“Great place for a overnight stay if heading to Mentawais”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

We staed at this hotel for one night before catching a speed boat to the mentawai islands. (our mentawai surf camp organised this for us)
Room: very clean and reasonable size with nice bathroom, tv was great after a long day of flights.
Service: lovely front desk staff who sugested places to eat nearby.
location: great for us as it was only 5 min drive to where you catch the boats to mentawai islands, there were markets and places to eat very close by, which was great. In general I dont thing Padang itself is aimed at tourists but that what we liked about it.
Value: fantastic for such a nice hotel.
overall this hotel was perfect for what we needed it for and I wouldnt hesitate to stay there again, next time we are in the area.

Room Tip: our room was on the third floor and was nice and quiet

this hotel have a nice view to ocean if you breakfast in the morning at breakfast resto 5th floor . friendly staff, good locations in heart of Padang city, not too far to the Padang Beach and close to chinatown area (many traditional foods arounds here) .. the minus is poor for our parking vehicle guest ..

Room Tip: rooms in first floor

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2009

We negotiated with the front desk staff of Hotel Hayam Wuruk (located on Jalan Hayam Wuruk) for two nights and settled for a double room at Rp250,000/S$33.30 per night, plus Rp75,000/S$10 for an extra bed (mattress). The arrangement is that we would stay at the hotel for a night then skip off to Sikuai Island for a night’s stay, before returning to Hayam Wuruk for our 2nd night.

Hayam Wuruk Hotel, Tel: 21726 - 323395 (they don't seem to have an email or website address)
The room we got on the third floor is largely okay, with TV and aircon, except that the bathroom door had its knob missing. Obviously, someone had locked the door from the inside and the only solution was to remove the whole knob and lock. Hence the gaping round hole left in the door where the knob is supposed to be.
To us, this is not a big problem, especially not right after Uncle Jack's icky bathroom. A piece of tissue seals up the hole and a chair against the door keeps it shut. We're happy to be able to have a nice shower.

The kids liked the little pool at Hotel Hayam Wuruk. I told you - they like water play. It was also interesting to find that locals pay to use the pool (I suppose there aren't any public pools in Padang town), so you see local kids and youths swimming with us, just about the only hotel guests who use the little pool.
