“Not bad for a weekend getaway”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2014

Tangkuban Perahu is a nice little spot to visit if you're on a weekend getaway to Bandung. The site itself isn't too impressive if you've already visited the likes of Indonesia's other volcanic sites. Come here for an hour or so and walk around. Yeah, this is Indonesia, so there are plenty of touts around the site. Also, if you've already seen a lot of geological sites in Indonesia already, don't even bother coming if there's terrible traffic. There's usually terrible traffic on long weekends.

“See the crater in front of your eyes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2014

Getting so close to the volcano is a great experience. You can see the beautiful scenic view and smell the sulfur. Along the way to the crater you can enjoy the panoramic with pine trees along the both sides of the road.

“Lazy man's volcano”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

An hour's drive from Bandung (relatively light traffic we were told). You can drive right up to the crater. I was disappointed by the lack of trekking available, and you can't get near the crater right now because of the poisonous gasses (cool)...but it's a beautiful sight nonetheless. You can pay a guide to hike down to the domas crater (guide is mandatory, cost was Rp300,000) where you can get a lot closer to some active sulphur pool, dip your feet, get a weird leg massage from your guide (in an effort to peddle some mud... But hey, respect to the salesman!). It's something different to do if you're in bandung, but don't go expecting mt broom or rinjani.

“Beware of those who follow you down”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014

Was initiallly a very excited trip as first time so near to a volcano! Yet a very unsafe place whereby the so called authorised guide brought along at least 5 more helpers to accompany us down. Once they pulled out their stuff to sell us at horrific prices, we need to purchase otherwise I forsee tough time getting up to the entrance, they had evil grin on their face. Such a wonderful place yet very much let down by these tricksters left an unforgettable and poor image of this place for both my wife and me.
