“Beautiful location but needs an upgrade”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

We stayed at Club Med in Oct for 4 nights with our family who live in Singapore. Upon arrival we were greeted by the GO's clapping and offering us a cold flannel. Check in was speedy and easy.

We paid for a superior room which was pleasant enough. The wet room was nice. The rooms need upgrading to bring in line with five star rating.

The beach was fabulous and so were all the staff.

Did not enjoy the dining experience. It was noisy and chaotic, like being in a school dinner hall. The food was average, not always hot enough. The choices were ok, they catered for everyone.

Would we go there again? Probably not. It was quite expensive for what it was, although if you have young children it would be ideal.

We have just returned from Club Med Bintan, was a long journey from Perth going via Singapore and a ferry to Club Med but as soon as you arrived it was well worth the travel, we stayed in the Deluxe Interconnecting suites and it was lovely, very spacious for our family of 4.
Lovely private beach, great bar on the beach, 2 swimming pools, amazing kids clubs and facilities, night shows were excellant, very entertainining.
I love the Club Med concept, all inclusive even includes travel insurance and all transfers.
The food was amazing, so much variety, and great cocktails
This was one of the most relaxing holidays our family has been on, thanks to the Club Med concept and the AMAZING staff!
Thanks Club Med Bintan

Room Tip: Go for the interconnecting with children, I would spend the extra money and upgrade from a Club to D...

We enjoyed the kayaking and the sailing lesson. The GM was very friendly and hospitable to all guests. The restaurant manager specially came to us on the first day and ask for what food to prepare for my toddler, very pleased n delighted with that. GO at the petite club wasn't too caring as 2 boys were fighting and this was ignored despite only 3-4 toddlers inside. Shows and food were below expectations as they seem to be of a budget constraint as compared to my club med trips to Phuket and Cherating. We love the beach at bintan! However, the restaurant and pools are located a bit far and have to climb up and down to the restaurant n pool were troublesome and tiring for toddlers.

Disappointed. Lovely resort, great setting, but not the 5 star holiday that the price would imply.

We spent a week at Club Med Bintan, 5-12 October.

The major issue for us was the deficient mini club.

We had 3 kids with us; 1, 4 and 5 years old. We'd hoped that our two eldest could be entertained for a portion of our week-long holiday at the club. We'd didn’t want to leave them at the mini club unhappy, so soon gave up trying.

The main problem was not the club's facilities, which in our opinion were ideal, but the lack of a couple of bubbly, pro-active personalities, to recruit, entertain and stimulate the kids. This was badly lacking. The mini club team appeared very passive and uninterested. There were a couple of friendly GOs, but on the whole the mini club team seemed lost.

In addition, club med “elf 'n safety” rules dictate that there is actually very little to do for 4-5 year olds. We realise you need rules as guidance – but in our view it should always be possible for a parent to sign a disclaimer, so that they can take their 4 year old on a boat/kayak or fire an arrow etc if they are willing to take full responsibility. This isn’t the case.

As it was, our 4 & 5 year old weren’t allowed to swim in the main pool, so had to swim in mini club pool (depth 0.5m), with armbands on, even though both of them can swim, unaided, perfectly. This did not help attract them to the mini club!

Also poor:

- The GOs seemed to lack motivation, appearing tired and aloof (perhaps due to end of season?)
- As already mentioned on this site: rooms were shabby; and for what it would cost to rectify, this should just be done.
- A foul smell seemed to linger constantly in the ground floor bar area – we can’t have been the only ones to notice?

On the plus side:
- All resort staff, cleaners, gardeners, waiters etc. were very attentive and friendly (more so than the GOs)
- Food was fantastic - Simon Lau does an excellent job.

Would we go on another Club Med holiday? No - unless we could be guaranteed of better mini club personnel.

The most relaxing holiday. The beach is wonderful ideal for the children with the rock pool abd the fish swimming around you. The beach bar is also a relaxing place to enjoy some quiet time and of course the odd cocktail. The GO's are a friendly bunch - the reception staff headed up by Haffiz and Airielle and Juliet were also simply the best. The Chief of the Village was exceptional and would be one of the most caring and friendliest Chiefs we have encountered. All of us which was myself, 3 sons and 2 grandchildren all want to return.

Room Tip: Definitely upgrade to a ground floor room - more space and convenient if you have children as they a...

Being all inclusive made the stay very easy. The beach is picture perfect, private with soft white sand. The sea was clear and warm. I enjoyed the water sports and the GOs, namely - Alex, Edward, Petty and Robert, were really friendly and approachable. Was surprised to be called out by name on my 2nd day.

The entertainment programs at night was great as well, was pretty amazed by the talents of the GOs. Especially some of the male GOs could passed off as pretty girls on "Miss Bintan" night.

The only draw back was the night life in the resort - by 11pm there were only a handful of people left, and the bar closes at 1145pm which was quite ridiculous. I thought party only starts after midnight.

When we arrive in Bintan Island, somebody from the hotel drove us to the resort - staff welcomed us and somebody immediately gave us the key - no need to check in. (Awesome!)

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all buffet - different choices from Chinese, Japanese, American to Italian cuisine! All are very good especially the desserts!

View are amazing.. Very quiet. Not very crowded but it's mainly for kids / family vacation. Lots children activities but it can also be a romantic getaway by the beach.
