Firstly don't go with too many expectations. Ferry ride to Tanjong Pinang is comfortable but the wait at the ferry terminal coming back is not at all pleasant. Crowded hot and very stuffy as they dont ban smoking in he waiting area.
Bus ride to Kelong is ok. Usually an old bus but no major complains.
Some people get nervous walking on the wooden planks which you have to walk to get to the Kelong. My family never had a problem. Selva
The friendly and warm greeting from Mr and Mrs Lim makes up for any inconvenience endured during the trip. Lunch is served once you get to the Kelong. You dump your bags in the rooms which are simple and almost immediately tuck in the seafood spread. Rice, seafood, chicken, veggie, fruits. Since we do not like shellfish, it's fish, crab, prawns, lobster mango salad, squid for us. Two hours after lunch, it's fried goring pisang and sweet potato. Then another sumptuous dinner awaits. Then if you still have space... Satay...
Breakfast is western - bread and eggs. Or beehoon, porridge and condiments.
Midday snacks follow. Good fare and way tot much.
We like to chill out on the Kelong. Swim in the enclosed pool, play pool, darts and watch movies we bring with us. Canoeing just a wee bit, banana boat sometimes and have been to the islands. A deck of cards to while away the time too. A lady cones in to provide massage. No hanky lanky stuff. Mrs Lim is strict about that. Suits us just fine.
Before you know it, time to leave. Pay up for soft drinks and the ikan bills you may buy and hop onto the bus for the ferry ride home. You can of course stop at the local shops to buy snacks uf you wish. Reasonable price and quality. Don't bother to go to the only shopping centre in town - you will be disappointed.
Go with simple expectations and you well be well rewarded. I will be there again in Dec 2012... Probably my sixth time in 10 years and I have had no complains...
