“Good for a night rest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

Stayed 1 night over at this hotel.

Staff service was excellent.

Bell man helped us in fetching a good price for taxi.

Breakfast buffet was average. But the soya milk was pretty nice.

Toilet was ok but got a hard time trying to figure out how to flush the toilet bowl.. well, at least there is water heater.. so after all, not so bad..

Room was ok and big.

Location was good. Very near to the Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall.

Overall I have a enjoyable night at the hotel but bad experience with the ferry as I nearly can't go home due to full seating. Just a piece of advice for those planning to go batam, try to take those ferry that you tried before and not others. Also try to reserve an advance return tickets upon reaching instead of waiting till that day.

“Formosa Hotel Batam, Indonesia”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2012

Stayed 3 nights. Old hotel somewhat retrofitted. 5 minute walk from Nagoya Shopping Mall. 15 minute taxi ride from Harbour Bay Ferry Terminal (Average IDR40,000). Ciggie smell quite strong. They got our phone booking mixed up but fortunately managed to remedy it. Spacious room, choice of two single beds or one king bed. Dismayed to discover room window faced a cement wall. Bedsheet, bathroom decently clean but not fantastic. Happy I didn't itch from the 2 nights in that room. However, could spot leftover hair here and there. Small fridge, hair dryer provided.

For 3rd night, we asked to change to a room with a view (not that great a view anyway but at least sunlight filtered in!) & big mistake for me. Even though the room was newly made up the bedsheet had a big yellow stain right smack in the middle (too tired from shopping to ask for a change) & tiny hair was all over the bed. Itched the whole night in that bed! Breakfast was a decent spread; largely local fair. Assorted bread dipped in curry was super tasty!

Why I would come back here to stay again is because @ SGD60/night, it's value for money & it makes for easy access to Nagoya Shopping Mall (which in my humble opinion, is better than the other malls in Batam we'd been to). Plenty of eateries, massage parlours, spas nearby (plenty of potholes too). Have stayed in better hotels but they were beach resorts & located far from the shopping belt. So it depends on what you're there for.

Hotel has Alishan KTV with big rooms, fair choice of English songs but drinks as expected were pricier. Guess waiter wasn't too happy we only ordered Coke as it arrived warm with no ice! There is an inhouse massage parlour. Didn't try but did go check out the rooms. Looked clean and like all the rest. Option to call for room massage.

Have to cross a small road and 2 busier roads to reach Nagoya Shopping Mall (the locals just walk even when the cars are headed their way! It's a pain crossing these 2 roads. Requires a special skill & not advisable for parents with very young kids). A zebra crossing is there but the vehicles don't care much for it!

Value for money hotel. Good location, quiet enough but no sea view. Not a resort so no entertainment for kids. Room wifi password available from reception desk.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view or you might end up with a window facing a cement wall.

“Rating for formosa hotel batam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

LOCATION: Extremely convenient, just have to cross a main road to get to nagoya shopping centre. (If i may add, the road is treacherous). It is at the right location, not too near the shopping centre but not too far. Which means that it is pretty quiet.

ROOMS: Was pleasantly surprised at how big the room was. I got a pretty big corner room for 70 per night. think they upgraded me for free as i booked online(through agoda). However, upon inspection, i found that there was a blood stain on the bedsheet. Got it changed. No big deal, just thought you guys should know. Also, i found a cockroach on my last night there. But overall, the room was pretty good. The shower head had some slight problem. Also, for some weird reason they were unable to provide us with a bathtub stopper. (weird). Bed was enormous. I think it was a king sized bed instead of a queen sized bed. hahah

RECEPTION: Duty manager was extremely helpful and friendly during check in. Let us check in 4 hours earlier with no extra charges(kudos to them!) However, upon check out there was a slight misunderstanding about the cup noodle. They said there was supposed to be one in the room, but we didnt see any. During check out, they asked us about it but we denied even seeing it cause it wasnt there. After awhile, they just let us go off. They should check their minibar more carefully.

TRANSPORT FROM HOTEL: Formosa hotel have several taxis and they are pretty safe. Just ask security guard or the front desk and they will get u a taxi. 50,000 rupiah to batam centre. A little more expensive but safer.

BREAKFAST: Extremely good, lots of variety to choose from. They even have tempura hahahaha.

All in all, felt that it was pretty good. will definitely go back there if i ever go back to batam.

“Batam holiday experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2012

Stayed at this Hotel for one night on Vesak Day, Sat 5 May 2012, for the 2nd time.
My rating of the hotel are as follows :-

LOCATION : very strategic and centralised. About 200 metres to Nagoya Hill Shopping Centre where Matahari is located. You can get all your office clothes, ties, socks and shoes here.
Transport : It cost you Rp to get a taxi from the new Harbour Bay. But you must take the taxi outside the carpark where the check counter is located. Inside the carpark the taxi driver will ask for Rp 45,000. The Hotel is located along the main road and it is very convenient to get a cab. Do not take the cab from the lobby.
FOOD : Eating places are spread all round the hotel. There are 3 - 4 nasi Padang shops around. However, you need to walk and ask around to find them. One Nasi Padang shop is located just across the hotel lobby. They serve original Padang dishes ( rice and gravies at your order ) and lunch for 4 is around Rp 70 - 80,000 - much cheaper than in Jakarta or Bandung.
FACILITIES : There is a ladies hair saloon outside the hotel lobby. A hair cut cost us Rp 55,000. If you do a special treatment and head massage it would be RP 75,000 ( inclusive of the haircut ). Alot of spas, massage places and pubs around Nagoya Hill. If you walk a short distance away to the right side and towards the wet market area, there are plenty of shops including coffee shops catering Chinese food, More spa and pubs can be found here. But it is a bit dark at night.
HOTEL : The hotel is old but the rooms are newly renovated. Hovever, all the wooden furniture and panels have gone and new appealing designed laminated surfaces have been replaced for the beds and furnitures. However, there is a lingering smell of cigarettes in the room.
But somehow the hotel is always full and be prepared to be turned away if you did not book in advance. The price includes free breakfast for two. The spread is more than adequate - complete with bread and pastries and also the egg station. For breakfast , I had sharksfin soup ( look alike ), sweet sour fish, oregano fresh loaf ( sliced your own share ) and spead with peanut butter and honey with some keropok belinjau ( Indonesian seed crackers). You can wash it down with hot beverage or chilled orange juice.
STAFF : They are always always smiling and attentive to your needs.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window so that you see the sunlight.
