We were cycling Indonesia and learned off Lake Maninjau, and decided to give it a go. We travelled to the lookout overlooking the lake on the East side and were amazed by the views. Cycling down the 44 hairpins was fun and the road was teeming with monkey troops (thank goodness we were going down though, the road would be terrible to cycle up). Arriving at the crater lake we found accommodation at Cafe 44 which was excellent. The lake itself is quiet and calm and is an enjoyable swim. As we had our own bikes we were able to travel around the lake to see the beautfiul villages, views gardens and people. If you want to relax a few days next to a lake this is an excellent choice.
