This place is in a serious downward spiral with obvious management reluctance to spend any decent amount of money besides a new coat of paint in an attempt to gloss over 10, 20? years of use.
How would they ever hope to make any money out of this is a mystery.
The pipes are just about rusted through and good for folks who are looking for serious iron supplementation/poisoning in their drinking water. Solution is to run taps at full blast for half an hour. You really can't blame the housekeeping staff. It is their senior management who deserves the broom stick. I will gladly hold them by the neck and make them drink that water. See if they like it a single bit. Well we do provide complimentary drinking water, they cried. Well, put them in the shower and see if they like being dirtier and smelling of rust and iron. Some of the sink piping are choked and you will get a basin full of rust water for whatever enjoyment the senior Sijori management seems to think you need.
Air conditioning is on its last legs. The compressors are all rusted through and needless to say, they don't work, unless you are one of the lucky ones. It usually takes what, 8, 10 years for them to reach that condition and the real heroes there are the air con tech staff who work with only screwdrivers and hammers. Not that I give them any credit beyond that. They are supposed to make sure air conditioning units are in working condition before guests arrive, not after.
The swimming pool. Yes. Cleanliness. Well. Obviously they do not have the staff to clean the pool besides simply pumping water in. Dirt, sediments at the bottom of the pool, milky murky still water just waiting to give anyone a vicious skin infection. Do not swim in the pool. Do not touch the water. If it gets in your eye, see a doctor immediately.
The reception desk. Be very careful. If you are lucky, you get what is expected. If you meet someone else...you have to be very, very careful. You may be better off calling a batam taxi driver / company yourself.
Mosquitoes - this is a place where you need to bring heavy duty insect repellent. It's probably a miracle that dengue fever, malaria and other such fun assorted diseases are not rife yet.
Restaurant? - We escaped to Nagoya for all meals. Not taking chances with food poisoning.
At least the beds are made, clean and did not give us bed bugs. But given the way they store their extra beds and mattresses, I am really surprised and remain wondering to this very day. It must be magic.
Telephone. Fun. Wrong telephones in rooms leading to folks calling the wrong room all the time and pissing people off, phones mysteriously get switched off at night / early morning, leading to folks having to bang loudly on doors and waking everyone up. Just love involuntary morning calls.
Fortunately nothing went missing. Not anything important to lose anyway. I keep my passport, wallet and all valuables on me at all times.
You know it is bad when even your batam taxi driver suggested a better place to stay.
Sad, sad place run by some out of touch and foolish management who thinks they can build a business model out of this.
