“Superb stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2012 via mobile

We stayed at the superior rooms for 2 nites n we were truly satisfied with the hotel's service and accommodation. This hotel is very cosy with nice surroundings and awesome spa. Enjoyed the traditional massage very much. From this hotel we juz walked for 10 minutes then we reached the dago plaza, dse factory outlet n few fast food restaurant. Walked further up we reached jalan dago where kartika sari n around 10 fo's are located next to each other. Definitely a hotel worth staying!

Overall, this a decent place to stay at. The ambience is warm, cosy and a throw-back to a bygone era. The building is an authentic Dutch colonial residence, and the pictures inside serve to emphasise it's heritage.

The staff members are very pleasant and helpful. They even recommended food stalls to visit, which was very nice of them.

Location wise, the hotel is nearby the factory outlets at Jl Dago. It's a very short taxi ride, but I think the distance is about a 15-20 minute walk. There are plenty of food stalls nearby, and a convenience store and small shopping complex.

The rooms are comfortable. I stayed in the deluxe room, which was well equipped with all the necessary amenities i.e. cable TV, AC, hot water etc. However, the bathroom was a bit run-down, while the lighting in the room was rather gloomy.

All in all, a nice stay, though 450,000 rp for the deluxe room was a bit on the pricey side, I feel.

Room Tip: There are 3 floor, and no lifts, so if you're unable to climb stairs due to health reasons, best...

This hotel is located very close to shops, eateries and cafes. The staff are friendly and prices good. The breakfast was tasty enough, but very little choice. Though it's close to a busy part of Bandung, it's very quiet. Ask for a room at the back, though. For a business traveller, the only disadvantage is that there is no wifi in the rooms (although there is in the cafe - but very, very slow).
On the last morning we had to leave at 4.30, so the hotel brought a hot breakfast and coffee to our room - this was excellent service!

Went to Bandung for a holiday and stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. I managed to get some discounts for the Superior Room at Rp340,000 per night. (inclusive of breakfast & evening tea/coffee/ice lemon tea coupon daily)

Please note: to book the room you will need to put a 50% deposit first. There is a Rp15,000 bank charges which will be deducted from the amount you deposited when you transfer the money to them. So when you check out to pay your bill the deposit stated in the bill will be Rp15,000 less.

The room is cosy & clean with an attached toilet. It has an aircon, TV with many channels, coffee/tea maker but no hair dryer. The hotel staff are all warm, friendly and helpful. I am have to check out early in the morning at 4.30am and the staff helped book the taxi to the airport and also helped arrange for me to have my breakfast at 4am in the room! Excellent service!!

There are foodstalls, restaurants and a minimart nearby. You can also walk to Simpang Raya restaurant on Jl Dago which is less than 10 mins walk. You will pass Dunkin Donuts and KFC.

DSE FO outlet is about 10-15 mins walk. From DSE FO, Kartika Sari Outlet is 5 mins walk on Jl Dago. From Kartika Sari it will take you another 10 mins walk before reaching Glamour FO and the other FOs on Jl Dago. Alternatively you can also take the Angkutan which is everywhere.

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The food in the cafe is good too! There is also a Spa in the hotel which you can have a full body massage for Rp109,000 only!

1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2009

Arrived Bandung quite late (11 pm) I was not in the best of mood nor I am willing to accept less of a service.

Flaws

Reception:
I booked a Priangan room, but they told me that the room is taken. They gave me a Junior Suite which they said is in the same room category. I checked out the room and asked if there is any other room available but they said it was full. Fine. I was tired and not looking forward to lengthy arguments.

Junior Suite:
Does not deserve to be called junior suite at all. I reserved Priangan room for the sake of having a room with a colonial decor/ambiance (high ceiling, etc). The so called junior suite is not different than any other deluxe room in other hotel with similar price tag.

Bath:
Very odd layout with diagonal bath (?) which does not serve any aesthetic purpose (?) with a sand filled alcove above the bath spout. Shower head mounted on the side of the bath which make it impossible for one to have a shower (I would not take a bath in that tub). There was no hot water running! By then it was almost midnight so I decided to let it go and sleep. They fix the hot water tho the next morning, after 3 calls made.

Basin:
Hot water was ok here but the basin down light was dead. I asked them to fix it and when they checked on it they reply was only "Oh but there is sufficient light from recessed light above the tub no?"
It was unacceptable. Had them to replace the dead light bulb.

Bed:
Quite comfortable if not for the huge AC unit blowing straight to my face. Had to turned it of because it is even impossible to control the fins.

Minibar:
Did not touch it. Powerpoint socket was too scary, it sparks.

TV:
Old and comes with a broken remote.

Telephone:
Oddly place (next to TV) not on bed side table.

Breakfast:
Choices of toast, omelette and Indonesian food breakfast. Mediocre. Orange juice - no wait, it was orange syrup - way too sweet.

Asked the reception the next morning (different receptionist with better service - of course) if I can move to another room, so they showed me Pitaloka and Boscha. Which has way better room size, and way better bathroom (with working shower!) and it comes with a cheaper rate! I really can not comprehend how do they apply the rates in comparison with what the rooms has to offer.

By then I was too disappointed and decided to checked out.

Fab:
- Morning reception staff
- My bell boy (lug my stuff through all that flight of stairs)
- The hotel architecture
- Location
- Price

I would not want to stay in this hotel again. Ever.

We booked the two superior rooms for 3 adults & 2 kids. The room was comfortable & clean.

We stayed at the first floor next to the spa, so it was very convenient for us as we can go for a massage after a day of "touring" the outlets:) The service was okay as it was relatively cheap.

The room came with free buffet breakfast. However, there were only limited choices. There are a few restaurants around the vicinity offering local cuisine & one western restaurant.

It is located on the less busy part of Bandung. So in my opinion, it is good for families with small children or those who like a quiet place.

But, it is not very near to the factory outlets. We had trouble walking at night while pushing the stroller as the roads are not in a very good condition & not well-lighted.

Overall, the place is okay & the staff are very friendly and helpful. My only problem was the toilet was not well cleaned. And on our last day, it smells really bad.

The Hotel Bumi Sawunggaling is located in a leafy neighbourhood within walking distance of many shops and restaurants.

The hotel is located in a building built for a lecturer at Bandung's most prestigious university in 1920. After World War Two it was converted in a student dormitory, before becoming a hotel in 1998.

The building retains many of its original features, like beautiful stained glass and 12ft high ceilings. Our deluxe room combined many of these original features with the modern comforts you would expect in a mid-range boutique hotel.

The food in the hotel's DaCosta cafe was good and extremely cheap, even by Indonesian standards.

Overall, this hotel is the best choice in for those looking for an experience that is quintessentially Bandung and also great value.
