was truly a labor of love. Thought was invested in each and every detail of the preservation work, which was performed under the supervision of the Antiquities Authority. Artisans were specially flown in from Italy in order to undertake this delicate work, as well as the restoration of the beautiful ceilings. All rooms in the hotel are furnished and equipped to the highest standards, and each room has its own unique character and style. Some rooms' ceilings feature illustrations, while others are made from preserved wood. Most of the windows offer sea views, while others look out over the ancient city of Acre and the scenic mountains of the Western Galilee. ... more   less
