“Could not sleep well. sleep after 03:00 am”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

I booked deluxe room, but i was unsure it's deluxe rom. It located at lowest room. Limited outsite view. It was so noisy because of broken machine (i didn't know, what kind of machine), so I couldn't sleep well until 03:00 am. I complain to receptionist @02:30 am then they shut down the engine. I can sleep after that with limited time. It's my first night of my journey with my family. Lack of sleep on fisrt day affected in the rest of my journey.
It also old building with old facilities.
Breakfast was not good for our family, it has limited menu.

i went here like 2 days ago. me and my family. we slept at this hotel for 4 days 3 nights. food was delicious! i ordered nasi goreng kampung on the first two nights and nasi goreng special on the last night. for the first time i didnt brought my swimsuit although they have swimming pool. its too cold to swim tho. it is a strategic place like you can walk to pasar atas to buy some stuffs and all. also got pasar gadang near the hotel. pasar gadang was a happening place i've ever been to. even until midnight, still got many people there taking pictures and shopping for clothes.

after all, its still a nice place to visit and to know other country right? :)

I've stayed here many times during my holiday to Bukittinggi. The view of the mountain is magnificent, make sure you opt for rooms on higher level to get the best view! The location is perfect, a cross-away from the jam gadang. The food at the hotel restaurant tasted well! Generous breakfast...plenty of options.
However, the hotel does need some renovations..I've found cracks here and there, broken window (!!), etc.
Anyway, if I return to Bukittinggi, I might stay in the hotel again simply because I have no other choice for what I want to get; view, location, great food.

Reception/check in: efficient and with a big "smile"
Service: good
Speed: good

Room: average size
Space: tight for two and two suitcases
Bed: not to hard, not too soft; good
Pillow: in need for wash/replacement, hotel doesn't offer soft/hard options
Electric facilities: poor, not enough electricity and the 1 thats available is placed at the wrong place
Wifi/LAN: very poor signal in rooms. Connection at reception: very slow.
TV & channels: LED TV, very poor signal quality; no international news channels, Nat Geo not working, Discovery working, HBO working
AC: terrible; has it serviced twice but stil not working, hotel offered fan but fan didn't work as well. Next day moved to another room, AC in this room worked 60%
Mini bar: available, prices are reasonable
Sound proof: not al all; windows are poor quality so you hear everything that happens outside and as the location is on a very busy spot of town it's impossible to sleep with your windows open, it's a pity as the climate is cool and the air quality is very clean
Price: expensive room: Rp. 950.000 ++ this type of room in a small town in Indonesia shouldn't cost more then Rp. 350.000++

Bathroom:
Space: small, wasn't cleaned properly; glass divider full with calcium, wall and corners have moulding
Shower: terrible; cold then warm then cold
Washbasin: broken
Toilet: keeps flushing
Towels: good quality cotton, clean but without a fresh smell
Amenities: available but very simple
Hairdryer: not enough dryers available

Restaurant:
Breakfast:
Food: local food, very tasteful, good selection, small selection of "Western food"
Drinks: tea, coffee, juices
Dinner: a la carte food reasonable priced
Service: accurate with a big "smile"
Speed: fast
Price: breakfast included, a la carte food reasonable priced, poor quality cappuccino and over priced

Car rental service:
Service: good, they use service of pak Erizal of Minang rental, excellent driver who was award "best driver of the year" by the local police, he uses a brand new Kijang Inova white, very clean car and very safe driver and he can show you the best places, worth to hire him although he doesn't speak any English.
Speed: fast
Price: Rp. 850.000 but thats included the hotel "fee"

I stayed only one night in the third floor with my family. From my window it was seen the beautiful scenery of Mount Singgalang and the elegant Gadang Big Clock on the other side of the room. The room I stayed was a bit humid, but it did not matter for us. The restaurant was built in a colonial style and it also had a beautiful garden on the back. A comfortable location to enjoy the breeze. The two ladies on the reception desk worked very efficient and full of Minangkabau hospitality. The location is good. It was just a couple step from Gadang Big Clock and Pasar Ateh Market, a place where you can buy souvenirs.

Room Tip: The higher floors, the better view.

The hotel room is very comfortable and the building is very near to popular places for tourists. The staffs are very attentive and polite. The hotel is nicely located at the heart of Bukitinggi. Highly recommend for family travelers.

Room Tip: Always ask for room with mountain view

Stayed in Bukittinggi for 3 nights in August. Decided to enjoy one of the evenings sipping drinks in the Hills Hotel coffee house. My daughter saw Itiak Lado Mudo on the menu and got very excited. She had read fantastic reviews about this dish and apparently it was the 'not-to-be-missed' dish in Bukittinggi. She ordered this dish and tremendously enjoyed it although it was on the spicy side. No sooner had we got back to our hotel when she began her visits to the restroom or 'kamar kecil' as it was called in Indonesian. She visited it 25 times that night! On one occassion she even did not make it there in time!
We had been eating from stalls and small eating shops on several earlier visits including this one with little consequence.
The whole night was a no sleep night, thank to the Hills. Good thing I managed to get some medicine from the pharmacist the next day for her. Otherwise I just could not imagine how we could have gotten tjhrough the 2-hour trip down to Padang for our flight back to Kuala Lumpur. No more eating at posh hotels in Bukittinggi for us!
