“Nice resort for short getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

Just came back with my friend for a 3 days 2 nights getaway from Holiday Inn. We booked a suite room and shutter was provided to and fro from ferry terminal. Check-in was fast and efficient and we asked for a twin bed room if that's possible. The receptionist informed us that there is a king size bed, 2 twin bed rooms. At first my friend and I were surprised to hear that as we only required a bedroom for just the two of us. Then we checked with them was there an error in booking, the receptionist doesnt speak fluent english and was trying his level best to tell us that the room we booked wasnt available and therefore they upgraded us to a bigger suite.
The room was clean and spacious with a huge sofa and balcony overlooking the pool although the furniture a bit old.
The swiming pool is huge and the layout is nice, the kid's pool comes with a slide and a playground by the side.
The breakfast spread was good but the food quality just alright. The F& B team greeted us with a warm welcome and asked if we would like a cup of coffee or tea. The plates were cleared and it would be nice to offer to top up the coffee or tea at the same time instead of we requested it as it was only a few tables occupied.

The shutter to the Nagoya Hill mall on weekdays only one and 3 on weekends. We didnt take the shutter provided and took taxi there instead. The fare was rupiah 110,000 around SGD14 one way. We spent around 3 hours there the 1st day and signed up for spa packages nearby the mall for the next day at 12pm. The taxi driver was friendly, punctual and reliable.
On the second day, we asked for a taxi from the hotel to send us to the spa centre by 12pm. In knowing that we will spend quite awhile for our treaments and will be done by 6pm. The taxi driver was telling us he could be on 'standby' for us and he asking for the price of SGD50. We told him that we dont need that 'cause after the spa, we will head for dinner and by then it should be around 8pm so we could just call for the taxi to send us back. After awhile he brought that up again, and we both felt agitated and thought may be it could be he doesnt understand english well. When we arrived, we tried to explain to him in simple bahasa that we know so he doesnt have to wait for us outside the spa and once we're done, we will just call the resort.
By then, when we cofirmed and made payment for the spa, we realised that he was still waiting outside for us. To AVOID miscommunication,we had to seek the help of the spa staff to do translation for us.
This is the matter that we would like the resort to look into. We were wondering was he doing that for his own profit or based on Holiday Inn taxi term and regulations because no matter what he's driving a Holiday Inn taxi.
When we came back to the hotel and confirmed our shutter when we check out. The front desk staff were friendly, polite and service with a smile and even to give us a call to our room and ask how's everything, is the room alright and the service.

We were impressed that the Holiday Inn staff are excellent from front desk, to F&B, housekeeper (respected guests privacy) gave us a call when we forgot to take off the D-N-D sign 'cause we asked for extra bottles of water.
During check-out, the shutter driver informed us that we could take the nearer ferry terminal instead of the further one. He offered to send us to the terminal and guided us to the right counter for check-in.

We hope that Holiday Inn will keep up the excellent job and would like the resort to look into the taxi, transportation matter because the reputation of the resort should not be affected because of it.

Well, I must say it was a very pleasant stay at Holiday Inn Resort Batam, and it's a good place to hang out for everyone. =)

Best Regards.

The kids loved the rooms as we stayed in a 2bedroom suite. They also loved the pool very much. Very clean. Nice breakfast but not excellent. Problem is the location. can't understand if it is hillside or waterfront but it's in the middle of nowhere. So there's nowhere else you can go nearby. Overall good hotel and great stay!

Have always been travelling to Holiday Inn every year with my family. We've been looking at the management changing yearly which is a little sad since the past management was really friendly and we were all acquainted with them :)
Glad to say that I'll be coming here again this month :)
Just a little feedback, please improve on the wifi service at the lobby & especially the lounge area, wifi at the lounge area is really bad. Please also put more wifi services in more areas, especially rooms (For hp usage)
Please also improve on the room aircon services.

Overall, I love Holiday Inn cos of the staff friendliness, the breakfast buffet and the free shuttle services to malls.
Good job Holiday Inn! :)

Many people have stayed at this resort because of its accessibility and its family theme, which sees large families visiting mostly on weekends.
Just 45 minutes away from Singapore by a ferry, it is well-maintained and pretty lush, living up to the Holiday Inn identity.

The rooms are huge and come with a balcony that overlooks a huge pool, and the scenery at night is beautiful.
There are many food choices at the restaurant and room service is excellent.

Of course, they have the renowned Tea Tree Spa which provides for a wonderful spa and massage experience to round up your weekend vacation.

I really like this resort but there is nothing much to do on this part of the island, and the nearest sea sports facility is about 10 mins away at another resort...

So unless you have a good deal for a night's stay and plan to go into town for some shopping, I would not recommend.

The hotel was well-laid out, pleasant, a little old but generally well-maintained. We stayed there in March so it wasn't crowded at all - we only saw a few other people around. The people working there were very friendly and accommodating, so props to them! The rooms were big, the beds were comfy, the only minor things we noticed would be that the air conditioners tended to be a bit old so they were a little noisy, and the hot water only lasted for two showers (but not two showers and a soak in the tub!)

Food-wise, it was pretty pricey (compared to Batam standards, expect to pay around 40SGD for a meal for two) and the food wasn't all that great. You can get better food if you go out there and explore!

However, the biggest drawback about the hotel is its location. It's situated in the Waterfront Area of Batam...which was supposed to have been developed as a seasports area but has since been abandoned. As a result, there's nothing much to do or see around the hotel. We ventured out to the Harris Sea Sports Club (about five minutes away by car) but there was really nothing much to do besides kayak. (The banana boat's engine was spoilt, they only had 1 working ATV...but we decided to skip that). Also not much dining options except at the hotel. They do have shuttle buses out to Nagoya Hills (3 times on the weekends and once on weekdays) but there's nothing much else to do besides chill out at the hotel.

I guess if I went without the expectation of a branded resort, perhaps I wouldn't be disappointed.

Let's begin with a positive note. In general, the staffs were friendly. The spa provided at the resort was really good and relaxing. My friend and I enjoyed the spa session very much. Though it may be more costly but it is worth the money spent.
The swimming pool is good for both adults and children. A good place to just relax and suntan.

Now, comes to the disappointment....

On the first night that we had arrived, the aircon in the master bedroom was not working. We tried calling the room service hotline but nobody picked up despite calling several times. Thus, my friend and I decided to sleep in the children's room where there were 2 single beds. (we were upgraded to a family suite due to room shortage) We ended up having backache the next day. =( The following day, we went to the counter and requested for the aircon to be fixed. Thankfully it was done promptly. However, despite setting the aircon temperature to 17 degrees, the room is still warm. Guess aircon maintenance needs to be done.

Throughout my 3D2N stay, almost all the bath towels have stains on it. That is really not something I expect from a well known resort. =(

Finally, it comes to the food hygiene part which is the most disappointing of all. We had buffet dinner in the hotel. There is a fried noodles section where you could choose your own ingredients and the chef would prepared it for you. I was going to pick some beansprouts but to my horror, the beansprouts were rotten! And at the fruits corner, there were flies hovering around and some were even on the fruits. I understand that this is Batam and I shouldn't have too much expectations. But the basic hygiene standard should be met at the very least.

There were also 2-3 cats walking around in the hotel compound during dinner time and I saw one of them eating fish bones which i wondered where it got from.

I would love to visit Holiday Inn again because of the Spa. But to stay overnight, I might have to consider.

Dear huiqi84,

Thank you for your feedback and for choosing our hotel. It is pleasing to know that you found our staff to be friendly and the spa services lived up to expectations. However, I regret the inconvenience you may have had with your room and if the dining experience was sub standard. Your comments will be shared with the hotel's management and appropriate action will be taken to rectify these unsatisfactory circumstances.

While we understand that your stay was not 100% satisfactory, we would hope that you would give us another chance to make your stay as best as it can be.

Been to batam a couple of times and had always stayed in different hotels.

Holiday Inn Resort was ok only during my stay in Feb 2013. Given it was Chinese New Year Period I expected the place to be packed but though it was, I am glad there are rooms for everyone.

The shuttle bus service to the major shopping malls were great and I overheard some guests were saying they did not know that they need to book before the trip.

The spread for breakfast was normal and ok also. Adequate for me and my family.

The pool were great for the kids and they had a good time.

The massage parlour within the hotel was much more expensive than the ones we had gone to in Nagoya Hills. And they also provide free transport.

Rooms was good and one of the reasons why I had chosen Holiday Inn Resort was simply they had a 2 bedroom suite and is extremely near to Waterfront terminal.

Wifi is USELESS and cannot even connect even when I m at the lobby and was told to go to the sports bar and its the same. But I guess it is good and so we DISconnect to get connected with our families during this family trip.

And for those using the shuttle service, if u are waiting for the transfer from the mall back to Holiday Inn at the mall, try to be there EARLY and not get conned by some of the drivers there telling u ur shuttle (transfer) had left and pay them to send u back.

Though abit disappointed with how the hotel had looked like given it names, I am still pleased to have had stayed there this Feb 2013.

Staff service were pretty ok and all speaks pretty good english other than the one clearing the plates. And most I met were constantly wearing a smile and never stingy with their greetings.

Room Tip: Try to hve the higher floors or not facing the pool if u are worried abt noise.
