“Ice cream sellers rock - or why your frontline staff make or break an attraction”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2013

We paid IDR 20,000+ per person to get into Ciater hot springs. Once in, we discovered that we needed to pay once again to get into various sections of the complex. Having just paid to get into Tangkuban Perahu, we were experiencing an extreme aversion to being milked for more money so we decided to hang out at the first pool we came to. There was this friendly, chatty guy in a yellow jacket who talked to us about the springs and the healing properties of the water. In the centre of the pool there was an inner ring of stone that could be sat on, and he described how the water outside the inner rim was better for kids, and inside was really hot, and how we should get used to the outer water for 10min before trying the inner pool. The oldies I was with loved it. He kept up the patter and general chattiness, playfully splashing the kids (who were romping around in their swimsuits). My general reserve thawed in the face of his determined cheeriness. As we chatted, a disabled lady came along with minder. He helped her down the slippery steps and into the inner ring, where she sat down for a long session. He even helped her out. She was hefty and it was hard work - I was especially surprised to discover later he was not a tour guide but a "mere" ice cream seller. We continued on to find a complex of connecting pools... sure it was volcanic heated water, but it just reminded me of a hotel pool - lots of people around. I much preferred the modest pool we spent most of our time in. And of course, the Bandung weather - we heard a crack of lightning, got some large splashes of rain and then the rain came bucketing down. Locals started moving out of the area at the first crack. Umbrella renters were nearby to hold the umbrella for you. So we didn't explore the whole thing. Based on what I saw (it looked like there was something called 4D and other water park type things) I would say it was disappointing if not for the ice cream sellers!

“Just a few pools with hot water!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

After our visit to the Kawah Putih and Patengan Lake (Situ Patengan), our driver brought us to this place. We've been there in June on a warm weekday, so not a lot of people for a change. We seemed to be the only tourist at that time. There's nothing to see, 2 pools filled with hot spring water, it all looks very worn. Keep in mind that they are asking an entrance fee.

“Nice Hot Spring, but too crowded.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Our family went for bathing in this nice natural hot spring in Ciater last weekend. We used to soaked in the Sari Ater Hot Spring called Mayangsari Pool but the price went up at Rp.40,000 per person not incl the entrance fee on the website. So when we're about to arrive at Ciater there was a billboard advertised that it is only Rp.35,000 per person incl entrance fee at Ciater Spa Resort. That's interesting, so we went in to Kiara Hot Spring Pool which is larger than Mayangsari. Apparently The entrance fee was charged Rp.16,000/car and the admission to the Kiara Hot Spring Pool was charged at Rp.30,000 per person. There is a pool bar, where we can order snacks or drinks. The temperature was quite the same as in Mayangsari I think. Basically we do enjoy bathing inside this natural hot spring.

It's still in the morning around 8 am, there was only 1 family enjoying the big pool, thus we enjoy the tranquility until suddenly the management turned up the tape and played many evergreen songs, which ruined the peace and quiet while soaking inside the hot spring. Not long after that other visitors in big groups started to came in. So we ended our bathing time. The downside is there was no proper bathroom to clean up coz there are only open air and shared bathroom available, it is the same as in Mayangsari Pool. Toilets are enough and quite clean. We just realized that Ciater Spa Resort is connecting to the Sari Ater area which located at the upper ground. Will we coming back? maybe.

“disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

to visit this place after kawah domas really does not serve any purpose. after dipping in the hot springs a while ago for free, you do not feel like doing it again. therefore it is a waste of time if you come for the hot springs only. moreover there is a small admission fee of rp50,000.
