“Old hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

Overall
There are definately better choices in Makassar. This hotel is rather old and slightly rundown. Toilet flush not working, mosquitos in the rooms.

Service
Basic english speaking staff.

Location
Got a noisy low level room which faces the bay, but not much of a pretty view there. Streets nearby are quite dark and the lobby faces a back alley.

Food
Seems like there is nothing much to eat around the area. Streets are dark so you will probably feel unsafe at night after a long day meeting to explore by foot. In house places are somewhat average.

My Wife and i Visited Makassar on business and were very happy with this hotel for recognizing the needs of non smokers (with non smoking floors/rooms with strict penalties if someone is found smoking). The front lobby is also a non smoking area which is great. Two elevators, english speaking, professional service and a comfortable room/bed/nights sleep. The floating mosque across the street did not wake us up (not sure if we were just so tired or if the windows were better quality/sound proof but we were happy). Now for bad points... it cost us $17.52 to reserve our room online (not refundable and not included as a credit in your final bill..and i've never heard of paying $17.52before at any other hotel to simply reserve your room online). The food/buffet is good but expensive, even to canadian/us standards at about $22usd (room service food delivery is also very expensive but good quality mind you). Internet is my biggest disappointment. There is free wifi & there is paid wifi (and ethernet with cable provided), but the FREE wifi is slower than a 14.4 modem..no joke .. cannot even load my gmail for 2minutes. So i paid for 24h of wifi broadband ($16bucks !) and it's bearable ..but still way over priced and just normal speed, not super fast. All in all, i rate this hotel 4/5 in makassar and likely the best choice when visiting the city. The ocean sea view was GREAT and in closing we were very happy with the professional service they provided.

Room Tip: suggest a better internet service and rate

This hotel is billed as the best in Makassar, and the facilities are decent enough to be comfortable, both rooms and common areas. Bed was fine, room was clean, and bathroom faciilities OK.

Travelers should TAKE CAUTION, however, when booking online. I booked our group's rooms thorugh the hotel's own website, and in order to guarantee the rooms, the site indicated that this would require a 10% "prepayment". Well, upon checkout, the hotel reception insisted that this prepayment was not a credit to the final bill, but a travel agent fee (which was never mentioned on the hotel's website). After pressing my case for 45 minutes, the very unfriendly hotel staff continued to insist that this "fee" would be foregone and was not to be credited to the bill. A request to speak with Manager tresulted in another 20 minute wait and no resolution.

If you go to this hotel, do not book through their website or you may find the same "bait and switch" being pulled on you!

I entered the hotel meeting a pleasent indonesian lady who lead us up to choose the rooms we liked best. She was very polite and we felt welcomed instantly. The waiters are good conversationalists educated and the chefs are indeed maestros I rate any hotel by their sirloin steak this hotel serves the best steak in the whole world...so juicy and sumptous it was unforgettable!I loved the fact they had massage ladies come to our rooms and give us aromatherapy and traditional massage.Mum and I loved it.The bath tub was romantic could fit both me and my husband at once!My son was happy in the pool and the slides till he didn't want to leave at all.thumbs up for the management I have many times gone to indonesia by far this hotel gives the best satisfaction on all my money's worth spent.

This is a good location hotel, since the famous Losari Beach is only a few steps walk. The room is ok, the breakfast also. The price is just right, and the service is good, the staff is attentive. This is a beautifully appointed hotel with great luxuries i.e the lobby, the resto, the furniture. The swimming pool is standard, but transportation is easy with many taxis parks. Choose the "Putra" taxi, it is trustworthy.

Room Tip: Ask for room heading front, it is seaview...

I've been staying at this hotel a few times a year for around 5 years and it has continued to decline in standards. The best thing about the hotel is the lobby, modern looking and spacious however that standard stops when you hit the UP button in the lift on your way to your room.
The paint job on the floors is terrible, garish pink enamel paint on the doors to the rooms and generally ugly interior.
Beds are comfortable however Shower-over-bath configuration in the bathroom is never a favourite of mine.

You pay extra for an ocean view and while the sunsets are kind of pretty, the Losari ocean front is pretty ugly really.

The new Pantai Losari Mosque has been completed and is directly opposite the hotel. Expect to be woken at 4:00 in the morning by the call to prayer if you have opted for the ocean-view room.

The food in the restaurant has never been good here and I've always approached the buffet with caution. You'd be better off walking around the corner to the Seafood Restaurant which does great BBQ fish of all sorts and its always fresh.

Room Tip: Don't want to be woken at 4am in the morning by the very loud mosque across the street? Take a...

It is probably the most expensive in Makassar, and a very well known one too. The hotel strategically placed in front of Losari Beach, the iconic place of Makassar. The beach is usually very crowded during weekend morning and closed for vehicles.
It was probably the 4th or 5th time I stayed in this hotel, but the first time with my family. As usual, the front desk service was swift. The room is considered clean but outdated. And it was not sound-proofed. We still could hear people walk and chat outside the room. And because we had room with connecting door, the sound from next room was heard quite clearly. It was annoying.
The breakfast menu was dull. They didn't change the menu, so we got bored after day 2. There was not enough parking lot, so most of the time I had to park my car outside.
I would expect more from a 4-star hotel. It is still probably the best hotel in Makassar, but you can find better hotel with the same price range in other cities, especially in Indonesia.

Room Tip: Sea-view rooms give excellent view, especially during sunset. But they come with more expensive rate
