When a deal from Agoda came up at 29USD for a night’s stay at Novotel, my partner and I couldn’t resist booking it. This is despite the fact that we have just visited Batam a few months ago. For the price we paid, I think the hotel truly exceed my expectation.
Firstly, I really like the location as it sits near the HarbourBay Ferry Terminal which means I get to save on 2 way transports to nearby Harbourbay shopping mall. Although the hotel look aged on the exterior, it is well maintained in the interior. Interestingly, The Hotel Reception is at Level 2. It has a few restaurants, Bar, Pub and even a Polo shop. I particularly like the centre garden which is a nice place to sit down and relax. I got a level 3 King Size Executive Room that comes with a balcony. Nothing fantastic about the view but a plus point if you have a smoking partner and does not want him to smoke in the room. Overall the room is clean, clean linens, flat screen TV, glass, cups and teabags (no coffee, FYI). The room is well stocked with toiletries too. However, I am puzzled over why there is only one pair of slippers and toothbrush when the room is obviously meant for 2 people. Oversight by the chamber maids, I guess.
In the nutshell, I am pleased with my stay. Moreover the cheerful looking staff spoke much better English as compared to the other hotel we stayed earlier. I guess it is due to Novotel’s hotel image as a Business Class hotel. Both Check-in and Check-out was fuss free since we have repaid and did not consume anything.
The only unpleasant thing I have to say is that, after checkout, the hotel’s taxi driver quoted me Rp40000 for trip to Habourbay Ferry Terminal! It is only 10-15 minutes’ walk or 5 minutes drive. Since we have walked to the hotel from terminal earlier, we simply rejected this quote and walked instead.
Tips for walking to Novotel from Ferry Terminal:
Use Pacific Palace Hotel, a ship looking hotel as a landmark. It will take about 10 minutes walk from the Ferry Terminal. Once you reach its entrance, you will see Novotel at the opposite side of the road. As you will be walking along the road without pavements, do take extra note of motor vehicle driving pass as I heard of snatch thieves cases.
Beer are cheaper in HabourBay’s Carrefour than Nogoya’s Matahari
Make sure you catch the shuttle bus to Nogoya Hill which can help you to save a few dollars.
