If you are looking for beautiful scenery and a quiet, secluded hideaway in Lombok, this location is for you. Views are outstanding and peaceful. However, there is information I wish I would have known before going into Heaven on the Planet. The people I was with and I made this trip memorable, but future visitors and the hotel staff should be aware of a few things...
*It is rustic. I enjoy the outdoors and was excited for a "camplike feel." I am also a big proponent of the ecoresort and saving electricity as this hotel does. However, your room will include critters in it and I was lucky enough to have a rat make a home in my backpack. I wish I had a heads-up about this information because other visitors seemed to know it as common knowledge. I'm easy-going and laughed about it, but I'm not sure if others will feel the same way.
*My cabin was great. The view was tremendous and it had plumbing and space. However, only four or so cabins have this feel and these advantages. I looked at other guests' cabins and they did not have the views or much room for the price they were paying. Some don't have bathrooms either. Be aware of this before booking so you can select the best possible option. This is not a cheap place to stay at and I do feel that some of the cabins are overpriced--be aware of this.
*There is a variety of food at the restaurant and it is quite good. However, the waitstaff and kitchenstaff needs a lot of reminding of food orders. I would say that 50% of guests' orders came out correctly or served at all. This did get frustrating at times and I was part of a very patient party. My advice: have the staff read back what you ordered. Also, try to get on a package deal where food is included. (Any types of drinks will not be included, but food will save money.) Otherwise, I do feel that it is overpriced...especially when a lot of what you ask for is often forgotten.
*The beaches are private and beautiful. Long walks and tidepool hikes make for a worthwhile day. However, this hotel advertises having fun items such as surfboards, paddleboards, and kayaks (this is a surfing destination; people will be bringing their own surfboards, I'm sure...but the hotel still advertises having them). True, they are available...but unusable as there are problems with each one from missing fins on boards (big problem that is easy to solve--the hotel really needs to replace fins) to boats that leak. Don't rely on these items to bring activities to your day.
Also, this hotel advertises "abseiling," a form of repelling down rocks, an activity guests were anxious to try. This does not exist at this hotel and staff members did not know anything about it. In short, if there are no waves and you were set on surfing, be creative with outside activities and do not rely on what the hotel claims to have. (We booked a dive trip through the hotel's dive master also that got canceled, so I wish I could give that as an alternative, but it doesn't seem that it's a sure thing either.)
In short, I WOULD recommend this hotel, but these are definite things that I wish I would have known going into it...and I do hope that the management (who was not there during our visit) and future visitors take note of these easy, fixable points. It is a beautiful place. Have a heads-up on these things and you should enjoy yourself :).
