“Bad service and Chargable Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2010

The first day of my hotel is pleasant as we have out meeting in the conference room. It is pretty decent.
At night, their disco music is too loud that we can even hear it from 5th level. If you still want to choose this hotel or if you don't have any other choice, get a higher level.
The last day of my hotel stay, I have requested to extend my room for 30 minutes to 1 hour as my transport will be there slightly later. They told me they will need to charge me for it. All the other hotel trip that I have been to is able to extend the hotel stay by up to 2-3 hours for the guest to arrange for their transportation, air flight or ferry ride.
Since they are unable to let me extend, I borrowed their phone to call my driver (local batam call) to pick me up earlier. Which they also need to charge me for making local call. The reception told me $3,000 rupiah for 1 min, which I have definitely make it less than 1 min. And they wanted to charge me $12,000 rupiah for it. I told them that it is suppose to be $3,000 rupiah and why did it change to $12,000 rupiah. After 5 minutes they said it is $6,000 rupiah. I demand them to pass me a copy of the time sheet to justify my call time, which they take forever.

Overall I would say that this hotel provide bad service that keep charging people for unnecessary stuff which other hotel did not.
And also my colleague asked for a wooden pencil which they require him to return back. They give away pen to tourist but require a pencil back. That is the kind of service I'm talking about.
Not to forget that there are roaches in the hotel room.

People smoking in the hotel lobby is a big turn-off. You don't want to be greeted with a cloud of smoke upon arrival. Nobody told us we needed to use Room Key to access our floors in the lift. It would have saved us some time. The hallways have a weird damp smell.
The rooms are basic. Good large Plasma TV though. Bathrooms are very small. Towels smell funny. Breakfast staff is not well-trained to cope with slightly larger crowds. Orders get forgotten and food is not replenished quickly enough so you walk around seeing empty plates, pots and bread trays.
With the promotion for Foot Reflexology on at its in-house SPA, we rather enjoyed it and they were quite skillful.
The food court behind the hotel is quite good - the service is excellent and staff are friendly. WeyWey Stall is rather good and the owner is helpful.

the front desk was slow, 3 staffs but 2 attending to 1 customer. the place was clean n an european kind of style. anyway the breakfast could have done better, alot, end up my friend n i ended having porridge n egg. the room was spacious but not very clean. we found some used matachsticks n dirt around the sleeping area. i was recommended by my friend saying how great this place is n the spa service is good. oh great, my 2 friends had a better luck so their spa ended up not bad, however they rather dont do here. while i had a what-a-day luck, my spa ended in an hr, so i endedup waiting for my friends outside. the manager saw me sitting outside and came to me, so i just tell him everything. he was apologtic and offer me a foot spa and promise to get another staff to do it. But no, turn out the same lady and well 30min, becomes 10min. then i went back to the counter, joined with friends, we ended up saw a number of guests complaint about the spa service and most rejected to pay and walk off. For me, i paid what i feel i should so the manager offer 50% of my spa package. Lastly, their massuer are not well trained and their spa is newly established so out of so many different kind of spa package they only can offer 1. sigh

I went with 3 other friends and upon arrival, our rooms(we requested for adjoining or at least on the same floor with twin beds) were not ready so we went to the nearest & (supposedly)biggest shopping mall in Batam - Nagoya Hill. We went back to the hotel around 3 pm and were given rooms on the same floor but not next to each other & with queen beds(which are not that big)! The toiletries in the bathroom were not standardised. The room that I got only had 1 toothbrush but with 2 glasses but the room that my 2 other friends got had the opposite! (i.e. 2 toothbrushes with 1 glass). Also our mini bars were locked when we came in. However after we came back from our 4 hr spa, the mini bar in my friends' room had been unlocked! Clearly someone had came in even though they hung a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door.
The spa in the hotel was overall value for money. The rooms were clean & looked quite new. The 4 hr spa that we went for cost about SGD 66. However be warned that the therapists are not very professional as they tend to chit chat with each other throughout the session. I will only stay at the hotel again just for the spa. Otherwise, it might be more worthwhile staying at Holiday Inn or Batam View Resort.

A different setting for a hotel. Gives the feeling of like going into a cruise ship. Rooms are ok, relatively clean though a bit small and no bath tub. I was there in late Oct 2008 but I can see signs of wear and tear. Unless they keep up it will not be well maintained. When I checked in at 1pm they said rooms were not ready .... say 2pm come back. So I walked to the DC mall (though there was nothing to see) about 20 min walk and back about 230 then they tell me still not ready ask me to come back at 3pm. When I go at 3pm they still say its not ready. Got fed up and when to town until 6pm.

Yes like other reviewers, I agree the place has noise problem ... from the disco. I stayed at the higher floors so I dont have problems with the sound from the disco itself but motorbikes are ferrying "girls" (i think they are prostitutes or escorts or some local girl trying to hook up someone). So the motorocycle sound woke me up several times. So I did not like it.

The breakfast inlucded was not too bad. Tried their alacarte also ... okay.

Transport is convenient.. just ask the desk to take care for you.. typical rates in batam to city/Nagoya/MEgamall... say btwn 40-80K rupiah. There is a free shuttle service to go to megamall so take that from the hotel but be early cost seats are limited.

I stayed a few nights at the hotel because of a trade show. It is a brand new hotel right next to the brand new Harbour Bay ferry terminal (previously a workers’ ferry terminal at Batu Ampar). Transportation is very convenient but I did not go shopping.

The hotel has a grand entrance but service was average, there was not even a bell-boy to open the door or handle luggage. Reception was OK, no welcome drinks or instructions on location, breakfast, pool, etc. The rooms are very new and quite big but bathrooms are starting to show signs of poor maintenance. Good amenities like tea making, LCD-TV, hair-dryer and other facilities in room, but no bath tub for standard room, only walk in shower. Outdoor swimming pool is fair size on level 3 but I did not use it.

Here comes the fright:- a huge disco is part of hotel annex with entrance via the hotel. So you may find some sleazy characters in the hotel foyer sitting around at late night. Unfortunately, my bedroom was near the disco end of the hotel on level 7 and the noise permeated through the floor. I had a sleepless first night as the disco did not finish until about 4am! I promptly moved room the next day but reception seems to be keen in selling rooms at disco end of building (I had to threaten to move across the road to Novotel to get room change). I will only use this hotel again if I can get the quieter rooms at far end of hotel from disco.

Food in the hotel café was bland but buffets were reasonable choice for the price. However, the good old Golden Prawn Chinese restaurant near Jodo still serves excellent sea food in Batam. It is worth the while to book hotel taxi for a return trip to sample the best seafood in town at a restaurant sitting on stilts about the sea. It is not cheaper than hotel food but it is top quality eating!

  • Liked — New hotel near to ferry terminal
  • Disliked — noisy and sleazy disco attached to hotel

this hotel is among the newer hotels in batam and the nearest to the harbourbay ferry terminal....this year ive only been to batam twice..so decided to try a new hotel..previously stayed at Holiday inn....well here are my observation...

for those who wants a good and cheap hotel, this one might be for u...i stayed at a junior suite, rm 633..got a view of the town...i might not want to stay here in this room cause the view is not relly impressive as i can c the generators and all....i might ask one for a pool view next time...oops did i forget to mention that this hotel is build in exact replica of a cruise ship...exterior and interior is grand....so my junior suite cost me $151....it has a bedroom and a living room....toilet in here has theopen concept...glass window but for those who needs privacy, there is a curtain to cover up the glass window....i think only junior and palace suite has a bathtub...the executive and standard has none....

room service not much choice...and rather expensive...for those who have guys along in the group, try the hawker food outside the hotel..my husband bought the nasi goreng, fried rice..its nice and spicy....and so far so good..no diarohhea...and cheap..less than $3....and the the hawker by the roadside are open late..my hubby went down at 2 am and they are still open...

lots of cable channel even sg channel...suria,channel 8 and cannel 5 among of em...

security is good...to get to ure room,u have to slide ure card key into the elevator slot..and u can only go to ure level...cant press other level....so if ure in wz other patron, they have to slide theirs too...

staff is friendly and patient...as i book straight at the hotel and i ask to c the rooms b4 i decide which one i would like..and their service is always wz a smile...
down side is the housekeeping...i had to ask em to vacuum then they vacuum my room...if not they juz make the bed and the toilet and clear the bin....thats all.....

swimming pool is large enught to do lapse....
this hotel is among those few hotel that has a jacuzzi and a cold pool bside it...so ive tried the 'bone' therapy...dip in the jacuzzi and then the cold pool...refreshing...
gym is also impressive...
one can enjoy the gym while checking the pool view at the same time...
oh yes...this hotel also loan out the baby board so they can play wz the water safely...

did not has the chance to try the spa..but as i have not had enugh of the hotel..ill be going end of aug...b4 fasting mth starts.....so ill update here agaain...

all in all...

value for money...
