Stayed at this Hotel for one night on Vesak Day, Sat 5 May 2012, for the 2nd time.
My rating of the hotel are as follows :-
LOCATION : very strategic and centralised. About 200 metres to Nagoya Hill Shopping Centre where Matahari is located. You can get all your office clothes, ties, socks and shoes here.
Transport : It cost you Rp to get a taxi from the new Harbour Bay. But you must take the taxi outside the carpark where the check counter is located. Inside the carpark the taxi driver will ask for Rp 45,000. The Hotel is located along the main road and it is very convenient to get a cab. Do not take the cab from the lobby.
FOOD : Eating places are spread all round the hotel. There are 3 - 4 nasi Padang shops around. However, you need to walk and ask around to find them. One Nasi Padang shop is located just across the hotel lobby. They serve original Padang dishes ( rice and gravies at your order ) and lunch for 4 is around Rp 70 - 80,000 - much cheaper than in Jakarta or Bandung.
FACILITIES : There is a ladies hair saloon outside the hotel lobby. A hair cut cost us Rp 55,000. If you do a special treatment and head massage it would be RP 75,000 ( inclusive of the haircut ). Alot of spas, massage places and pubs around Nagoya Hill. If you walk a short distance away to the right side and towards the wet market area, there are plenty of shops including coffee shops catering Chinese food, More spa and pubs can be found here. But it is a bit dark at night.
HOTEL : The hotel is old but the rooms are newly renovated. Hovever, all the wooden furniture and panels have gone and new appealing designed laminated surfaces have been replaced for the beds and furnitures. However, there is a lingering smell of cigarettes in the room.
But somehow the hotel is always full and be prepared to be turned away if you did not book in advance. The price includes free breakfast for two. The spread is more than adequate - complete with bread and pastries and also the egg station. For breakfast , I had sharksfin soup ( look alike ), sweet sour fish, oregano fresh loaf ( sliced your own share ) and spead with peanut butter and honey with some keropok belinjau ( Indonesian seed crackers). You can wash it down with hot beverage or chilled orange juice.
STAFF : They are always always smiling and attentive to your needs.
