“Relaxing weekend at holiday inn Batam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2011

Stayed 1 night at this hotel. The check in counter was crowded, however with the friendly staff at the reception, the wait was well worth it. While waiting for our turn to check in, the staff at the hotel offered orange juice to guests waiting for their turn. A nice touch of service. The check in staff was very helpful and friendly and we were assigned the room that we had requested for in little effort.

The room we stayed in (king size studio) was huge! it has an area for couch and a king size bed. though the balcony was a tad small compared to the rest, however we had a quiet corner room to trade for the small-ish balcony, which i thought was well worth it.

The pool was fantastic, great place for relax and lazing the day away. Though the staff at Terrace Cafe could had done more to serve the guests. Half the time they were spotted chatting away with each other, rather then being attentive to guests who needed a seat or those by the pool who wanted to order some munchies. We had to go up to them and get the menu (which they gave us the food menu rather then drinks menu) and went up to them again to get our order. This was a great contrast from the service we have gotten earlier at the reception. The same treatment happened to us while we were having our lunch the next day. The chatty staff (Who were chatting amongst themselves), were more interested in their conversation then paying attention to patrons who want to order food or get the bill. We had to walk up to them almost everytime.

The spa was fantastic and the masseuse were attentive, gentle and very welcoming. totally had a great relaxing time being pampered by their skillful massaging skills.

overall it was a pleasant stay, though the staff at Terrace Cafe could have been more attentive to patrons.

went there for a company's family day. location was remote and quiet but the staffs were pretty friendly and helpful. (service with a smile!) wifi avaliable in lobby but is hard to detect at times. the lift in my block was SUPER SLOW! ended up we had to climb the stairs.

spacious room with bathtub. neat and cosy.

breakfast was splendid. (:

Room Tip: can opt for pool view as the other side is just an abandon land.

15mins walk from Waterfront ferry terminal, but pickup service is available, 2-3mins drive. I suppose due to priorityclub membership, on top of the late checkout offer they were having, was surprised to be upgraded to a suite upon checkin. Suite had 2 bedrooms and a living room, so my friend and i left one room empty throughout our stay, quite wasted lol. Thank all the staff who responded to my emails and who upgraded us to a comfortable room, and I think all rooms have good view facing the pool too.

Food was okay, we had the teppanyaki and terrace food, both located by the pool. There was a flying cockcroach at teppanyaki tho since there are gaps in the wooden flooring, But the staff kindly and expertly swiped it with one blow and disposed of it. There's also a convenience store near the lobby if u want to purchase snacks.

Facilities above the lobby are so-so, I didn't try the spa. The area behind the hotel blocks (near the spa) is funny rugged. Garden of plants drying up and an unused toilet bowl sitting there, wonder why they don't maintain it.

Staff are very smiley and perky.

We LOVE Holiday Inn @ Batam! It's my second stay and this time, I went with my hubby and 2 children. My 1st was 2 years back with my 3 sisters and we went there just for the spa, which was good. This time, it's spa with hubby and pure relaxing moments with the kids.

I love it that this resort is nestled far away from everything else. Some say it's just too ulu (deserted)...town so far away (30mins) and no other activities to do. No beach front, no water sports, etc. But if you're looking for just relaxation by the pool, movies/tv and snacks in the room, lounging around with a drink in your hand, great spa treatments........Holiday Inn is the place to be for a short getaway from busy Singapore

My kids love the pool and the amazing 'scary' slide at the kiddy pool. It's scary to me 'cos the big slide is initially gradual and dips pretty steeply nearing the end. Woo! My heart skips to my brain each time! And you'll be spoilt for choices when it comes to the tv programs. So many channels and so little time for tv! You can even catch your local shows on 5, 8 or U!

And of course, how can you not enjoy the award winning Tea Tree spa when you're there? The private villa for each treatment, the quiet and natural surroundings, the bamboos surrounding the villas swaying gently in the breeze, the sounds of birds and crickets (and a lizard or two).........no air-conditioning, gentle hands massaging your body with slow expert movements, no rush, no chatter......pure bliss. The therapists that I've encountered all showed great skills and professionalism and they gave me the sense that they really enjoyed their work, taking their time to give you quality treatments. Unless spa treatments in Singapore, where I feel most therapists are merely just doing their jobs and earning their living. Worse still, everything seems rushed.

At Tea Tree, when a treatments says 2 hrs, it starts almost immediately and ends 2 hrs later. You don't feel short-changed. No 15min intro, 15min tea drinking, then treatment, then another 15mins calming down, 15mins tea drinking! Know what I mean?

Staff of the hotel are mostly friendly and helpful. Some may be a little slow in responding to your requests, but they always accede with a friendly smile and positive attitude. Hey, they are working hard to serve all guests afterall, so a little patience on our part as guests goes a long way to make the relationship a pleasant one :)

I agree with reviewers here that prices are steep in the restaurants. Dinner at the Teppanyaki Restaurant can easily set you back S$50 a head. But I can only say it's cos the food is of a certain level of quality. We had scallops so fresh, prawns so succulent, steak so juicy and to top it all...fantastic service staff.....it's value for money. The restaurant closes at 10pm, but as we reached it only at about 945pm, the whole place with 2 chefs and 2 wait staff served us (and another lone diner) till about 1130pm! Wow, impressive!

One word of advice : don't expect the same quality service during peak seasons. My 1st visit was during the National Day holiday in Singapore. My recent stay was during the weekday...a school/work week. Vast differences! For this trip, ferry tickets were purchased just hours before boarding (had to book weeks in advance), no jostling crowd (was super crowded everywhere), speedy check-in and late check-out (expect queues when checking in and no late check-outs), almost empty pool (too many screaming kids in pool), great restaurant service during breakfast, lunch, dinner (we couldn't even get a decent table during breakfast!)...we felt like royalties this time round! Hahahaha.......

Will definitely return simply for the spa treatments (but of course, during a work week if possible!)

p/s : If you want lots of shopping, cheap food, lots to see and do...Holiday Inn @ Batam is not for you :)

We stayed here with for one day and find out that the hotel was actually quite good eventhough the surrounding is very "remote". I myself like the pool arrangement, obviously my kid liked it too. It is a kind of place that is suitable for whoever want to stay relaxing in resort and did not want to come to Batam city. Distance to Batam city is quite far, The view is very good, the room is big but the food is quite pricey. I suggest if you want to eat, better just go out to the many restaurants in the seaside. In my experience, this is the best Holiday Inn hotel ever I have stayed before.

Again if you just want to just have relaxing time in resort (no need to go to Batam city), this is the one !!!

Room Tip: Choose room that face to pool and Batam city in same time.
