We stayed at Banyan Tree, Bintan for two nights in a pool villa. A 45 minutes ferry ride from Singapore brought us to Bintan. Its visa on arrival and it took about 30 minutes to leave the ferry terminal. The island of Bintan is till 90% forest. The property is serene, clean and is located right on a wooded slope of the shore line. Almost all the villas have a good view of the calm South China sea. One Indonesian & Thai restaurant and one restaurant with some international & mixed cuisine took care of our appetites. Breakfast spread was good. Personally, I would wish for a little bit more choice in food selection. The rooms, walkways, gardens were very well maintained. All the staff were very polite and cheerful. The buggy staff are well informed and courteous. The pool near the beach was clean. The beach is also well maintained. The tide is calm and there is not much wave action. The beach is shallow and you can wade a good 50 to 60 meters with your feet still on the sand. Small rock outcrops provide some idling & slippery space & small colourful fish can be seen nibbling away the moss on the outcrops. The water is quite clear to a depth of about 3 feet. Angsana resort & spa is adjoining property and has a on beach restaurant. Being sister concerns, guests can access restaurants and other public places of both resorts. There is an sports outlet on the beach which rents out atv's, jetski's, snorkeling eqpt, surf boards etc. The people at the outlet are friendly and helpful and took good care regarding safety. Overall, the place is very very beautiful, calm, relaxing and enjoyable. Good place to unwind, rest, and catch up on some family time & reading.

Room Tip: Ensure you have sea facing rooms and be clear about the pool you want as there are villas with wade...

We stayed for 4 nights in a villa on the rocks. This was our second stay, first one was 4 years ago. Outside area of Villa was renewed, including a bigger plunge pool and new flooring. Inside, the living room and bathroom got some new paint, but still show some signs of deterioration.
The whole resort is still in the process of renovation, during our sta the Treetops restaurant as well as the adjacent pool were closed for renewal. Once completed, the oceanside pool area will be refurbished ( at least the management told us). After all is completed, i think it will be back at the quality it had 4 years ago.
Breakfast was served in the Cove Restaurant ( due to closure of TreeTops), choices were ok-ish, but not 5 Star level.
Up to this point, i would rate it as 4 Points with tripadvisor.
So why 5 Points in rating?
One Day before departure, i stepped onto a poisenous sea creature. Staff accompanied me towards a doctor in some near located resort and translated. But medical care in Indonesia was not satisfying. Management was informed about the accident and cared a lot about my well- being. After i told them we want to leave for singapore to get better medical treatment, they arranged everythink from ferry tickets to taxi booking in singapore and gave advice about which hospital to go to. Front Office managerin Ms Son accompanied us to the ferry terminal and through immigrations to ensure everything went as smooth as possible. She even tried to reach my on my mobile phone to get updates on my condition. I felt that Mr Vamvakas and Ms Son really want to do all that is possible to ensure my well being. Thank you once more.
Thats why i rate it 5 Points. In exceptional situations you can count on the whole team to ensure all is running as smoothly as possible.

We stayed for a couple of days at this very nice resort with our family of six, with four small children (12-5). Location and Villa exceeded our expectations, as was the very attentive personnel at the resort. Indonesian restaurant was closed for refurbishment, but other outlets were nice. Breakfast was included en very elaborate. Restaurant prices are in US$ and a bit overrated. It is also easily possible to visit local market or restaurant in other resorts (Kelong). We would love to come back again and will recommend this resort to our friends!

Stayed in Villa on the Rocks and Sanctuary Pool Villa in two different occasions- I loved the jacuzzi in Villa on the Rocks but the private infinity pool in Sanctuary Pool Villa was just unbeatable! All the rooms were extremely spacious and well maintained except for the bed curtain which had dead bugs on it and were never removed during our stay. One of the highlights of this trip was discovering Banyan Tree Shower&Bath Products, (which I still use back at home) as they are handmade with natural ingredients and feel wonderful on your skin. I had several treatments in the Banyan Tree Spa and it was such relaxing experience that I always fell asleep in the midst of a treatment. I would recommend requesting for a spa villa if you are getting a couple's treatment as the normal treatment rooms are not soundproof and lacks peacefulness of the spa villa. Food was okay compared to other 5-star resorts as I was quite disappointed with the quality of breakfast buffet (especially the peach bellini) and the Cove. Room service was impressively performed by a team of professional staff and were delivered promptly. The hotel offers a wide range of outdoor activities although I would only go back to relax and rejuvenate myself in the lovely spa!

We spent a weekend here. This place is romantic and rooms are absolutely beautiful. We had the villa on the rocks which meant that at night we heard the sea below us and had a stunning view. Although the views area breathtaking from all villas. We also enjoyed the spa, very much. The side by side massage and scrub, with showers on the balcony overlooking the sea. It was Soo relaxing! I would recommend and also would go back

Beautiful hotel in a wonderful setting (for people who like to be close to nature). Tastefully furnished, spacious villas with astonishing view. Friendly service, though not always very efficiant! Very good thai restaurant.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Close to Singapore lies a sweep of brilliant Indonesian islands, the most spectacular of which are found in the Riau Archipelago. Bintan Island has long been one of the region's most popular destinations. Banyan Tree Bintan occupies 240 hectares on the sea front and is comprised of 72 villas modeled on traditional Balinese architecture, all beautifully located in virgin forest. The resort's Jacuzzi villas have jacuzzis built into their sun decks whilst the two-bedroom pool villas have their own plunge or swimming pools and are particularly suitable for families. Culinary variety is the name of the game with "Crossroads" offering Western cuisine in an air-conditioned or al fresco setting while the Saffron Restaurant serves Thai and South East Asian specialties. You can also dine in your own villa - simply order from the a la carte menu or make a selection from the BBQ dinners cooked in front of your eyes. The new food and beverage outlet, "The Cove," is modern and up-tempo; Mediterranean cuisine is prepared here to perfection. ... more   less
