“Overpriced and dirty”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

My experience of Hotel Serena Bandung is perhaps not as bad as some of the recent reviews posted here but is still not brillant either. I stayed here for 2 nights in June 2013 and it's proximity to the railway station at about 200 metres away was the reason why I booked it so as to avoid having to deal with transport from the bicycle rickshaws. The 2010 edition of the Loely Planet also flagged Serena as a decent hotel for the money. I had booked a deluxe double room through booking.com two months previously and guaranteed it by credit card. On checking in I was given some story from a very young guy on reception that the price of their rooms has gone up since I made my booking and that I would have pay more than the price on my confirmation. I reckon this was a scam as they were looking for about €40 more. In the end after asking reception guy to phone the hotel manager it was not pursued anymore.
The room was on the second floor with a view of a derelict half finished building. The first thing I got on entering the room was the smell of the dirty toilet which never went from the room. The shower had no screen or curtain so water went everywhere. No hot water in the mornings. Overall the bathroom needed a complete refurbishment.
The bed was comfortable although the linen and pillows were old and worn with an off-white colour. The TV picture was flickery. The aircon was good but was loud and sounded like a jet engine for about 10 minutes or so after starting up. It also used to blow out dirt into the room every so often that looked very like bird droppings.
Wifi was only available in the breakfast room on the ground floor. Breakfast was included in the room rate, but it wasn't spectacular. Just the usual collection of rice, noodles, fried chicken, fruit platter and disgusting coffee. No juices offered you had to pay for them in bottles if you wanted.
Overall just passable, but way overpriced for a mid-range hotel in Indonesia.

Because of on peek season on bandung and searching a quite good hotels is almost full all, because of we come on to bandung late time ...

When we go in to room, opening cupboard is bad smell and when we use the wastafel its clogging ... uuh! ...

No water jog and in my opinion this hotel isn't good enough with the price is too expensive, just spend more Rp. 100.000 you may get more better than this hotel ... twice quality ..

breakfast isn't good enough ...

Ah ... we are not going back to this hotel again..

Room Tip: Please find out the other hotel than this ..

i stay in double bed room, its a quite small but decent for bussiness trip, i'm not recommended for family, the location is quite strategic 'cause its across bandung train station and close to food stall around the hotel area. the problem is the hot shower didnt out when i shower in the morning, the food is ordinary, the service is quite decent. my final verdict is a very ordinary hotel

Room Tip: a lot of room type, Choose wisely

From the outside it looks like this hotel may have some potential...... sadly no. We stayed here for one night as part of an Intrepid tour, so had expected better. The bathroom is an open wet room, see photos. Disgustingly filthy, mouldy and smelt of bad drains! We were given two grotty greying towels, which quite fankly I did not want to touch, let alone dry myself with! There was only one plug socket to charge cameras/phones etc, hidden in a cupboard.

We were also unlucky to have a room at the top of the corridor directly down from the main entrance. After seeing the room and the smell, we asked to change and were told that all the other standard rooms were booked out. I then had the pleasure of enjoying loud music coming from a bar outside of the bedroom window!

I would not recommend staying here!

We went there for a night on an Intrepid tour. The sheets were dirty greyish white, as were the towels. The toilet was black under the rim. The room smelt. There was no light to read by, just a weak centrally- hanging low wattage bulb.
Some one else along the corridor had an infestation of cockroaches which were breeding in the bedside cupboard. One of the dirtiest hotels I have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: The best room would be in another hotel.
