“Just Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2009

Booking the hotel was quite diff. I wanted to get a big room to fit in my family of 5 adults and 2 child. Emailed them to ask and was told that we could book their grand business suite which has 2 bedrooms. The price was great. Not too ex for a huge suite. But the hotel took quite some time to reply, so by the time we went to and fro with the emails, the room was already booked. (Btw, I couldn't find details of this room on their website.) Eventually I stopped emailing them and just booked myself 2 Junior suite rooms.

The hotel is quite a distance from the Batam Centre Ferry Terminal, but you can always arrange for a pick up (at a charge) or book a taxi from the terminal's ferry counter.

The rooms are great. Toilets are clean. Everything works fine. They have cable and free wifi. Sea view rooms are nothing fantastic. Well it's Batam I guess. Can't compare it to Bali or Maldives.

Facilities wise, gym is superbly equipped. Didn't have the chance to use the sauna but the pool is kinda small. Service was prompt and courteous and they provide a shuttle service 3 times daily to nearby malls.

Overall I'm quite happy with my stay here.

Have extended an extra night in Batam after a Brain-Storming Session from another Resort... Have booked 3 superior room for 3 of us (each a single room), however due to super peak session, free upgrade to a family suite for us. Overall impressed by the service of the hotel and the quality of the room. Spa service rated average but worth for the price.

I stay in Novotel on 18 Jul 2008 for 2 night. Got the non-smoking room at Level 4. The room are big & comfortable. There are a round dinning table, working table, sofa & a over-size king size bed.
The room are clean & the services are good. The staff are very friendly & the BBQ buffet dinner was excellent with nice music & good seafood.
There isn't much shopping nearby the hotel & you would have to pay about SGD3 - SGD4.50 for the taxi to bring you to the shoppping area.
We also try the seafood at Harbour Bay that is just 5 mins taxi ride away. Good & fresh too.

Just came back from Novotel Batam after a 4 days 3 nites stay there. Initially went there thinking that we would have a great time shopping around. Well, as for the shopping part, will gives details later after reviewing the hotel.

Arrived at the hotel from Batam Center at 2.30pm (Singapore Time; standard taxi charge of Rp 50.000 from terminal to novotel) and went straight to check in counter. Staffs there was kind and friendly to assist in the checking in. Got my key card and went straight to the room.

My first night stay was in the deluxe room. Room was comfortable and clean towels are available. 2nd & 3rd nites stay was in the executives room which was only about Rp100.000 different (ard SGD 16.17) from the deluxe room. It has a bigger room, (but toilet size is the same) and a balcony. It was suposingly to have a seaview from the balcony but the "seaview" has been blocked by a big building (new ship-look-alike hotel). So basicaly, not much of a value added for the Rp 100k spend there. If you are looking for a comfortable room, I suggest you take the deluxe room instead of the executive room.

Hot water is available but do let the water running for 10-20 second to flush out the dirty sediments in the pipes.

During our stay, we did went for the Relaxing Aromatherapy Massage at the hotel Spa Center. Well, basically I wont recommend it to any of my friend. The massage was more painful than relaxing and the masseur was really not that skillful and knowledgeable in the art of massaging. I had a much better massage session when i was staying in berjaya tioman.

Food in the restaurant was okay. However, having the same dishes for breakfast every morning make us loose all our appetite.

Overall, if you need cozy place to stay in batam, you may consider Novotel batam. However, I find batam island itself not much an interesting place to explore (everywhere you go, taxi fare tends to take a huge chunk out of your budget).

The Novotel is probably the best hotel if you need to stay in Nagoya (main township in Batam) for business. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean and comfortable (although the beds sag a little). The breakfast is adequate but gets very boring after a week! If you are staying on a Saturday night definitely have the seafood BBQ in the courtyard - great fresh seafood for under Rp.90,000.

There isn't a non-smoking floor in the hotel, only a series of non-smoking rooms on the third floor. You have to make your request early to ensure you get a non-smoking room. Make sure you tell staff that you don't want a room over the bar - it is extremely noisey at night. Don't bother bringing your swimsuit - the pool is almost impossible to find (you have to walk through the gym and up a flight of fire stairs to the indoor pool - very humid and smells of chlorine).

Previous reviewers have noted that the Novotel caters to the local sex industry. While this does occur, it is much less visible than the other hotels in town. The half-built Pacific Nightclub (across the road) is a popular site for the local freelancers, so you have to expect some flow across the road. Like many places in Batam, the Novotel backs on to an abandoned buiding site, so don't expect nice views.

The hotel has its own taxis which are a bit more expensive than local cabs but they provide a good service and can be hired by the hour/day. The road outside is not very safe at night, and the town isn't really designed for walking, so taxis are the best way to get around.

If you are looking for an Indonesian holiday then do your research first - Nagoya has a large number of KTV/brothel/bar businesses and shopping complexes. If you are looking for a resort-style getaway in Indonesia then don't stay at the Novotel in Nagoya. Batam has a number of resorts on the northern part of the island (Nongsa) or Waterfront City that you might like to choose from.

My friend from Europe wanted to make a quick hop to Indonesia so we booked ex-tempore trip from the harbour and as we intended to stay only for 1 night we wanted a hotel in the middle of the town so Novotel was a perfect choice.

Novotel hotel in all was a good choice: rooms were bit aged but clean and comfortable, TV-channel selection was good, there was coffee machine and water and breakfast was excellent. Also service in the hotel was good and friendly - not very professional at all times as e.g. buying stamps and postcards was impossible as there was not selection in the hotel and no-one had any idea about how to post aything to Europe or even to Singapore.

Hotel also has a good restaurant with live music - as it was very quiet there (only some business men besides us) band asked from us songs to be played and that was quite fun. Also food was good and prices reasonable (naturally it would have been much cheaper in the city but we were not too eager to go wondering around city in the dark as obviously western women were not very familiar sight there so we got much more attention than we wanted) - there was also nice looking night club in hotel but as it was full of western and/or Singaporean men and local women we thought that was not exactly a place for us either... So I definately would not recommend to visit Batam if you are woman and alone or just with another lady but if you need to visit there for some reason then Novotel is a good place.
