“Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

Spent a comfortable three days at the ihotel. Only drawback was the faint lingering odor of bug spray. On the plus side, did not see one insect while there. Room was clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Short, open, well-lit walkway to Nagoya Hill Shopping Center, where there is also a Hypermart for those necessities you may have forgotten to pack for the trip.

Appreciated the security at the hotel, as I was there by myself each day while husband was at work. Got a nice scalp massage and shampoo at a spa and shopped for reasonably priced souvenirs at the mall.

Enjoyed the variety on the breakfast buffet, especially the outstanding selection of breads at the toasting station. In case the regular buffet was not enough to satisfy, there were waffles and omelets made to order.

All in all, a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Our room faced the back courtyard which was not very attractive, so if you prefer a picturesque view...

Recent stay with husband. Would have given much better rating had I not been stifled by the thick mildew stench through the night!
Pros - rapid and early check in, nice staff
Cons - highly perfumed smell in non smoking room when first entered which I now realise was to hide the thick mildew smell waking me in the middle of the night unable to breath properly! If ur asthmatic I would not choose this hotel. Windows don't open and there is no airflow at all. I believe it was coming from the air con so even turning that up made things worse. Wifi although included drops out constantly in room. Simple amenities pool nice but no sun loungers to sit on so can't relax at all.

Check-in was a breeze, took us less than 10 min. Hotel lobby looks grand but marred by the fact that guest are allowed to smoke in the lobby.

We were given a room on the 6th floor, facing the field and where the rows of motorcycles parked. At night, we could hear people chatting at the carpark . The room was clean but showing signs of aging. The bed was not comfortable and pillow was too soft. We were woken up in the wee hour of the morning by the prayer call from the nearby mosque, followed by the loud sound of somebody using the shower in the room next to us.

The pool which in my opinion is a little small but the gym seems well equipped with lots of machines. We also went to look at the spa. It has nice ambience but again, it too is showing signs of aging, we noticed paint peeling off on some walls. Price-wise is slightly more costly as compared to The Spa Secret but with the quiet ambience, I think its worth paying. The Spa Secret was just way too noisy to enjoy the services. When the staff was not handling guests, they were busy chatting loudly among themselves. I did pedicure. Good service but choice of nail colours was very limited. My friend did foot reflexology and he too complained that he could hear guests’ conversations clearly when they were showering in the next room.

The only plus point for this hotel is that its near the shopping mall.

The location of the hotel is locate beside Nagoya Hill Shopping Centre. It comes with the basic facilities like a hotel. Each floor of the hotel and the room we stay look grander than the hotel lobby. The room size is moderate. The room does come with television and safe deposit box. The hotel has an elevator. The staffs are friendly. The hotel comes with free wifi. Need to give a deposit. The room come with breakfast. A good resting and relaxing place. Chose a room facing the road as it is also where the swimming pool is facing.

Room Tip: Chose a room facing the road as it is also where the swimming pool is facing.

Stayed in Ihotel over the weekends. We arrived at about 11am (batam time) and was allowed a fuss-free early check-in. The hotel room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The room provides an extra pillow and a bolster, which I find was a big plus as not many hotels provide bolsters. The free wifi was a plus too, and connectivity was good. The bathroom is clean, provide us with neccessary basic toiletries and the water pressure was perfect; but could do better with provide facial tissues and also face towels (they only provide shower towels). The breakfast provided is moderate, with an egg section and local food (nasi lemak, porridge), but could do better with the intercontinental selection. There's a small jacuzzi near the pool area which is lovely.

The hotel is at an excellent location, only 3-5 mins walk away from Nagoya Hills shopping mall. Lots of eateries and massage shops could be found around there, hence could save on transportation. The hotel quoted me Rp.80000 for transportation from Batam Centre Ferry Terminal, which I only paid Rp.50000 for the cab I board from at the ferry terminal itself. However on the return journey, they got me a cab that runs on metre, and the cost adds up close to Rp.50000 anyways.

Hotel standards in Batam are generally not the highest in the region but the I-Hotel has to definitely be one of the better ones. I'm not so accustomed to the breakfasts in this part of the world as to me it seems like the meals are all back to front so I don't think it will be fair to comment on what I thought of it, but there was definitely a lot of choice!

The rooms are clean and tidy. I-hotel is smack bang in the middle of town which is ideal if you wan to walk around. I would highly recommend booking one of the rear facing rooms if you have problems with getting to sleep as the street noise can be a problem if you have one of the forward facing rooms.

Room Tip: chose a rear facing room if street noise is generally an issue for you.

Location is great: less than 5 minutes walk to the Nagoya Hill shopping mall via the shortcut at the back of the hotel. The shortcut is a proper foot path that is brightly lit at night. A security guard patrols the shortcut at night.

Good security: security guards check every vehicle coming into the hotel compound. Lift access is controlled by room card.

Nice clean room: the room that I stayed in looks like it has been refurbished recently. Room is clean and I didn't see any cockroaches as mentioned in other reviews. There is an electronic safe, refrigerator, hair dryer and kettle in the room. Basic toiletries like shampoo, shower gel, tooth brush, tooth paste, shower cap, comb and slippers are provided. Mini bar (2 bottles of drinks and a pack of nuts) and 2 bottles of mineral water are complementary.

Price: booked the hotel through hotels.com and paid 106 SGD for one night (weekday). Hotel requested for 300,000 IDR or 50 SGD deposit at check in and refunded it at check out. Buffet breakfast for 2 is included in the price. The breakfast spread is average.

Transportation: the nearest ferry terminal is Harbour Bay. I believe only Berlian Ferries Wavemaster from Harbour Front in Singapore serves this terminal. Return ferry fare is $48 per person (all inclusive). The taxi drivers at Harbour Bay wanted 50,000 IDR for the ride to the hotel. On my return trip, The hotel helped me to call for a metered taxi to the ferry terminal and the fare was only 38,000 IDR.

Others: The Hills Hotel is across I Hotel but looks run down. There is no pedestrian crossing to Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall from The Hills Hotel so one would have to dash across the main road, which is very busy, in order to get to the mall. Spa Secret is located beside The Hills Hotel.
