Just back from another trip to Heaven on the Planet, as usual we had a very relaxed and wonderful stay. Over the last couple of years I have taken my whole family to Heaven on the Planet (2 sons and 1 daughter) with my wife coming for the 1st time this year. Each one of them has had a very enjoyable stay at HOT Plant. From mixing with the locals and practicing our very basic Indonesian to just chilling out reading, every part of our stay was most enjoyable. The hosts, Moira and Kerry have bent over backwards to make our stay(s) a most pleasant one with any constructive criticism taken on board. The staff have always been friendly and willing to help, though as is the case in most of Indonesia, things do happen on Indo time, which is not an issue as whatever happens it sure beats working.

I have recomended a number of friends to go to Heaven on The Planet and all of them that have made the effort to get there have enjoyed similar experiences.

Then there is the surf, while it may not be for your hard-core surfer, thought Outsides does present its challenges, Insides is as much fun as can be had in the surf.

Looking forward to going back next year.

My wife and 2 friends have just spent 6 days in Heaven. Kerry and Moira bent over backwards to ensure our stay was a pleasure. The transport arrangements beginning in Bali to delivery at the resort ran smoothly. Our room with eco friendly bathroom (no hot water - but you do not need it, the water is already warm) was very comfortably furnished and in keeping with the owners philosophy of comfort, cleanliness and low impact accommodation. The restaurant/bar and lounge facilities were perfectly situated and comfortable - open rooms looking out into beautiful Ekas Bay and the surf, surrounded by luxuriant gardens. The staff were friendly, helpful and eager to ensure we were looked after. With their limited but growing English, there were some Fawlty Towers situations, for example, when 2 calamari and chips arrived when 1 one was ordered - can you have too many calamari and chips? But that was as much our fault as anyones because we couldn't make up our minds about what to choose. And the surf was great. The daily massages (included in the price) were magic and the pool always refreshing with a Bintang/G&T with roasted nuts. For my wife and her female friend it was a most relaxing holiday where they read, swam, slept, massaged, talked, etc all the time. They relaxed and my friend and I surfed ourselves silly. Great stay and will be back soon. Thanks.

We travelled in august to Indonesia for 2 months, 4 persons. All over Bali, Lombok and Sumbawa we had fantastic hotels, resorts to stay in, until we arrived at !!!Heaven on the planet!!!
We had the BAD luck that the owner KERRY BLACK and his wife MOIRA HEALY, stayed there too. Most of the time, they supposed to do some strange business in New Zealand. The resort is too expensive, there is no luxury of any kind at all. OK the view is great, but the rest is terrible. The atmoshere is bad, local people working at the resort are treated very bad, surfers who come around are chased away by the owner, he even damaged there cars and motorbike, he claimes the waves an d the beaches. Very agressive man and women, taking advantage of poor local community. NO don't go there, there are so many beautiful places all over Lombok, avoid HELL ON THE PLANET and also Ocean Planet, same owner, same disaster! Tooo overpriced, no quality, bad vibe.We left as soon as we could.

  • Liked — the view
  • Disliked — everything, esspecialy the terrible offensive attitude of the owners

Unfortunately Kerry and I were not at the property in August 2009 so you did not meet us there. In fact, according to our booking schedules we have no record of your visit to us at Heaven on the Planet. We would like to advise you that far from taking advantage of the local people we employ the majority of our staff from the local village. We have donated funds to the village over the years to assist them with necessities such as quality drinking water and building of a mosque in the village. We contract the local village as a whole through the village head to build our roads and other big projects such as making foundations and the alang alang for our buildings. We have and always have had an excellent relationship with our village. We take great care of our guests and we like to ensure they get priority over other people who may trespass onto our property and try to enjoy the facilities without actually paying for them. To this end we do not allow anyone who comes into the Bay by boat to either eat at our restaurant or to swim in our pool. As we are so remote we only have sufficient stocks for the guests that are staying with us. No one is allowed to cross our land to access the beach or surf. While this may seem unfriendly, we are committed to our guests and want to provide the quality experience that they have paid for. May we also advise that we are the biggest tax payers in South East Lombok and are pleased to be able to contribute to the local economy this way. Many independent travellers and surfers ought to consider this and ask themselves what they do to contribute to the local economy that they are enjoying so much. This is something that the surf charters from Bali do not do for Lombok. Moira Healey

If you are looking for beautiful scenery and a quiet, secluded hideaway in Lombok, this location is for you. Views are outstanding and peaceful. However, there is information I wish I would have known before going into Heaven on the Planet. The people I was with and I made this trip memorable, but future visitors and the hotel staff should be aware of a few things...

*It is rustic. I enjoy the outdoors and was excited for a "camplike feel." I am also a big proponent of the ecoresort and saving electricity as this hotel does. However, your room will include critters in it and I was lucky enough to have a rat make a home in my backpack. I wish I had a heads-up about this information because other visitors seemed to know it as common knowledge. I'm easy-going and laughed about it, but I'm not sure if others will feel the same way.

*My cabin was great. The view was tremendous and it had plumbing and space. However, only four or so cabins have this feel and these advantages. I looked at other guests' cabins and they did not have the views or much room for the price they were paying. Some don't have bathrooms either. Be aware of this before booking so you can select the best possible option. This is not a cheap place to stay at and I do feel that some of the cabins are overpriced--be aware of this.

*There is a variety of food at the restaurant and it is quite good. However, the waitstaff and kitchenstaff needs a lot of reminding of food orders. I would say that 50% of guests' orders came out correctly or served at all. This did get frustrating at times and I was part of a very patient party. My advice: have the staff read back what you ordered. Also, try to get on a package deal where food is included. (Any types of drinks will not be included, but food will save money.) Otherwise, I do feel that it is overpriced...especially when a lot of what you ask for is often forgotten.

*The beaches are private and beautiful. Long walks and tidepool hikes make for a worthwhile day. However, this hotel advertises having fun items such as surfboards, paddleboards, and kayaks (this is a surfing destination; people will be bringing their own surfboards, I'm sure...but the hotel still advertises having them). True, they are available...but unusable as there are problems with each one from missing fins on boards (big problem that is easy to solve--the hotel really needs to replace fins) to boats that leak. Don't rely on these items to bring activities to your day.
Also, this hotel advertises "abseiling," a form of repelling down rocks, an activity guests were anxious to try. This does not exist at this hotel and staff members did not know anything about it. In short, if there are no waves and you were set on surfing, be creative with outside activities and do not rely on what the hotel claims to have. (We booked a dive trip through the hotel's dive master also that got canceled, so I wish I could give that as an alternative, but it doesn't seem that it's a sure thing either.)

In short, I WOULD recommend this hotel, but these are definite things that I wish I would have known going into it...and I do hope that the management (who was not there during our visit) and future visitors take note of these easy, fixable points. It is a beautiful place. Have a heads-up on these things and you should enjoy yourself :).

Thank you for your review and your patience when you came to Heaven on the Planet. It is appreciated that you were very good natured about the critter who made his home in your room. We have been battling the rats for a while and after many varied methods of eradication it seems we have finally won. Furthermore, we are sorry that your food orders were sometimes wrong. We want you to know our staff come from the local village and most have never seen a restaurant before in their lives and so, despite much training over the years, it is an on going process. This November we are giving our staff a month's holiday part of which will be spent on training courses in Mataram that will help with their knowledge and skill. Regarding the surfboards that we have it is not as easy as you might think. We are continuously buying more fins and leg ropes. Guests are continuously breaking them and often, by the time we find out about this it takes time for us to source the appropriate sized fins and then get them to Lombok as these are not readily available in Lombok. We have just returned from the property after a month in September and have purchased more surfboards as we were surprised to find most of the surfboards at the property were either damaged beyond repair or completely broken. This was after our trip in April of this year where we had repaired all of the boards and replaced many fins and leg ropes. We are committed to giving our guests a great time at Heaven on the Planet and will continue to work on problems that arise. We have employed two English women who will assist us at the property for the coming season and we will spend more time at the property. We think these things are the key to consistency at the property.

Good
Stunning location and views
Peaceful
Great service from the friendly local staff

Bad
Way way way Overpriced for accomodtaion and food
Accomodation and facilities are very basic
(No problem with that except the price is NOT basic)
Extras like transport (bike, boat) expensive by Lombok standard but no better in quality than basic
