“You have to go Nihiwatu to understand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

We went on Honeymoon to Nihiwatu for 2 week in the first two week in October.
The whole experience was amazing. This place is one of very few places that really does exceed in a perfect destination. We were not surfers however there was so much to do at the retreat and please to go. Everything about this property is truly special. The room/Villa, food and the staff are at the highest standard. The beaches are empty and you get the feeling you are on your own paradise island.
In is all inclusive and only charge for special water activities and special requests for high end drinks.
The retreat also supports in the big way the Sumba Foundation which really helps many local villages with water supply and their medical needs.
We will be going back as often as we can. Our butler Anita really made the trip too!

The most amazing extraordinary exclusive luxury resort, words can't even describe.
Amazing, gorgeous, relaxing, beautiful and excellent food!

The rooms and the views were absolutely stunning. The resort has first class staff and facilities. Not to mention the uncrowded surfing....absolutely perfect!

We took the whole family including our children, they had an amazing experience too!

We will be back!

The majestical experience I had at Nihiwatu was life changing! Everyone was very kind and attentive. The food was outstanding as it was seasoned to perfection. It was pleasant not having to sign any bills during the stay as everything is all inclusive, this makes the stay more relaxing and stress free! In addition the activities you can choose from are amazing, jet-skiing to waterfall yoga and many others. The beach was spectacular as it was 2.5 kilometers only shared with buffalos. If you are looking for a enlightening experience this is the place! Loved the under the stars beach movie night .

We had an amazing time and it was unfortunate that we had to cut the trip short but we're so happy that we had the chance to experience Nihiwatu! Service was exceptional, our Butler Marthen, did all he could to make our stay a very memorable one. THe resort is also committed to giving back to the community and even has a turtle hutchery. Overall very very impressed and I will definitely be a repeat guest.

When someone told me their experience of Nihiwatu was "life changing" I secretly thought they must be prone to hyperbole. However fast forward a few weeks, post my own Sumba story, and I can honestly understand what they meant. I would challenge anyone to find a place/hotel/resort comparable to Nihiwatu.

It's true luxury and five star-ness is actually so subtle at first you might almost miss it, until suddenly you realise that you've never been happier, more relaxed or enjoyed yourself more on holiday. Nihiwatu is the epitome of barefoot luxury and, as so often, it's all about the small things. Take for example the fact that all the staff know your name immediately upon arrival and they wouldn't dream of serving you with anything less than a mega watt smile. Because guess what? They love Nihiwatu as much as you do. Then there's the surfing. Not only is the beach and break beyond cheesy description it's so perfect, but you won't find service-in-the-sea like it anywhere else. During our 10 days at Nihiwatu I surfed twice a day everyday. Not once did I have to carry my board, wax my board, worry about safety, rinse a wetsuit, or do anything other than enjoy myself 100%. Add to all that the quality of tuition and attention to our every whim and desire and I think you're looking at 6 star perfection.

The danger here is that I could just go on forever, because I haven't even mentioned the lovely rooms, the great food, drinks and the many wonderful excursions! However I think enough has been said for an accurate picture of this little slice of paradise. I will just add one final thought, which is that on top of all this wonderful-ness there is the Sumba Foundation. In choosing Nihiwatu you are contributing to the truly outstanding work of this inspirational charity. So if it wasn't enough to have a mind-expandingly wonderful time, there is also the fact that you're actually giving something back whilst doing nothing more than enjoying yourself.

After hesitating to visit Nihiwatu Resort we spend the time of our life during a week at the beautiful resort 06,2012. although we were no surfers neither frequent Sumba visitors as most of the other guest from over the whole world. If you like unspoiled beaches, original culture of this unknown part of Indonesia (monolites, Pasola, Ikat weaving, bettle nuts....) then don't hesitate to visit Sumba before it is too late. The staff is very kind and helpfull at any time & you feel as part of the family from your arrival till your leave. We visited Indonesia (different islands each time together with Bali) for many times and admit that Sumba is quiet different.

Room Tip: Chose the new part with the beautiful pool villa's finished by the famous Italian interior desig...

Nihiwatu is the only resort on the huge Indonesian island of Sumba. It is the only resort probably because if there were others they would pale by comparison, and who wants to travel that far not to arrive at a magical destination....My family and I were just at Nihiwatu for four days in the middle of a three week vacation. If I could do it over I would have spent the entire vacation there. It is without doubt the most high-end combination of sport and relaxation on the planet. You can SCUBA, snorkel, fish - biig suckers - mountain bike, hike, yoga and, oh, if you surf it sports one of the top private breaks in the world. So what are you waiting for? Well for one thing you might have trouble getting a reservation. When we were there every guest was a repeat visitor with the exception of two couples. Most were booked in for three weeks and several groups were there for their 10th consecutive year....Nihiwatu is in a word: special. We will go back. Hopefully, we can get in.
