“BED BUGS”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

This place is swarming with bed bugs. I have a severe allergic reaction to the hundreds of bites and I'm still trying to fight the itch and pain. It's filthy, the rooms and beds don't seem to ever get cleaned. Beware!

We stayed in a private 6-bed en suite room and the beds were decent and everything was very clean and our air conditioner worked great. There was an extra sink and counter outside the bathroom, which was really convenient since there were 5 of us. The shower was great - plenty of hot water, which isn't always the case in Israeli hostels! Walid was incredibly friendly and gave us plenty of tips about local eateries. The wifi didn't work in our room, but there are 3 computers with internet available in the dining room (no printer, though). The Akkogate is just steps inside the Land Gate of the Old City walls, approx. 15-min walk from the train station. At $30/person, we got a great value and location at the Akkogate. And though there was an extra bed in the room, we paid only for 5.

Very central place, in central Akko, inside the walls.
Friendly staff, help us with our parking space (in front of hotel)
Rooms are confortable and ok, but the stairs between floors are very strange..
Breakfast not included (why?) and prices are high for what you get, but this is a Israel problem, such an expensive country...

I stayed here for a mammoth 4 days! The town is very small so a couple of days at the most. This is place is perfect for a quick visit. It's right in the heart of the old city and you can even walk from the bus station - the walk is neither too far nor too complicated. Use google map to help.

The hostel is quiet, friendly and you'll have no problems here. Don't expect 5star treatment and you'll be fine. The internet is stable (downstairs only), and there are no problems with hot water. The clean is clean enough and the staff fine. I enjoyed playing Waleed at chess (he's quite good ...)

I don't understand some of the criticisms. It's true the matressses are not the best, but what exactly can a person expect for the price? Avoid the breakfast - it's better to go out and get a nice warm falafel and there's a nice fresh bakery just a few steps away. The walls are slightly thin and noise from the street could be a problem for some so bring ear plugs ....

You'll have no problems here I'm sure.

Room Tip: I stayed in the dorm and had most of it too myself .....

This hostel is the worst place i ever stayed in my life.
Disgusting, everything was smelling like transpiration, cigarets and moistness.
The matrasess felt really like 1000 people slept there before us.
The breakfast was a joke!!, and the place were we sat and ate looked more like a garbage deposit then a restaurant.
Dont go there!, check the brand new youth hostel was build in the entrance of the old city, im sure cost the same.

Well, one thing I instantly do like about this hostel is the fact they have a student discount. In a world where people are forgetting about students on a travel budget, this fact automatically bumps any place up a rating for me.

As for the hostel itself, it's small and quaint, and very fitting with the overall feel of Akko. It's a family run affair, but you instantly feel in place with the city when you arrive at the hostel. The beds are comfy enough, with clean sheets and blankets. The owner is very friendly, making it abundantly clear he'll help you in any way possible.

These are the big things for me: clean bed and nice staff.

The bathroom leaves a little to be desired, as it is a bit run down. But the hot water is plentiful, if sitting under the jet is your kind of thing.

All in all, I'd stay her again. The location is great, and it has all the basic perks of a hostel.

Room Tip: It seems like there are issues with the bookings.com reservations. If I were looking to reserve a ro...

This is a small family run hotel. We only stayed one and it served its purpose. Parking is very difficult as it is in the old part of the city but the owner was helpful. Don't stay in the old city if you rented a large car!!! Close walking distance to the city gate and port. Room was very small but clean.
