“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2012 via mobile

We were at this place with our kids (7 and 3) for a 2 day holiday from Singapore. Pickup from airport went off flawlessly and the drive, though long, was beautiful. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there.
First thing we realised on checking in was that the room smelt of cigarette smoke strongly and the flush didnt work. After explaining this to the front desk, they eventually agreed to change it to the next one. We were told that the hotel was completely full. This didn't seem to be true when we walked around the pretty large property later, lots of entire buildings seemed to be vacant. In any case, the second room turned out to be better.
The other major challenge was food. We tried ordering various things customised to kids tastes but all the food came out very greasy and unappetising. If I had to pick one thing that set the tone for the trip, it would be the bad food.
What did stand out though was the beach. It was beautiful and we would have really had fun if it weren't for the fact that we were switched off by allnthe things before we got to it. I would definitely recommend the trikora beach as a place to go!
We specifically wanted to get out of the very touristy resort cluster in the north of the island, but we did expect a basic but clean place with reasonable food even if it didn't have many luxuries. Based on this experience, I am pretty sure I will not be going here again. In retrospect, for what we paid for this place including the food etc, I would probably have had a better experience in the more packaged resorts..

Me & my friends plan a short getaway from Singapore since its holiday. We stayed in Cabana Beach Resort May 5-5 for holiday summer getaway. It has a very nice view of the beach specially when you booked a sea view cabana. The staffs are very helpful and accommodating. The sister hotel 'Agro Beach Resort' offers an island hopping cost $20 which is super worth it for the very relaxing clear blue water, white sands and sun. They also offer a free land transfer from Cabana to Agro. I definitely recommend the BINTAN CABANA BEACH RESORT specially those in tight budget. =)

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room

Yes we bought a Groupon Offer but even if the 4 of us hadn't too big expectations, we were disappointed. The hotel was not charming at all, the rooms were not clean, the equipment and furniture were very old. We had to cop with regular electricity shut down. The wind passing through are windows was whistling all night. The food was good, but the restaurant still under construction. Painter was 5 meters away from our table. The swimming pool was nice, luckily because the sea water was just dark and oily.
Staff was friendly and trying to help. We had a good time at the foot massage spot on the beach.

Still wondering how so nice pics could be seen on their website.

A very basic place that is in need of a lot of work to update it. It looks very tired. However, it is the terrible customer service that ruined the whole weekend. Everything was too much trouble for the staff and our requests for information fell on deaf ears.

There is no beach but when the tide goes out you are left with many square kilometers of mud flats which are fun to explore with the children who found loads of crabs, shell fish etc in the pools. When the tide is in the same expanse is covered in approx. 1 metre of water and makes an ideal location to kite surf.

Expect budget accommodation and no service if you chose to go here. However, the seafood restaurant was very pleasant and we were always happy with our food.

An old but charming hotel complex, refurbs to parts under way as we were there. Set down on the beach, so a lovely location with great views across the ocean of the small islands. We stayed in the hotel itself and had a sea view which was wonderful. Peaceful first night but after the arrival of hordes the next day (Easter Thursday) we discovered the walls weren't very thick, I shall say no more! The bathroom was basic and darkly lit, not good for those who need to shave, but it was clean and tidy.

We also had trouble with power cuts, twice overnight on the 2nd night, so the aircon turned itself off.

The spa is lovely, with some amazing and well positioned massage rooms overlooking the sea. The pool is small but looks out over the sea which is lovely. The pool chairs definitely need updating, you can't lie them flat and one had tasty some rather looking fungus growing from it :)

There are 2 restaurants to choose from both with extensive choices, but not so much if you're a vegetarian who doesn't like tofu! Luckily I eat fish and they will adapt recipes for you if you ask. Basic but good breakfast choices, sadly only white bread and the fruit juice was not fresh. A lot of the food was fried in various ways, batter seemed to be a staple there, at least for tourists. In the hotel restaurant we did have to chase up service a couple of times as the staff weren't always keeping an eye on the customers!

The seafood restaurant is out on the jetty, a lovely place to sit and watch the sun go down with a good selection of food. They were renovating when we were there, so we didn't get the full effect.

One big downside for me was that they didn't sell wine by the glass, only the bottle, which they sell at Singapore prices which are astronomical. I had to pay about £30 for a bottle of wine that would cost you a fiver in the UK. I suppose it did mean I didn't drink too much though!

The beach itself isn't really suited to swimming as it's shallow for a couple of hundred metres even at high tide. There's a lot of seaweed around too. You can book snorkelling trips but sadly ours was cancelled due to a storm. We did do the mangrove tour which was lovely but not much wild life. What was good was seeing the local fishing villages along the shore and then the fast 'speed' trip back down the river and across the bay - but you are advised to sit on the padded seat and hold on tight! They also have various inflatable rides on offer and open top kayaks, all for extra cost.

Wet weather entertainment is table tennis or billiards. They also have karaoke but that's not really my thing so I didn't indulge. They have a vintage car that you can borrow with their driver and a pony and trap. You can hire bikes but can't go out of the hotel grounds, so not really worth it in my opinion.

My husband used the gym which he said was functional but needed a good clean and wasn't aircon

I think the hotel itself is quite charming, but in need of a facelift (like me!) The location is superb, but don't expect blue azure waters.

The staff are lovely and very helpful and friendly. They even let you have a good look around the hotel shop without following 2 inches behind you like most shopkeepers in Singapore!!

I thought it was very good value, one of the cheaper ones on the quiet side of the island

Room Tip: Takes about an hour from the northern most ferry terminal but they provide the transfers and the jou...
