“Uninspiring ..........”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2007

Spent Chinese New Year at the Harris in a Cabana room with my family. The room is clean and spacious with basic facilities and also includes a DVD player.

The facilities are good, clean and simple which adheres to their marketing although the resort fails to inspire. The pool is large and well laid out so for families it's great to relax by or swim in and the extra facilities such as indoor bowling alley, go karting (next door), cable skiing etc etc could keep any family busy for a weekend. It just seems to lack something. The staff are friendly although not really sure of what is required for a 4 star hotel. The restaurant food is OK but serves on plastic placemats and cheap cutlery. The breakfast is fairly basic although adequate. The hotel offers everything but nothing is of a high standard. The spa has cheap massages but the towels are stained and the staff just perform their job, the restaurant has a good selection of food but nothing terriby inspiring.

The hotel is 30 minutes from shopping (free shuttle), Batam has nothing to offer for shopping unless you want to save some money on basic goods. There is no beach to speak of and water sports are offered although not enticing.

Overall this hotel has tried very hard to offer a good standard of accommodation on a limited budget. Don't expect any extras or luxuries here, just a clean and friendly place to stay in Batam.

It is a nice place to relax and enjoy the sea sports. However, do not hold too high expectations especially on the standards of the hotel. It is a simple hotel without much luxury to talk about. The service of the staffs are good but you will have to speak in SIMPLE ENGLISH. Anyway they used to provide bedroom slippers for free, now they are charging SGD5 for each pair. Disappointing..what will they start charging separately next? The bed? The TV? The water boiler? Or the basin....? The bowling balls are dirty and I suggest that you bring a pair of gloves and I really mean DIRTY! The table tennis is of reasonable standard. The pool table cloth has a hole and the table is also VERY DIRTY~! I wonder if they service their amenities. In addition, their gym is just for SHOW. All their equipment are NOT WORKING especially those electronic ones and yet they kept the doors open for public use. *sigh* Like other reviews, the pool looks great but I haven't got the chance to try because I can't swim. And, the basketball court is small. I think it is for the primary school kids to play. So adults please take note of it. The billiard/snooker room STINKS and the air is stale. Visit it if you don't believe me but do bring or wear a mask. The Japanese restaurant inside Harris is ok. The foods are edible and the portions are also reasonable. However, the taste is another issue and the sashimi my friend had ordered are FROZEN. *hahaha* Breakfast is satisfactory but the variety is limited. For people who are choosy, I suggest you to bring your own can food. The hotel provides games such as poker cards, monopoly, mahjong and scrabble, however, some of them comes with a cost and there is only one set of mahjong available at any one time. The rooms are not carpeted therefore you have to bring your ownbedroom slippers if you are particular. Else, be prepared to spend $5 on the Harris Slippers like I mentioned above. The toilets are ok considering that I am a person who can't stand dirt. There are a variety of cable channels available for those couch potatoes to watch.

  • Liked — I can play Go-Kart there which is just few minutes away.
  • Disliked — I have to pay for bedroom slippers at SGD5 per pair.
  • Tips/Secrets — Learn Bahasa Indonesian language. The people there have poor competency in English.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2006

I stayed over at Harris with my wife during the first weekend in November. Based on the price I paid, I wasn't expecting much, but to my pleasant surprise, it was a delightful experience.

The Harris employees were helpful and courteous, from the receptionist to the general manager himself.

The room was spacious and plenty of good channels on tv (ESPN for the football fanatics, MTV and the news channels like BBC)

The free form pool was very clean and big enough for everyone. Pity that the jacuzzi wasn't working very well though.

The live band was also marvelous, belting out manadarin and dialect songs even.

On my next trip, I'd certainly like to stay at Harris again, but perhaps, I'd try the Harris Cabanas, which look spanking new and posh.

However, i must caution that while Harris is very near the Waterfront city ferry terminal, it is quite some distance away from Nagoya town, so u need to travel a bit for shopping.

Overall, very good value for money for that quick getaway.

Stayed at Harris for just one night over the weekend and was sorely disappointed. We booked the cabana rooms which were suppose to face the beach but frankly it's not worth it. The toilet's have glass doors so unless you are a couple, don't stay in those rooms. The rooms were very new but still had an awful stench that even their aromatheraphy oils couldn't get rid of.

The pool is pretty decent, but I was utterly shocked that they ran out of towels in the afternoon and it never got replenished. What kind of beach resort runs out of towels? Gosh!

Breakfast was yet another sore point as the selection was so tiny. The cereal variety was limited to only 2 and the coffee was so diluted it could have passed off as water. Though it cost SGD$8, you're better off waiting for lunch.h

Service was average and they did grant us a late checkout of 4pm which was a nice touch. The spa is pretty popular and slots are fill up fast. You had better call ahead to book a slot.

My company had a company retreat thingy in this resort hotel in Aug 2006.
I like the rooms, they are spacious and have a balcony each.
But the toilet isn't that nice...it was clean but the shower curtain was a little torn at the side and the towels were stained.
The food at the cafe was so so but the staff were friendly and attentive.
Love the poolside restaurant at nite when they have a live band.
The resort hotel is near to the ferry terminal and they have a mini van to transport u to the terminal.
There is also a tiny Polo Ralph shop at the lobby (next to the cafe) and the prices are really cheap.
It's not imitation Polo Ralph but the clothes there are made for the Indonesian market only.

  • Liked — The location
  • Disliked — Hmm, the cafe food
