Unfortunately I have had to stay at this so called Beach Resort because of work as the nearest decent Hotel Sheraton or Shangri La is over 2 hrs drive to Surabaya.
First impressions are that this may be a nice place to stay staff seemed nice although English is limited as its set in the remote coastal part of East Java and is situated within a Fundemetalist Muslim area. In saying that there is no Bar or Alchohol they do not have a swimming pool because the local elders cannot have men & women swimming together. An attempt at making a pool had been started and was halted at the foundations this is what you look out over every morning started and never completed building work and beach huts falling into the sea. Skull & Crossbone signs warning you of the danger, a great vista!. No beach just rocks and a small bit of pebbly beach covered in rubbish plastic wrappers etc and the occasional water monitor (1-2M long Lizard). After being shown to my room it was plain to see that the building work was sub standard ill fitting patio doors that defeated the wall mounted A/C as there was a 2" gap at all times to the elements.Mosquitos and ants everywhere cats screaming and fighting outside and terrible loud piped music that you can hear over your dated TV that has 1 western Channel CNN at least you can stay in touch with the other world.Cleanliness of the rooms leaves a lot to be desired no plug in sink and the smell of other toilets back up into yours especially at night when rooms are occupied. Some days there is low presure Hot Water some Days only Low Pressure Cold water The beds are not of a very high standard and the pilows of an even lower standard the cheapest of bed linen. When asked if I could have 2 extra pillows they wanted to rent them at approx $1.00 a night each. The one good thing is that when the piped music is off and the cats have stopped fighting it is very quiet with only the sound of the waves lapping on the shore. The food is basic cafe class and priced accordingly only western dishes a couple of pasta and a chicken dish all the rest is Indonesian basic fare. Unless your are Indonesian stay away from breakfast go to a 7-11 equivilant and grab a packet of cookies. Communal Margarine and Jam dishes cleaned last year maybe. I wish i could find something good to say about this place but I cannot even the laundry is sub standard what they use to Iron shirts I do not know. At over $100 a night it is the most overpriced place for what you get I have ever stayed in around the world that includes parts of West Africa and Yemen and the Middle East. Please do not pay any attention to the brochures or website its all a front this establishment owned jointly by the Police & Government has a monopoly yes but people have a choice. Not to be recommended for tourists thats for sure go to Bali or other Indonesian destinations and get a lot lot more for your $. We have a Tennis court I was told only to find it has no net is overgrown with weeds and its where groundsmen lie down to rest. Sorry I have to warn you and I would prefer it if there was anything good to say about the place.
