“Close to the habour and good enough for the night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013 via mobile

We have stayed here twice: before going to Bunaken and after coming back from Bunaken. It was convinient as it was close to the habour and they have many different rooms so reservations should not be necessary.

Our 2nd room was the better choice: standard with AC and shared bathroom. It was hot during the night so we have appreciated the AC. The shared bathroom was clean. The room was ok and had a window but the bed sheets a little dirty. Price was something around 150,000 IDR.

The first time we have had another room for about the same price (145,000) but have not been that satisfied. It had a bathroom but no AC. It was very hot during the night. Also, there have been no blankets and no window to the outside world. But there have been something like Windowless wholes in the wall that were not covered by moskito nets. Do not choose this option but the other one for same price as you will have a better sleep!

Basic breakfast is included. You need to ask for towels and toilet paper - it's not in the room but they will provide it.

How one sees Celebes Hotel depends on which room he stays. The best room on the 5th floor is spacious , has a fantastic view of Manado Port and Pasar Jenki , spotlessly clean , plasma TV , large bathroom and is quiet. The cost during February 2013 was 32 Euros per night with breakfast (or 16 Euros per person), which is not going to break your budget. The smaller cheaper rooms (but not by far) are windowless and claustrophobic. Celebes is strategically located for Pulau Bunaken and other islands but also for excursions in North Sulawesi. Recommended

Room Tip: Stay in Celebes only if the best and second best rooms are available. Best room is on 5th floor, sec...

"You can have there a coffee in the morning", the phrase dropped by local taxi drivers at Manado airport when they learned where we going to stay. And that indeed was a perfect summary of positive part of experience at this place. Food in the cafeteria was completely and irreversibly gone by 9.30 am (30 min before the end of breakfast time) and we did very enjoy our first cups of Sulawesi coffee in the morning. To be completely honest, another good point about this place is that you can see the actual sea from your balcony (very tiny and dusty) if you get "sea view" room, of cause it works only at your first arrival night. We stayed that night and were glad to have just clean comfortable beds after very long flight.

I stayed here for one night for a stop over before my plane to Makassar and thank god it wasn't for longer!

Although I booked the room a few days before, when I checked in at 3pm the receptionist informed me that the room was not ready (checkout is at 10am in this hotel, haha!!) and asked me to come back later, it was not a problem as I intended to go downtown anyway, but I guess it can be pretty much annoying for someone inbetween trips and in need of some immediate rest.

Manado itself is a bit dull, not a lot to do and no real character which is exactly what we could say about this hotel. Dull, dismal and very dated. The room provided was just horrible, dark, eerie, moulded, dusty and dirty!!

Moreover, my room was next to the lift, which meant lots of noise until 11pm!

On a happier note, the aircon worked well and the rate was affordable (Rp190,000).

OK for just one night, but that's about it.

Only one night sleep, is enough, nothing to do here, and nothing to visit.......only to rest one night to go to bunaken.

The satff in the evening not to speak english, and impossible to make a call. Only wifi in the reception.

I was recommended this place by a couple who had stayed here a few years ago, but unfortunately it seems that it has got a bit run down since then. Reception was fairly pleasant and checked in OK. Room was a decent size with aircon and ensuite shower and toilet. Everything was looking a little old and I'm not sure it was the cleanest. Sink in bathroom seemed to empty straight out onto floor. If you can put up with very basic standard, it's a pretty decent price for a private room in Manado. However, if your a less hardened traveller you may find this a little less appealing. On a plus side, it was within walking distance to anywhere I wanted to go to in Manado, they arranged a taxi for me at reasonable price to go to the airport and free breakfast...

We stayed at this hotel 3 times, it was always a good choice when we were on the way to or from Bunaken as it is right by the port. Also most of the shopping in Manado is only a short walk away. Rooms are ok and there are many categories available. Shared bathrooms are not the cleanest. I would recommend taking one with air conditioning, as we once viewed a room without and it was as hot as an oven! Breakfast is very bad, chicken porridge, mystery meat or sometimes tuna fried rice, or make your own jam tosties. Roof top bar is great for sunset.
