“Frustrating”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2012

First, the good news: the location is superb, the rooms are beautiful and the massage was great.
I'm not really a picky traveler, but all the rest was really disappointing.
The whole staff had that "fake-for-tourists" approach, always smiling but lacking real care. We asked for a wake up call at 4am since we were going to Borobudur, but the guy waked us up at 1am by mistake. The staff at the restaurant, also not good. The food was terrible and expensive.
When we asked for the manager to complain (actually the first time in my life that I did it), they kept trying to change the subject.
Really frustrating experience in our otherwise great honeymoon.

Dear Teo M,

Thank you for your comments about your stay at MesaStila in September 2011 - then Losari Spa Retreat & Coffee Plantation. We appreciate your positive message about the rooms, the beautiful surroundings and spa services. We are truly sorry that you found some matters to be of concern, especially on your honeymoon. We have reviewed all your comments with our entire team.

As we have rebranded to MesaStila, we have also developed our services and product offerings. In addition we have expanded on the principle of Tulus - Bahasa-Indonesian to mean “from the heart”. We believe that our team is truly inspired by offering excellence in their service and smiles that are reflective of their personal honor and value system in Java.

Undoubtedly it was an oversight on the team member that called you at 1am, instead of 4am. With this and any other mistakes in our property with the operation as a whole, we continue to put systems into place to ensure that everything we do offers efficiency, value and consistency.

Certainly our manager on duty should have been more accommodating to your concerns about the food quality and price, and we have reviewed this matter again with our management team. As we have improved our product under our new MesaStila brand, we have recently undergone an entire food and beverage upgrade - training, equipment and services. We have also expanded our menu and reviewed our pricing to ensure that value for money is a key component of the dining experience at MesaStila.

Yours sincerely

The MesaStila Management Team

I was invited to stay in for a night last week, and stayed in 2-bedroom plantation villa, I love the ambience of the resort. The resort is 500m from the main busy road, but once you've reached the resort than you'll find a peaceful & warm surroundings. The Reflexiology labyrinth & The Hammam steam bath are the must to try !!!

This is my second visit to Losari Spa Retreat, now renamed MesaStila and the magic has not faded one little bit.

The staff warmly welcomed me back, remembered me by name and I was made to feel valued.

Beyond the spectacular views, healthy nutritious food and beverages, beyond the very comfortable, traditional rooms, a genuine air of caring, pervades each face and gesture from the staff. Nothing is too much trouble.

If you are looking for something completely different from the run-of-the-mill hotel or accommodation, then this place will surely please.

Room Tip: They are all good!! Relocated and rebuilt in the original Javanese style, from teak wood, each has i...

This was the first stop to our honeymoon. We spent 6 days 5 nights here on the indulgence package and can I say how fab that was.

All our meals were included and also we had a daily treatment at the spa which was amazing!!!! The first day we had a scub at the hamman and then a massage.

We were so full, we felt as though we were constantly eating. We didnt even have the mid morning and mid afternoon snack and both my husband I were too full we had to poltely decline which is very rare. the only thing i would say is after 6 days you kind of get bored of the menu although the food really was sensational.

we got upgraded and our villa was amazing!!!! I especially loved the bath!!!!.

In the morning we joined in their activities - yoga and also the pencat silak whcih i loved.

The only thing i would change if i could was the weather, i think we only had 1 day where it didnt rain the afternoon.

We also got a special cake made for us as a present for our honeymoon.

They kept telling us the food was healthy and it was ok to eat more but even if with our greedy guts the food was wayyyy too much.

I thought it was fantastic - from the meet and greet at the airport to the dropping us off. The car ride is quite a long way so be prepared but they had snacks in the car ready for us.

We had so many fresh fruit juices, some of course were better than others.

All in all a good stay, just wished the weather was better.

Dear Teresa P,

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at MesaStila, our entire team truly appreciates your wonderful comments!

With regard to your “food boredom” J ; our kitchen team have been working hard on a new menu, which was introduced on May 14th. The new menu has been enormously applauded by many of our guests and we hope that the extensive array of food options, now available, will ensure long stay guests never feel that there is not something else on the menu to try!

Wishing you happy days ahead!!

Imagine leaving the busy airport and heading up into the hills, knowing that at the end of the road you will find the Java of your imagination. MesaStila is that spot, from the 19th century plantation house to your own perfect villa - spacious and cool with an ornately carved high ceiling and a verandah overlooking the green valley below. Imagine: waking to the sunrise on the jungle greenery and air filled with birdsong. A pretty walk to the open-air pavilion for an hour of guided yoga. A lovely breakfast and a walking tour of the coffee plantation. Delicious home-made bread for a club sandwich, and then a nap on your private verandah to the gently swelling and ebbing sounds of the call to prayer. Imagine, just imagine. The best thing is that it is not just your imagination; it is very real, and in fact better than what we could have imagined. Great villa, great food, great staff, great Hammam and spa services. Lovely grounds and gardens, a reflexi labyrinth (you will have to go to know...), and a view that includes 8 volcanoes on a clear day. Imagine really getting away from it all, and discovering you have arrived at a small slice of heaven.

Room Tip: No risk of a bad room as they are all lovely.

Kinda tricky to find (as the entrance does not say "Losari") which all the guide books mention but once there we were professionally and nicely welcomed, very politely informed of the rules (no h/ps etc) all whilst being escorted to a super outdoor sala restaurant, with terrific views of Javanese volcanoes and cloud shrouded forests.

The food was really very good, and of course priced accordingly, but the whole experience was worth the journey (from Semarang not Jogja).

Would love to stay for a day or two (when I win the lottery) but for now lunch was a great taster of this very stylish resort.
