Description: "Rawon Setan" is a place that many locals call it "durung nang suroboyo nek durung mangan rawon setan" or in English means (not translation) "you can't say you were already travelling around surabaya if you didn't eat rawon setan there". The name of the owner is Endang. You may find the other rawon setan with different owner arround Indonesia, but the original one is here in Embong Malang street. The name 'setan' or devil is given in many different reasons. One say it is because the restaurant only open from 23pm, while the other one say it is because when you eat this rawon along with its chilli your stomach will be "kesetanan" (the translate of 'kesetanan' is possessed by the devil, but in this case, the meaning is suffering from hot spices). Many information are provide now in internet, and even the recent president of Indonesia have already invite the owner of this restaurant to make a serving in 'Istana Negara' along with other unique Indonesian's culinary when celebrated an independence day of Indonesia.

Popular spot that serves one of the best Rawon (Black soup) that I have tasted. You can order your rice separately with a bowl of rawon soup or all added to your rice plate. The rice dish goes well with the side condiments like 'tempe' (fermented soyabean), bergedil (mashed spiced potato cutlet), telor asin (salted egg), krupuk (cracker) and sambal (hot chilli sauce). If you can't stand hot and spicy (like me), better order the soup in a separate bowl. Even though its pricy, the crowd is always there.

one of the best rawon i ever tasted over my life. The salted egg is the most adorable one, their spices are extremely beautiful melted in that soup. But it's still pricey however it's still ok for one of the most delicious food in Surabaya
